FYI - Spry Cool Racerback and Some Deodorants - Not a Good Combo

I wore my Spry Cool Racerback the other day and got yellow green armpit circles (mildly mortifying) and thought I had the dreaded pH problem. However, it turns out it's not me, it's my deodorant causing issues. The same thing happened to me today when I first put the tank on and I hadn't even started sweating. I did a quick test by dabbing some of my deodorant (Mitchum Power Gel) on the hem, shown in the above photo, and you can see how the fabric changed color. It washes right out, thankfully. I remember a similar problem happening with the Snorkel Ambition Pullovers a few years ago. Before I put the tank in the wash I tried a putting a different deodorant (Secret solid) on the fabric and it didn't cause any change. Anyway, just wanted you to be aware of this issue.

One of the older turquoise colored swiftly tops reacts in the same manner with Secret gel deodorant. Looks strange temporarily but is ok once you wash the item.

I just washed my spry CRB and the yellow thread bled onto whites. Sucks.

OMG!!!! That blue CRB has a "bad PH" for certain deodorants!!! Stop the car!!! The material is so thin my headlights are shining through on "high beam!" Oh wait!! Its NOT the deodorant's fault, its MY FAULT...for buying the wrong size! Sheesh!

I guess I should have picked up the morning paper and read that article on how ALL Lulus problems is now the customers fault! Duuuuu! LOL Dough!

I had the same issue with my surge bliss dress and my static snorkel pacesetter po. Wth

Thank you for the heads up!

OT I went into my store this morning specifically for the Sizzle CRB and bought it. I'm surprised how close to Mac and Cheese it is, but brighter.

I was also shocked to find myself almost ready to buy the LR Speeds! I'm not a fan of Love Red, but if it was Called "Love Orange" I'm in! And that's what it looked like to me. On the Speeds it looked tomato orange/red (2 way stretch) and I can't stop thinking about them....I'm going to have to go back tomorrow! BUT, I would welcome Currant back with open arms!

Nothing else was even tempting.

My Beach Blanket Blue CRB does the same thing also!! Glad it washed out!

Thanks for the heads up! I just checked my spry blue CRB and I have them too. I use Dove invisible solid. My tank needs to be washed so I hope it comes out. Mine are not that noticeable. I'm wearing my love red CRB to the gym this morning and I wonder if the same will happen to it.

Do I have to worry about spry blue or love red bleeding? So far none of my lulu has bled but I'm a relative newbie.

Also as far as the love red being sheer, it is just a tad but I hardly noticed it until I read the post here. Not a deal breaker for me.

OT - can anyone provide feedback on the yoga on the run duffel bag that is on WMTM? It's a great price but reviews are mixed. While I practice yoga I'm not sure I would put my mat in the bag which seems to be the biggest complaint. I drive to the gym, park in the lot and carry my bag in and then leave it in the car so putting the mat in a bag is not critical for me. I like the idea of putting my shoes in the mat compartment which is what a lot of the reviewers seem to do. Could also use this as a weekend bag. Thanks!

Quick question regarding speeds! I have a pair that is my normal size but the liner seems tighter than my others so it is visible under the actual shorts- if I made a little snip in both sides of the liner where it curves around your butt, would that solve my problem or do nothing?

Thanks for the heads up. That sucks. I used to use the popular brand antiperspirants, Secret worked for me.

I used think I could not get a away with using a deodorant only, but I'm now going paraben (and other chemicals etc.) free with my products. I use Lafes deodorant stick and roll-on, and Ombra Sport roll-on. They work! (I am a hard core runner and Bikram yogi.)

I bought the Spry Blue CRB today. Too bad it's made in Cambodia. Soft though. I like it more than Beaming Blue.

This problem is not exclusive to lulu clothing. It happens if you use deodorant containing antiperspirant. It's something with the way antiperspirant oxidizes that leaves the yellow residue. If you use deodorant w/out antiperspirant, you won't have this problem. Check this out: http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/men/sweating-odor/antiperspirant-stain-clothes.htm

@ anon 8:35 am - Interesting. No antiperspirant is not an option for me, I am a sweater.

@ anon 4:35 am - I wore the Spry CRB with my Zippy Green Energy bra and there was no bleeding. I never heard of love red bleeding before and none of my medium blues, like Beaming, have ever bled so Spry and Love are good. It's the neon colors that are problematic.

OT-lulu uploaded skinny will pants in black to website today. Just a heads up in case you like these. They will be my first pair in this style- hopefully not sheer.

I ordered the CRB in Spry Blue too - should be here this week! Can't wait!! Thanks for the heads up with the antiperspirant. I was wondering if anyone has tried the Bandha Crops? I wear size 6 in Wunder Unders and that's what I ordered the Bandha's in. Just wondering if they are true to size? Sheer/not sheer? Any info would be helpful - I don't live near a store and have to order online.
Thanks!!!

Does anyone know what happened to the go go crop? It is no longer on the site and gec is maintaining that it has sold out! When asked if they had been recalled, she responded that lll will send out emails to customers and that has only ever happened once and that was earlier this year! I actually can think of several items over the past 1-1/2 yrs that have been sent back due to quality issues. She said she was not aware of any of them. Actually, I originally went looking for the item to write a favorable review! This type of customer No Service leaves me with bad feelings.

I'm really turned off by lulu right now. I had gotten a run swiftly v-neck tank and worn it once with a free to be bra underneath. i took it off and noticed tons of snags in it. going for a 45 minute jog should not cause this much damage, so i went to return it today. they took it back, but the girl gave me a huge lecture about the delicate nature of the fabric. it was so condescending. she then informed me how to wash my clothing, to which i told her i've worn lulu for close to ten years. she continued to lecture me that the fabric was delicate and i needed to be more careful. ugh.

thanks for the heads up on the bleeding/deodarant! i just recently had my Runbeam LS ruined from bleeding from an old neon pink (unknown exact color from 2 years ago) sports bra.

and completely OT - when are the astro crops coming back!? those are my favorite...

Anonymous said...

That's crazy! I've never known about that. My only blues are a beaming blue power y and and angel blue energy bra but I've never had any problems with either.

For those talking about natural deodorants, I use the "healthy deodorant" from La Vanilla. ($12-ish at Sephora.) Its the only natural one that has worked for me. I love it and would totally recommend!

Back to Lulu, I would LOVE a pair of love red boogie shorts! Or sizzle! :)

While it would still probably come back, this gave me a reason to take my spry blue CRB back. Picked up some great items on MD, so it was a good decision.

going along with non 8:35, I used to have a problem with gel antiperspirant/deodorant discoloring many of my tops, not just lulu--UA, nike, and even a few free race shirts-- until I switched to a solid just deodorant. I'm going to sweat a lot during my workout anyway, so as long as I don't smell, I'm good.

@ anon 1:19 pm - I've read quite a few comments recently how the newest swiftlys snag super easily. Another core item down the drain. Great going, lululemon.

Anon 2:52, thanks for recommending the deodorant! The ones I've tried smell disgusting, I'm nursing my baby so I tried "natural" ones and ended up just throwing them away cause I couldn't stand the smell!

Anon 4:35 am here - thanks LLA. Glad I don't have to worry about these new colors bleeding. Also, I'm happy to report that I did not have any issues with the love red crb and deodorant marks.

@6:19 am - I would be careful cutting the liner. I would be afraid that it would run like pantyhose from making a cut in it.

I found the bandha crops tts. They look incredibly small but I tried on my true size 4 and they fit. I felt the size 6 were too big and didn't have the same compression. I also wear a 4 in WUC. I didn't get them because I just bought the ignite crops. I also found the ignite to be more flattering because they are more compressive. I did not find them sheer but they are tricky because they are shiny luxtreme so try them on in different lights once you get them because they may appear sheer but it may just be the sheen on them. I only tried on the soot light so maybe it was the color. Good luck!

I also noticed the skinny will pants. I really like the fact that you can adjust the waistband. I also noticed a love red PYB pant on the website that I don't recall seeing before.

soooo disappointed in LuLulemon, any suggestions for alternate stores with better quality?

I have a lot of the Lulu vintage stuff and these issues such as bleeding never happened.

Anonymous said...

Several of my Swiftly tops do the same with Secret. Guess its ALLLLLL MYYYY FAULT for wearing deoderant in the first place. Better make sure wearing deoderant is in the Lulu Rule Book on how to wear Lulu correctly (insert eyeroll) LOL

I wear a 4 in almost everything, occasionally a 2 (5'4" 112lbs). I ordered a 4 and they are cute, but a little snug. So I have a 6 on order now. But NOT SHEER even in a snug fit!

What is meant by the "newest" swiftys more prone to snagging? Are these only the last few colors? I just ask because I have beach blanket blue, pinkelicious, very green, and faded zap and they have been great. I definitely wanted to buy more once some better (non-bright/neon) colors come along but maybe not...

OT: Returned my Love Red inspires...SHEER. For goodness sakes.

Having bought a couple of Swiftlies from their first run waaay back in the aughts, I can concur that the quality is nothing like what it used to be. The new ones are still nice, but sure snag easily and just don't have the same nice hand that the old ones did. The old ones were really silky feeling, too, and so durable. I just see it as money saved for me. The old ones I have are virtually indestructible, so I'm good for the foreseeable future.

I just got my spry long sleeve switfly and it was snagged...straight out of the bag before I even put it on!

Re Bandha crops (anon at 12:27)--a woman in my yoga class had them--in front of me so I checked her down dog, and Nope not at all sheer--she had them in soot color.

@anon12:27 I tried the bandha crops last week since it reminded me of the my favorite dhanurasana crops. I am usually a 4 but I had to size up to an 8 so my calves can breathe. The hem area is tight. So tight on my average sized calves. Hope this helps. It was altogether tighter and sheer until I tried on the 8.

OT for any other Surge Blue lovers: my surge CRB goes really well with the new love red speeds. If you hold surge up to the zipper in the speeds (which is solid spry) you can tell that surge has a lot more green in it. But from a distance you can't even tell and the spry thread across the back of the shorts appears to match surge perfectly.

Since we are on smell topic.....My Free to Be Tank has developed a horrible smell, even after washing it twice. I washed it with other sports items in gentle cycle. My other lulu tops are all fine. I just don't get it. I wear my lulu tops for hot yoga.

I notice that deodorant and also sunblock will stain nylon and polyester. It is not just lulu.

My Dove Clinical Strength did this to my Spry LS Swiftly yesterday! It came out in the wash as well

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 7:41 am - If there is a lingering odor I'll re-wash on warm and then add some vinegar to the wash. That usually does it.

I didn't think the go go crop was uploaded? Tried the solid black on in store and thought they were cute! Left them there though because I've spent enough in July!

My flash dune strip CRB has embarassing dye bleeding all around the area I sweat!!!! What is this??? These are clothes made to work out in! If the dyes in the fabrics can't "handle" our perspiration and deodorants, then I suggest Lulu get out of business.

Next thing they will do is suggest we work out in the nude so our ph levels don't cause problems and our pants aren't sheer because we all apparently wear too small of a size!!!

Unacceptable!!!

I have so many crbs, but tried on the spry anyway. It was too big! Super soft and stretchy, but a little too stretchy, almost gummy. Fabric is different from my other crbs. I'm wearing the soot light now and it fits and feels great. Inconsistencies within a brand drive me nuts.

I got a swiftly tank in the latest orange and while getting it out the plastic wrap, the plastic bit that attaches the tag to the item snagged on the back of the tank. I cut the tag off in an attempt to save the tank. Does anyone think the store will take it back? Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up about the deodorant. I ordered one of these Spry CRBs, and I've got that same deodorant.
