Saw the Deep Zinfandel BB Forme at my local store yesterday. The fabric felt really slippery, like it has a high poly content. Reminded me of the fabric of the paisley WUP, which are 80-something % poly. The zippers are indeed a rose-gold color and just not my taste.

I did end up coming home with the Deep Zin/Winter Orchid stripe Power Y. The trim of this tank is the Deep Zin BB fabric! So cute! I couldn't help myself, even though I ordered the Raspberry stripe and solid Surge Power Ys, which should be arriving today. Will see which color(s) I like best.

Fabric content of the luon in my new tank is exactly the same as the luon Power Ys I bought earlier this year. I would say the new tank is a bit lower cut at the bust and longer than the old ones. but I still took the same size.

OT: Has anyone noticed that luon stains easily? Several of my tanks have come out of the wash permanently stained/discolored by sunscreen, makeup, or mud (I use my lulu outside a lot). I've always been able to wash that stuff out of other brands/fabrics in the past. I'm not going to walk on eggshells to avoid dirtying my lulu, but If someone has a detergent they would recommend, I'd really appreciate it! I'm using a natural 7th Generation detergent right now, which has always worked well for me in the past, but maybe not for luon?

i agree that the zinfandel color is perfect for fall and winter. I am thinking of getting the inspires in that color. zinfandel is perfect for any skin tone and goes well with split pea and a number of tops that I have. I can't wait to see it in person.
and here I thought I was done with LLL

@ anon 11:55 am - Just the opposite, luon/all lulu fabric release stains REALLY well. I've even got blood and chocolate out of my luon. I'll pretreat it with Spray N Wash. I used Tide on everything and have a front loader washer.

I've found lulu stuff discolors easily for some reason. One of my first purchases... Toothpaste crb... Ugh gorgeous tank and gorgeous color, discolored after the first wash from deodorant!!! I was devastated and no help when I called customer service :/ since then I've had bras, headbands, tanks with discolorations. Sucks because I changed my deodorant immediately after that happened with the first tank and the places that are stained didn't even come into contact with deodorant... A headband. This has only happened with lulu stuff. I've never seen this with anything else I own :(

@Anon, I have the same problem. I always end up getting makeup on mine since I wear my CRBs to work and am constantly wiping my glasses. I really need to get out of THAT habit. I use Tide sport to wash my Lulu, and I find that stains come out of luxtreme but not my luon. I'll be interested to hear what others say.

Totally OT, but what do you all think? Lulu has really been stepping in it lately, and the FB page is blowing up with negative comments. I'm personally not all that sensitive. I think Chip Wilson is like the crazy relative where you're like "oh dear, did Chip speak again? You'll just have to excuse him." My thighs touch, always have, always will, and it didn't hurt my feelings. I totally disagree with him of course - it's a quality issue and you can't deny a decline. But I'm not losing sleep. Is all this negative PR going to do them in one of these days, or will it blow over as usual?

@anon 11:55 - i use my lulu outdoors at lot, too. for the general most part, i've been able to get the stains/dirt out of my luon. maybe not on light colored luon that was soaked in mud... but the dirt from a 21 day backpacking trip washed out easily from a pow pink CRB. the fabrics that i've had trouble with have been the lulu swim fabric (this is the fabric they used in their summer UPF running pullovers) - it ALWAYS stains horribly. i've returned several UPF running tops to lulu at this point for that very reason. also, some of the light colored two way stretch fabric has also given me trouble stain-wise. i have several pairs of 2-way stretch speed shorts that have white backgrounds, and those also don't release dirt. my zippy green 4-way speeds have some color staining as well, but that's the only 4-way stretch pair that i've encountered that problem with. i use method free & clear on cold in a front loading machine, fwiw.

anon @ 12:21 pm - I got the inspires yesterday and wore them today with a Cool Breeze CRB. Loooooooooove the color.

What I'm really waiting for is some WUCs in the deep zin BB! No interest in the Yeah Yoga crops with that mesh down the side :/

Will there be solid power y's coming out? I'm just not a striped person, but love the raspberry and the winter orchid colors!!!

so I got my full-on luon WUC today. I am on the fence about them. Compared to my older black WUC (my absolute favorite article of clothing I own, but there isn't much life left in them) they are more shiny & not as soft. They seem opaque, but not any thicker than the old regular luon. I'm a little bit bummed as I thought maybe I had finally found a replacement pair which I have been searching for for MONTHS. I am going to take them to the store next week & decide then if I want to return them or if I find something else. Maybe I will try the luxtreme WUC if they have them, but what I love so much about the old luon is they aren't shiny, seem like cotton, but make you look AMAZING. luxtreme is too much of a performance fabric for my tastes since I wear my WUC all the time, dressed up & down. blah. It really shouldn't be this difficult to get another pair of crops I love.

Anon @ 11:55, I also have problems with permanent discoloration in my lulu gear, especially Luon. I have curry spots on my angel blue define, black bicycle grease on my dazzling shape jacket, and something on the cuff of my heathered white back to class jacket (French terry). I have also permanently discolored my faded zap pullover (DWR) with tomato soup. It's been a rough year for my lulu... I find if you catch things right away, stains release relatively easily. I ended up with green sauce on my angel wing CRB and it came out in two washes. I rinsed it out immediately, which is obviously not always practical. I used Tide Free or Method detergent.

went to the store today and the yeah yoga crops are full-on luon, with the special full-on luon tags and everything. why are they being so mysterious on the online description of those crops? they say it's a "new twist" on luon and that it's "cottony-soft" luon, but nowhere say it's full-on luon even though that's there big new thing now.

so bizarre sometimes.

@ anon 2:54 pm - I feel the same as you. I was hoping for something better but I prefer the old luon for my black bottoms. That being said, I do love my luxtreme WUC but I wouldn't wear them casually. I think unless the full oo luon recipe gets tweaked a bit to have less sheen this will just drive me to more printed, textured or luxtreme bottoms for the gym.

@ Ljg680- my deodorant does react with some colors badly - spry is the latest one to come to mind but it washes out for me. I've had Lucy stuff get permanently discolored on me.

@ anon 1:49 pm - Wilson seems to step in it often so he's better off behind the scenes. Who knows about doing them in? I mean, the people who like the clothes like the clothes for performance, fit, function, looks. I like the clothes a lot, the company not so much. But what company deserves my love? They're all after my dollar. Most of the people spouting off about lululemon seem to be people new to or unfamiliar with the brand.

The one clip I heard him say (I didn't watch the whole interview) that the fabric has always pilled - which is true. He said seat belts and purse straps cause abrasion - true. Thighs touching? Eh, I had that when I was a 108 lb size 4. Not much I can do about that. Pilling also happens under the arms on the jackets, too, so can't blame that on people's weight. Some people aren't meant to wear the brand? He totally stepped in it there but why aren't people going after Citizens of Humanity for not making plus sized premium jeans? I don't get the rage at lulu for not catering to plus sizes. Lots of companies don't, big deal. As for the pants being sheer being people's fault for wearing the wrong size, lululemon should just admit the fabric weave changed, got made thinner so coverage wasn't as good. The fit used to be a lot more FORGIVING than it is these days. That is the difference. You could size down a size or two with impunity and now you can't.

I bought the Deep Z in the BB Forme today(tts)and it is stunning! The zipper threw me off at first until I tried it on. I couldn't be happier. This will be a coveted jacket once it is gone!

@Anon 1:49 - I agree. My thighs touch too, but I didn't take much offence to that either. All of my pants work for me. I think the real problem is what has been going on overall (sheer pants, expansion, safety accord, partner's card, denying of cutting corners, the plus-size issue etc). It's literally just been one PR disaster after another for some time now. When people grow so attached to the brand name and its culture, and something goes terribly wrong, there is a much bigger outcry (the storm of negative comments on the facebook page for example). The media really likes to add fuel to the fire as well. Pretty sure lululemon's reputation is pretty much down the drain at this point - when my boyfriends' parents, who don't give a damn about brand names or yoga, start to crack jokes about sheer pants, you know it's bad. I personally think this all started when LLL took a giant step towards expanding globally when most likely they logistically were not ready to do so. Maybe with the new CEO things will improve. I am so disappointed, yet I still have some hope...

Unfortunately the materialistic and blissfully ignorant part of me is still waiting for that floral FTB bra to come out :( dear god...

@ LLA "..but why aren't people going after Citizens of Humanity for not making plus sized premium jeans? I don't get the rage at lulu for not catering to plus sizes. Lots of companies don't, big deal."

My thoughts exactly... I do think it just has to do with the overall culture of lululemon (I don't like using this term often) and while not everyone will care for a pair of COH jeans, many many more want to drink the lululemonade. That's why there 10x more backlash when something goes wrong, in my opinion at least.

@ anon 3:51 pm - yeah, that Partner's card thing was awful. What kills me is they are getting a lot of grief NOW when things look like they are starting to turn around in terms of quality, styles, etc. and two years ago all our cries about declining quality fell on deaf ears as Wall Street just pumped the stock up, up, up. It's very irritating.

I'm looking for some photos or feedback on the skinny grooves with tennis shoes. They look great with bare feet for yoga and I love the way they look with lil boots too. But I'll be wearing them for Crossfit (Santa Cruz baby!)and running. I also have very muscular thighs, I mean really close to Bonnie Blair the ice skater. I only see them on skinny legs! Any comments?

I can add to the Luon care thread ... I have 10ish CRBs (granted none from recent, they are awesome Luon) and have worn them hundreds of times indoors and out, running in the fog. I wash like with like in cold water and Dawn dish detergent (dog gets bathed in that too, it's awesome) and hang to dry. Most of these have been washed 100's of times. I've never had any stain (blood and even motor oil once!)not come out and the colors are still true. I've got my beef with Lulu but I'll rep the older stuff any day.

Also like I said, quadzilla here so they touch at the top of course, and I've got 6 pairs of Lulu WUCs from 2 years, 3 years, and 4 years ago (used to buy 2 pair a year til the ISSUES) and I still rotate them weekly. Barely any pilling. Actually I just looked and only on one pair. Again I wash as above, like with like, but when I'm training I'm putting my gear through its paces.

So if you see a lady with a black labrador wearing a colorful CRB and black Lulu WUCS running around town here say hey cause its probably me.

I have to weigh in on the Lulu controversy. I got my first exposure to Lulu about 10 years ago. I was fortunate to be able to work part time, so I volunteered as a coach with Girls on The Run for 2 seasons. It is an awesome non-profit program that introduces young girls to running with the goal that at the end of the program, they run a 5k race with an adult running buddy (a runner from the community who volunteers to run with the girls at the practice 5k and then at the race). It's really an empowering moment when those kids cross the finish line!

All kinds of studies have been done that show girls who play sports are less likely to drop out if school, do drugs and get pregnant. In addition to running (disguised in various games and such, so it wasn't just making kids run), we had a lesson about things like bullying, self esteem, body image, recycling/being good stewards of the environment, etc. We met twice a week for about 3 months.

Anyways, Lululemon made a big donation to the Puget Sound Girls on The Run. All the girls participating in the program in the entire Puget Sound (not just my site in Redmond) received a jacket or a shirt or a pair of pants from Lulu, and we coaches also received jackets (I'm wearing mine now, and it's a Green Bean Luon something or another and I'm wearing it with my inkwell/green bean striped CRB) and a silverescent running shirt the first season. The second season, Lulu donated bags. We all got bags. (And coaches got a $20 gift card in our bags).

I realize Lulu got a tax write off and all, but I still thought it was really huge of them to do that. And it's funny, but even though a bunch of those girls at my site had parents that worked at Microsoft, we also had some underprivileged kids who were in the program on scholarship (probably the kids who's parents worked for the Microsoft parents cutting their lawns and cleaning their houses). It was a BIG deal for them to get a brand spanking new piece of clothing from Lulu.

I truly don't understand the rage - it seems like people just are waiting for something to be indignant about all of the time, and social media gives them a platform. Most of these people weighing in on the recent "pr issues" seem to be totally unfamiliar with the brand. Regardless, people are really blowing his comments out of proportion.

For stains try lest oil. Its a solvent so it stinks but it's a last ditch effort. I've even used it on my kids expensive rented uk dance costumes for lipstick stains etc. I was the costuming coordinator and recommended it to parents for tough stains. My husband bought mine at a hardware store I think. Ive gotten out lipstick stains like I said as well as nasty grease stains out of my sons dancing pants (don't ask). Good luck. Love you guys, love this blog!

It does annoy me that Chip Wilson is such an a$$ but the clothes are awesome and it would be hard to break up with lulu. It would be great if it was a totally awesome company but like LLA said, what company is? I've never had a pair of workout pants make my butt look so darn good. And I'm a size 4 and my thighs sometimes touch. I wasn't offended by that comment but more so that he is an arrogant jerk. When I got home last night my boyfriend had seen press on the news and said did you know that they're talking about lululemon on the news and saying that all their pants are sheer? I said yes I know that, why do you think I make you check all of my pants before I wear them to actually work out in!?!?!?

Mr. Wilson aside, I do love the deep zin bb print and this is the first print I could actually see myself wearing in bottoms. I currently only have solid bottoms other than the wee are from space print which is more subdued.

So I was just on the lll website and see the bb deep zin forme jacket? Was that a stealth upload or was it there on Tuesday?

I work out hard and there are no stains on any of my LLL from deodorant or anything else. Make up's bad if you get it on anything. (I don't wear much but friends do and their experience is completely different in ruining things.) Wash in cold, inside out, hang to dry. Tide or Cheer.

Anonymous said...

@ anon 3:51 pm...You hit the nail on the head. The company repeatedly, and frequently, shoots itself in the foot, so when something new happens, the outcry is magnified. It's a cumulative effect of all that has gone wrong over the last couple of years. Lulu can't get out of its own way. I didn't take much offense to what Chip said, but I can see how many would. Women are extremely sensitive about weight, body image, etc. Chip is a creative genius, but clearly arrogant and lacks common sense sometimes. He's a ding-dong. All that said, seriously people, if the company pisses you off so much, don't buy their clothes. I like the clothing for fit, function and looks. I try to ignore their dysfunction, poor decisions and arrogance.

Anonymous said...

I am finally starting to get embarrassed wearing LLL. First, they make you bend over for a sheer check and now the CEO brings more shame. The logo is becoming a scarlet letter.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of new CEO, Christine Day is still at the helm thru the beginning of the year....No word yet on a replacement.

All companies have their problems but what annoys me about lulu is how they pretend to be this awesome well meaning company but their not. Just drop the facade and be a business like everyone else. I don't care about their philosophy... And that's why all the bash lash is magnified because they come across as so elitist but they have so many flaws. Geez, just stick to selling clothes and keep this idiot in a closet.

Anonymous said...

@ anon 6:46 - You hit the nail on the head - He's a ding dong! Love it and thanks for making me laugh!

But yes - the technical aspects of the clothes are amazing. I see women in the gym wearing cotton leggings and tee shirts and think how can you work out in that fabric and get all sweaty and it doesn't dry. I think that is gross. People comment to me all the time how do you spend so much on clothes that you are just going to sweat in. Well I take my work outs very seriously and want to perform the best I can when I'm working out and don't want my clothing to keep me from top performance. This is my lifestyle so these clothes go right along with it.

On the stain topic, I haven't had that problem but am surprisingly (for me) careful with my lulu since it is so darn expensive. I also wear makeup but haven't had a problem. I had the deoderant problem with my spry crb but it washes right out.

Anonymous said...

Bad news. IMO the BB deep zin wup are sheer. Between a 2/4 went with 4 and white tag is clearly visible. Black triangle from undies moderately visible in bad lighting. Booooo.

The best thing I've found for removing blood is Chlorox 2. You put some of that on a blood stain, and you can watch it work immediately--it fizzes up. I usually don't put my Lulu in the dryer unless I'm in a hurry and need it right away or unless it's old. That being said, I never put anything in the dryer that I know has a stain (any item that I pre-treated for stain removal). That way, it doesn't get set, and if only some of it came out, I can usually get it out on a second pre-treatment and wash.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 5:39 am - Now I thought the Deep Zin BB WUP were ok - on the thick side and opaque for me. I bought them but haven't worn them yet. I want to see if the print is coming in a crop because I prefer crops for my gym workouts.

W said...

Agree with @6:49
Putting clothes with stains in the dryer set the stains... Or at least that is what my mom has told me!
I also use hydrogen peroxide on blood stains - even old set in stains! Just treat and let it sit for 10-15 and wash normally.
I also use Charlie's Soap for all laundry. Love it!

@ 4:38, agree on your comments about working out hard and once you're in the good gear, that's it. When I'm not in professional work clothes, the second clothing I'm in the most is my workout gear (run, yoga). Once you have quality and it aids in your performance, or rather, it performs so well you forget about it and are not distracted by it - the best! - you can't go back. When I was in my 20s and there wasn't that great technical gear to speak of (especially for women...I feel athletic gear then was just a men's version made smaller and in girly colours, which sorry, girly colours are not what I always want), it was normal for me (and others) to wear t-shirts and stuff I didn't care about. I know I'm 'preaching to the converted', but once you are in technical gear, you will not go back. I've worn every brand from Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Reebok, and once I had my first pair of LLL shorts, that was it. Then you wear a CRB and crops, and RULU :) , and there's absolutely no going back! Especially because all of the gear is (generally) flattering and shows one's hard work. People don't have to buy LLL, but ditch the cotton! Go to Winners/Marshalls, even they have good Nike, Adidas, even North Face etc., for economical prices.

I also agree about the comments from the Chair CW and others at LLL, seriously, shut it. They just put their foot in their mouth time and time again, whether at the corporate level or a store's fault (Partner's club). The manifesto is a nice idea and I bet some customers really do live it, but it's just shtick when it comes to these corporate yahoos, including its founder. If they lived it, they wouldn't say and do things that are disgraceful. I'm not saying that some of the philanthropic pursuits of CW are not good, some are, but yeah, don't speak.

Anon 11:55 here-- Thanks so much for all the wash suggestions!!

In the past, I've forgiven a lot of Chip Wilson's stupidity because Lulu clothes were second to none in quality. These days, I find that a lot harder to do. Buying from Lululemon anymore is a gamble.

I'm pissed at the thighs comment not because of the fat-shaming (and I'm on the larger side of the Lulu size chart, with mighty thighs myself) but because it's another transparent excuse to blame the customers for the company's poor quality.

I just got the Virasana Wrap in the black combo, super flattering. For size reference I'm 5'3" and ~118lb and bought the size 2 for a more clean fit. I wear 4's in defines and 2's in scubas. the arms are fitted so if you don't like that you may need to size up from your norm :)

Brooklyn NY store had them for $148.

I agree with 4:38 and 9:53. All of my lulu gear functions great and looks amazing. I am very careful when I buy my pieces though, and I don't think there is such a thing as TTS. I have bought WUC in 4 and 6 that fit the same, I guess it is the way they are manufactured. I am petite and busty at the same time with wide shoulders and I have trouble finding tops that fit me and are functional, lulu is my answer. I also use the gear when racing my sailboat as well as yoga running kettle bells, lifting and hiking.
I do agree with some that that the clothes are designed with a certain body type in mind. If I was a plus size, I would go elsewhere. Chip still needs to hold his mouth though.
