Looking for a Place to Buy and Sell Your Lulu?

This is a follow up to my story about the app developers creating a lululemon buy, sell, trade group on Facebook to create a ready-made market and pool of listings for their new app. The developers ended up leaving the group they created to concentrate on other brands. They turned admin duties over to a new team who came from the existing lululemon Facebook BST community. Since I stuck my nose into the story I signed on to help the new team, along with fellow blogger lulumum, and some experienced admins and BSTers from other lululemon chat and selling groups. We are migrating the original group into a new location and we also have an associated chat page to help integrate the new BSTers into the wider lululemon community. I've been screening quite a few profiles for the past week or so and the group is overwhelmingly comprised of US members, which is unusual for the lululemon Facebook selling groups (though there are a growing number of Canadians, who are very welcome). There are also a ton of fitness professionals in it, who have some very nice pieces they've offered up for sale. I've sold two pieces in two days (and many other people have told me they have had a lot of success selling quickly in this group) so I am excited for this new board.

To whet your appetite, is an example of a goodie from over the weekend::

Sales are only allowed using PayPal as goods to offer maximum protections to both buyer and seller. If you are looking to sell your lululemon or pick up some nice deals, definitely think about joining the group.

Sorry if my question is silly...not too familiar with selling off Facebook, but how are buyers and sellers kept "honest"? With eBay you can file a claim. Can money be refunded on the Facebook page if things don't go the way they are supposed to??

So, my lulu is pretty well loved by the time I'm done with it. In fact, I only have 3 CRBs that I really don't go to anymore, but I don't think it will be worth my time to try to sell. Question though: would it hurt the brand if it starts popping up at Goodwills?

You file a claim through PayPal, the same as eBay. And you let the admins of the group know what the problem was and problem buyers and sellers are removed from the group.

what does "using PayPal as goods" mean? I feel not so bright having to ask.

Sorry my question is off topic but could someone tell me what the difference is between the seek the heat crop and the newly uploaded cool to street pant? They look identical but I could be missing something? Thank you!

Awesome! I just submitted a request to join the group. =)

@ anon 1:41 pm - you can use PayPal to pay as "gifts" which means no fees are taken out, but if you use that way to pay you cannot make any claims if the transaction goes awry. I.e., if you don't get the item or it's not as described. When you pay as "goods" there is a 4% fee taken out of the amount but there are buyer protections.

Love this!!!! I read your original post and have been following. I am an American and my items don't sell in the mostly Canadian groups. I saw some of the admins are names I am familiar with - super excited they are in charge of the group now along with you!!!!

I put in a request to join quite a while ago but still no addition. Hoping to get added soon!

@Anon 1:34PM: LLL gear is regularly found in thrift stores and consignment stores. I have a friend who lives near a Value Village (thrift). As it is not far from an affluent area, those locals who I don't care to resell their LLL simply donate it. My friend won't pay LLL prices and she gets a lot of stuff in great condition. My friend is also always on the look out for higher end jeans.

I have what is probably a stupid question but I haven't really used PayPal before....any purchase off of eBay I used a credit card. Does PayPal only let u register certain types of credit cards? I tried once with my check card (MasterCard connected to my bank account)and it wouldn't let me register and that is really the only "credit" card I like to use. Does anyone know what types of cards it accepts and does that mean I can't list anything for sale. And if u do sell something with PayPal does the money then go to the credit card u have on file with PayPal? Sorry I am such a novice!!

Anon 9:46, I wonder if it wouldn't let you use your Mastercard because it is a debit card? Not sure. I have an Amex connected to Paypal and it works fine. You can post something for sale as long as you have Paypal, I don't think a cc connected to it is required. When I sell something on one of the Lulu FB sites, I invoice the person as goods and the money then comes into my Paypal account balance, not credited to my Amex. You can get a Paypal debit card for cash withdrawal, transfer, or use as any other card. Sadly the money doesn't stay in my Paypal account for very long because I am always so drawn to what people are selling on those sites, it just goes right back out. =)

Miranda thanks so much. Yes it was a debit card. So I could connect an Amex to it but that doesn't mean I have to actually use it for selling at all it sounds like. Money goes into a PayPal that I can use elsewhere. That makes sense. I have been using posh for ease of use but I really don't like charging 100 for something when I really only need 80 etc. feel bad marking up so much but what can u do. I hope I can figure this PayPal thing out! Does it require anything else?

9:46 I have my debit credit card linked to paypal and it works. I don't use it though.

I am tempted to check this out as I have LLL gear that I started Purchasing since 2010. I have not sold or gotten rid of any of it and have a lot of stuff with the tags on still. I really don't wear my WUC much. I mainly wear some of the run tights and crops and the high impact bras like the tata tamer and the stuff your bra. I tried selling some of my lulu at a few consignment stores here in NYC and most said they would not take it unless it had tags.

I belong to a couple different Lulu FB sites and I have had really good luck both buying and selling so far. You start to notice a difference between the groups based on what you are selling/ buying. One of them I belong to seems much more focused on "unicorns" and over retail is allowed. Those beachscape pants, for example, would sell there for 200+. Another site I belong to seems to be a lot of gals just looking for the best prices. I recommend trying several, but make sure you don't get the rules of each confused! The admins are on it. I've been reprimanded and have seen others kicked out many times.

I don't want to sound out of it but I do not have a Facebook account nor ever had interest in Facebook, is that the only way you can sign up with this group??
I sell and buy my LLL items on Ebay. I prefer older pieces that are hard to find on Ebay.

@ anon 5:44 pm - Yeah, another pair of Beachscape pants went up for sale for over $200 a couple of days later on our site. Lol on rules and being stringent, we're having ad admin discussion right now over some rules and how stringent we want to be/need to be on certain things. My personal opinion is at the end of the day you want to get buyers together with sellers and have it be a smooth process for all involved with no one being ripped off. At this point I don't see the value added on policing certain behavior but we're pretty new and a lot of the boards have been running for a few years so they're probably tired of mediating disputes so have developed more of a zero tolerance attitude.

@ anon 6:21 pm - yes you need to be on facebook to participate in the group.

Do you know about some Europe based trading group? I think lulu is not such a thing here as it is in US and Canada. Well even in Australia the uploads are much more generous.. Or maybe it's just an illusion,) Or maybe it is the language - in Europe not everyone speaks english so it's not easy to trade with a lot of people?
