Tangential Topic: Shannon Wilson Launching Technical Cashmere Line Kit and Ace in the Fall

Shannon Wilson, wife of lululemon founder Chip Wilson, has a started a new apparel brand built around "technical cashmere" (is this similar to merino wool performance clothing?) called Kit and Ace. It's supposed to launch this fall. Her LinkedIn profile credits Shannon Wilson with creating the Groove Pant.

The text from the Kit and Ace LinkedIn site has this description:

Kit and Ace was founded in Gastown on the westcoast (or left coast) of Canada, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

What we do.
We took a look at the world and the people living in it and decided that we could make luxury fabrications and beautiful clothing – functional. So we took at stab at it and created this – Kit and Ace. Our focus is Technical Cashmere™. Cashmere that’s smarter than you know it to be.

So here.
We’re all busy and we all want clothing that works. We all like nice things – especially quality things that function. So we make clothing that does what we like. We design from an understanding that the world is moving fast and that our lives are trying to keep up. Kit and Ace is about time, value, and integrity. We have big plans for the future.

So you know.

Interesting. I'll be curious to see it.

(Thanks to Ms. A. for the heads up on this.)

Don't like the name. Everything seems to be "This & That" lately. Just this one, kit & ace, doesn't roll off the tongue too well. Curious to see how it all turns out

Thanks Ms. A and LLA for the heads up. Interesting. As for the name, it's probably a good name. If the clothes are great design/funtion/quality and nice/beautiful, then the name will be synonymous with something that is great, and it will take. It's certainly not "Scotch & Soda"

I don't have a problem with the name either. If the stuff has good design, good fit, good materials, and good quality then, with the lululemon legacy, I think it will sell. Lululemon knitwear typically sells very well and I hardly ever see it hit markdown.

Hmm is it coincidental that there are rumors that LLM might be taken over by another big brand/company, and now the founder's wife is starting her own label?

Even if the takeover is not true, is there a conflict of interest that Mrs Wilson is starting a company that directly competes with LLM? Just wondering.

Not sure how functional "tech" cashmere will be. I kind of baby my regular cashmere (hand wash or dry clean), and cheaper cashmere can pill. Will have to wait and see what they do to make it a low maintenance, easy care, non-pilling thing. If it's too expensive (which I think it may be) and not machine washable, I don't see it having broad market appeal. I don't hand wash fitness clothes, not even bathing suits.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't particularly feel like supporting this man's business. I felt bad enough buying LLL after his asinine theories and comments over the years, but by the time I knew much about Chip, I was already pretty invested in the brand (I started buying around 2006). I just can't see myself getting on board with his new company from principle. (I guess better late than never) :/
I also think that the name sounds very trendy, but I don't mind it. It's likely a shout out to Vancouver (Kit) and sport (Ace). At least that's my take.

wow i will be def checking this out love natural fabrics and if this lady is behind the older lulu designs which i suspect she is this could be like a new budding lulu???? Love the concept hopefully this will be a new brand for me to focus on and away from lulu since lulu has become boring and lack luster to me for quite some time the teenie bopers can have what lulu has become..... i don't really find too much i like anymore.

Haha... I cannot wait to check out the clothing line! I love cashmere but... Technical?

Also, who wrote that terrible copy?

LLL and Kit and Ace: it's not a conflict of interest at all. Do you think Pink Tartan (Kimberly Mimran) and Joe Fresh (Joe Mimran) is a conflict? Not at all, it's actually quite powerful.

As for not supporting "this man's" business. I wouldn't visit his mistakes on her; that's not fair. They are a couple and can surely influence each other, share opinions etc. But it's HER business. Now if he is an actual silent partner, that would be annoying. I kind of doubt he is: she's smart enough to know to separate herself from him on that side. I wouldn't be surprised if she does have a more practical, classical take and I will be interested to see what she does.

I think it's kind of naive to say he has nothing to do with Her business. After all, she was a part of His LLM business before too.

If I'm a LLM investor, I'll be pretty irritated that the Wilsons have a great business idea, access to cashmere "technology" that might translate into great profits for LLM, but choose not to make that part of LLM business, and instead, start off a new business and keep all the profits for themselves.

wow i really don't care how annoying he/she are/is. what counts is the product keep transgressions opinions in check how retarded to discount a once great product because of some things he said or even a diff of opinion seriously the pc police are at work here a dangerous president
against free thought/speech imo!!!!

@8:57....that's an interesting thought regarding Chip's responsibility to LLM as a majority shareholder vs. his new company. Huh.

I guess we'll have to wait and see! Does anyone here know whether there is any truth to rumors that LLL might be purchased by another activewear company? I've been reading that here and there, but you know...grain of salt until someone in the know can confirm or deny.

I feel kind of bad for Laurent. He's really got an uphill battle in front of him...but then I think about his salary and I feel less bad for him. ;)

Seriously? Anon @8:57pm^ It's a free country, they can open up a new business if they want to. And if investors get irritated, since god forbid they want to "keep all the profits to themselves", that's on them. If anything, investors are the ones leeching off THEIR profits. Hahaha so entitled, get creative and open up your own business.

Definitely it's a free country, and why should the Wilsons care about the LLM baby they created, when they had already ripped off investors and could use the proceeds to start a new business instead. Yes it happens all the time. They would not be the first, and nor would they be the last. They are just being entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, LLM faces takeover rumors, quality issues, customer loyalty decreasing. Perhaps it's smart of them to jump ship. Why bother to entertain and retain the legions of LLM fans who still love their products.

Awful name, logo, and copy...

Everything looks fine from a marketing perspective until you take a look at the "copy" on their facebook page.. taken straight from the about section: "integrity is not morality; a gangster can have integrity if he does what he says he will do. " ......gives me the chills..

Chip is about as loyal to LLL as he is to WestBeach. Once this trend is over, he will move on.
