I am starting to develop a strong dislike of the new product photo styling/poses. I like to see two basic photos when I shop on line - a straight-on front view and a straight-on back view. A side view is a nice bonus but not required. This series of photos for the new Grain Ace Spot Running in the City Tank has none of these - it has a hunched over angled front shot, an angled back shot with an arm covering the back of the tank (hey, is that mesh on the high-sweat-area middle of my back? I think so) and a view of the armpit. Because I really care about the armpit of a tank. I really can't understand why lululemon thinks these are an improvement over the old photos:
Turn a little more towards me, honey.
?
Nice 'action' shot.
Who thought this looked good together? These two pieces have two completely different tones when it comes to style, I just don't see how you even consider mixing them. On the bright side, the jacket is styled nicely in the banner photo but lululemon doesn't mess around on the banners.

Agreed. Also, I don't love how they covered the top waistband of the crop with the shirt. Why not style it with a bra so we can see the waistband?
Although I agree most of the photos are not helpful, for me, the armpit one is on a tank for running. The seam in that area is bad for chafing and IMO LLL hasn't had many tanks good for longer distance running this year because of said seam :)
You forgot to add the pic of the jacket where she's got it pulled down on her waist. Lol! Ya, that tells me all I need to know about the jacket and it's look and/or features. NOT! Ridiculous. It's amateur hour over there lately. Not sure why, for a company this old, they haven't figured out a) what their customer wants and b) how to display their product on a website. It's just bad.
Do you think this change is because of your types of blogs that are showing actual real people wearing the photos have become so popular? Personally I prefer to see how it looks in the more casual photos now that aren't straight on with blaring light, I like to see them in movement shots too. That's not to say I don't think the model should have her arm covering half the tank in that one photo, as well they should keep the old style and have these too!
On another note I hope Wanderlust drops today online!! I've been patiently waiting...
@Ashley - I can see that. Lululemon is very good about not putting lumps in the seams right under the arms. I can honestly say I've never gotten chafing from any of my lululemon clothes except for non-seamless panties. I've run summer half marathons in Power Ys with a Ta Ta Tamer underneath and have never had chafing in that area. Though, the Running in the City tank does have a lot going on seam-wise with the multiple straps, transition to mesh, etc., so I can see wanting to see more detail in that area.
@ anon 8:19 am - I don't think so. I think they're trying to be quirky and different. The real people photos are helpful because the models are mostly one type of woman - very flat chested and not very curvy. Often the real people are styled just holding coffee cups, we very rarely get "action" photos but the clothes fit them snugger and they often pick coordinating pieces to really highlight the products.
The new photo style does not really show off features and the true fit anymore.. Models holding their arms behind their backs or so close to the sides that you can't make out where the top ends and the sleeves begin. The pattern is also really hard to differentiate from the cut. What was lululemon thinking with these new types of shots? Thought the models are supposed to show us the fit of the clothes, not the fitness of the models.. Jumping, hoping from side to side.. Doesn't help with buying decisions at all! I find the blog pictures from various stores and ambassadors a lot more useful when it comes to what real women look like in these things. Sigh!
