Try On Reviews: Runbeam LS, Mod Waves Cool Racerback, Compass Pant, Amped Tank, and Play All Day Shorts

I got my Runbeam LS today. The fit is similar to the Runbeam SS (which I own and love) - TTS, a bit snug across the chest, loose through the waist and hits me about hipbone height (I'm 5'5"). The upper arms are on the snug side but that is nothing out of the ordinary for lulu. The bottom is not hip hugging so air can flow up there during your run (at least that is what happens to me when I run in the SS version). The thickness and weight of the material seems very similar to the Run in the Sun LS I picked up at the Sea Wheeze last year.

I tried on the Mod Waves Cool Racerback last week at the store and really liked it. I swear someone commented in here that it ran small but I thought the fit was very similar to a CRB. The neckline is a bit higher and the length a little shorter which I don't particularly love about the design but I do love the mesh sides and back - it felt very cool on in the store. My store only had the black when I tried it last week but I am hoping that the US will get the Raspberry/Black version that Canada did. I think the only improvement I would make in this is to change the front panel to luxtreme so the tank is similar to the Right Round tank that came out last summer. It's one of my all time favorite tanks to wear for a sweaty workout. I love to wear it for running on the treadmill at the gym because it is so cool. If you like the CRB for running but find it a bit hot in the summer you definitely want to check the Mod Waves CRB out.

I tried on the new Compass pant. I thought they were fit very similar to one of my recent favorite buys, the Root Chakra pant. They have the same higher wide waistband, have a fitted though generous cut through the rear and leg (so a nice choice for ladies with junk in the trunk or more athletic legs), and the super cute 7/8 length (though it's more like a 15/16 length on me). The luon in these pants felt nice, too. I am into these 7/8 length pants lately and the Root Chakra and Coast to Class are two of my favorites.

I thought the Amped Tank fit on the snugger side, particularly the bra portion. I am not a fan of tanks made of swift in the first place since I imagine the sweat shows very visibly and the material sticks to you when you get wet. This was an easy pass for me.

I tried on the Play All Day shorts in the black color. I had read the blacks fit a little larger than the other colors and the fit was very generous. I found the shorts way too short for me but they did seem comfortable. I know many people are loving them but a few have had issues with the elastic poking them.

I wish lululemon would come out with a looser fitting luon short like the Relaxed Fit short or the Knockout short. Those are my go-to hot weather shorts.

Knockout Shorts - HTF on ebay and always sell for a higher price

What color did you get for the sunbeam tops? I'm far from any store, and I was wondering what other colors are good for a sweaty workout aside from black.

For those of you who like scarves, Tristan has some nice ones. They also have a lot of beautiful, non-workout clothing. Plus some great stuff on sale right now. I just ordered a dress and a skirt :)

Hey luluaddict!

On the Lululemon facebook page, someone posted a pic of how they undid the seams on the cuff of the Play All Day Short, so if you really liked that short you could consider doing that!

In other news, I got my All Sport bra in the mail yesterday in the the groovy multi stripe and it's AMAZING! So excited....

Tried on report, didn't have much time.

Beach Break true kettle - my regular pants size in LULU. Fits nice but the elastic waist band started rolling without any movement. Had to constantly straighten it. Easy pass. Didn't even bother to try on the matching to because the bottom didn't work.

CRB groovy stripe multi - there was only 1 left, in my size 4. The stripe place good. Lots of pink on the chest. Debated on getting it because I already saw some one in my gym with it and the pattern is so noticeable that I would not like to see an exact duplicate when working out in the gym. Bought it and will think about it. May get the FTB bra in theis pattern instead.

FTB groovy strip multi. It seems that all the the individual sizes are similar in stripe placement. For example all the 4 have the thick pink at the bust, 6 cool breeze at the bust. Didn't get this yet.

Black WUC - ok they were back on the shelves. I was anxious to try these since I desperately need another pair. The luon felt the same thin material. The inner seams running down the the legs are darker in color so it almost appears like a stripe. I wear my WUC in the winter as tights and the prominent black seams will not work especially with skirts. AND THEY ARE SHEER.SHEER.SHEER. Very sad. Have to wait some more.

I tried on the compass pant and play all day shorts last week. I didn't love either.

The compass pant was super soft and comfy, but the calves didn't fit right. I have very muscular calves, and I don't think the 7/8 pants fit right on them. Also, the length was funky on my 5'4" frame.

I thought the play all day shorts were comfy as well, but not so flattering. The bunched drawstring waistband didn't create a nice smooth shape on me. I also thought they were a little short (which is weird because I like speed shorts). I think it's because the shorts are the same length in the front and back, so I felt the back was a little exposed (even though it wasn't, it just felt that way).

Those are my thoughts. Thanks for the fit reviews LLA!

OT... LLA, new hot seller on ebay... run back on track skirt... one sold yesterday for $330.00 anyone with that skirt - not using, should list it, personally i love that skirt - but i know it's not for everyone...

@ anon 7:09 am - The ruffly BOT skirts do go for a lot on ebay, particularly the plaid one.

@ anon 6:23 am - The Compass was a bit long on me, too. It hit me between the ankle and heel so look like true flood pants on me. I like the length of the Coast to Class pant better since they are a little shorter.

@ ybc0 - The Power Purple one. That is one of my favorite colors. I know it will really show sweat when I use it to run but I just love the color.

@sb - I've heard from several people the new WUs are still sheer. It's kind of weird since the full length pants like the Grooves, Astros, and Compass are better than they were before. I know someone posted a photo of their butt on the lulu facebook page. I didn't watch the Britt response video yet but I've seen comments that she gives a non-answer.

The reviews on the website seem to have been removed!

I bought wu crops the other day. I can do either a two or a four and these were soft and thick in a four. I am referring to the black of course. Maybe there are different batches.

I saw that! I bid when it was around 100 and then I was out. I have the coal/pink and wish I would have bought white too!

After waiting months, I'm just so disappointed about the WUs. I'm beyond disgusted with lululemon. Really?? After A LOT of feedback and patience from your loyal customers, the enormous uproar that hurt your brand and your profits, and after months, you still can't make a pair of $80 leggings that aren't sheer? Seriously??? What a joke of a company. I was about to go online and buy the Compass pants and some Men's items as well, but I think it's time I stopped wearing and buying such a loser brand. Lululemon was overcome by greed and threw away their values, trying to get away with cheap materials and processes; now they're putting up videos and running campaigns pretending that they're listening to us and seeking ways to improve. Either they think we're fools, or they're a tragically incompetent and clueless company.

since it was brought up....can you please post the video link on here....LLA? I cannot find it online or on their FB Page. I looked and looked to no avail! (Britt response video) THANKS!

WOW! I have 3 back on track skirts, love them. I would not pay that much for them, and I love them too much to sell. But I must say that it's interesting to see that stuff sell for such high prices. I wonder why Lululemon doesn't keep track of beloved designs and bring them back... All they would have to do is basically keep track of this blog. Thanks LLA!

Hey LLA- do you know if scuba's ever go on sale? I've got my eye on the nimbus/soot light/zippy green one, but don't want to pay full price.

thanks!!

never mind....I found the video. nice response they gave! LMAO.... :(

there are some mixed reviews about the 'new/improved' black wu crops. many state still sheer while others continue to blame the individual.

one went so far as to state something along the lines of 'accept that you don't have the body to pull these off if they are sheer'? lol.

the pants were RECALLED for quality issues and yet people are still blaming the customers?

has anyone had any success with the new crops or is it the same mediocre quality?

i personally don't blame my butt because i could feel the difference in the fabric..its also why i stopped buying studio crops as the new ones are horrible compared to my old ones.

im asking because i trust the reviews here and i don't know if its me, but im growing tired of the reviews on the lulu website that appear to be more competition focused if you know what i mean.

i had a glimmer of hope that the quality issues would be resolved but i haven't bought any bottoms for quite a long time.

im not near a store so have to rely on the mail...thanks in advance for any info.

For those of you disappointed in the dwindling quality of the Scuba hoodie, check out American Giant. Amazing quality; made in the USA and they are like $89 (if I remember right). They are coming out with a middleweight hoodie in the fall too. They are a bit plain, but I am mostly interested in a longer length GOOD quality hoodie and Scubas are NOT cutting it for me anymore.

WOW about the BOT skirt! I have paris pink and a white one. I barely wear them. I should consider listing those...

@ 1:18pm - what size are yours? i would happily buy the paris pink from you! i'm a sz 4

My gym had the Inspire crops with the new black and white polka dot waistband for sale today

I tried on the black wunder Unders and they were shear. I am holding tight to my first ever purchased pair of grooves. I don't even like the flare but I like that my ass does not show! 10 year old lulu is nothing like today's, they don't even pill!!!!

I did not know the Knock Out short was so hot. I almost sold them to a friend who wanted looser shorts and was disappointed with LLL's current selections. Without saying so, I think she thought my $40 (barely worn) was too high. I paid over $50 with tax for the shorts so I was not letting them go for way less when they are in pristine condition. It's totally OK because I'm glad I kept them.

Wow!! I sold a BOT skirt for like $50 a few months ago. Guess I should have waited a while. I think I may have one more & if so, I'll be listing it ASAP!!

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 6:32 pm - There are certain people who are on the lookout for them. I've paid less but they weren't listed as knockout shorts so I was able to snag a pair for around $30. I think you can get ~$50-ish for them, if they are in good shape and not a weird color. I have a friend who really likes them for Cross Fit.

anon @ 1:18 here. My white and paris pink BOT skirts are both size 8. They would be swimming on you! :) I do LOVE them. I am a sucker for ruffles. I love the Run: Resolution skirt, Run: Take Flight and the BOT. The Pacesetter isn't my fav because the front is boring IMO.

@ anon 10:14 Re: WUC I bought mine the day they hit my store's shelves in FL, and they are awesome. I have a pair from 08 or 09 and I think they're similar (waist band is higher, gusset triangle instead of diamond). I have another pair I bought last year that are super-sheer...I never wear them. So I have a good sample to compare. HOWEVER, I just bought another pair for my SIL (who shops at the Carlsbad, CA shop and says their WUCs are sheer). But this new pair feels like completely different pants and they are a little sheer (not as much as last years, but way more than the new pair I bought 2 weeks ago). Boggles the mind. There's clearly different batches, no matter how ridiculous that sounds.

As for the Compas Pant...LOVE them! I'm bottom heavy, but have long legs, so these fall an inch above my ankle. I roll them up twice usually. My current favorite pants!

I read that obnoxious comment on the lulu website somewhere too, along the lines of "just accept you don't have the body to pull these off if they are sheer." FYI, I am a size 2 in LLL and very thin and I found both the Astros and WUC VERY SHEER.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 9:03 pm - I totally agree that there are different batches of bottoms. Some have sucky fabric and some are great. It sounds like a lot of the new WUs are sucky. Did either of you buy the Charcoal WUs that were recently released? Those had very good coverage. I know it's not for everyone since the material is kind of silky/slippery and it does show sweat very easily. Another option is to look for the two tone where one side is black and the other a color or print. Those are usually a bit thicker. However, I do find they have a bit of a "spongey" feel.

I, too, recently tried on a pair of the new black WUs - sheer. I'm between a 2 and a 4, tried on the 4. Was super bummed; I've only just gotten into lulu early this year, and I've been looking forward to getting my first pair of black WUs! (I do have the blue pinstripes and the charcoal crops, but want a black tight!)

I ended up leaving with the cool breeze pace setter (the fabric is so nice on this one), cool breeze/pizazz stuff your bra, and a rasp glo swiftly tank. I debated over the multi groovy strip power y foreeeever, and it's been haunting me, so I might go back tomorrow to snag it if it's still there.

Surprisingly, I didn't like the nimbus/soot groovy stripe crb I tried on. I thought i'd love it. It made me look oddly washed out/boring. In addition, I felt like the arm holes were a little tighter or something -- the piping rolled in oddly in both sizes I tried. That could just be because I'm developing some awesome upper body strength lately...

Tried on the mod moves singlet and wanted to like it because the fabric feels so lovely (especially for hot chicago summer runs), but the peplum did not work on my height (5'4") and proportions (petite).

Also tried the play all day shorts in the nimbus/soot stripe -- sadly way too big on me. Wish they came in a 2!

Was extremely tempted by some of the new crop options, but there's no way I can run in crops for another few months, and i'd rather spend my limited budget on things I can wear now. :)

anon 8:03 - thanks for replying back! i love the ruffles also, i mostly have pacesetters b/c i've been running for a long time and i didn't think i could really pull off a run skirt and to my surprise i find them better for me than my long time fav turbo runs.... i'll keep stalking ebay for more BOT or any cute skirts in sz 4!! btw LLA such an AWESOME blog - thank you for keeping us all so informed!!

Anonymous said...

anon @ 5:35 - check out ebay for the Run: Take Flight. It is my favorite running skirt of all. The ruffles aren't obnoxious. It is more flouncy than ruffled. It is super light and airy, which the BOT is NOT. The BOT is really heavy with all of the ruffles. I don't think I could run in it, but it is super cute for tennis. The Take Flight skirts are usually cheaper. I think it came in Surge, Dewberry, black and a charcoal grey. I have the black and charcoal, but totally wish I had snagged the Surge.

Anonymous said...

@7:50am - oh i will, thanks so much! i'd not heard of the run take flight!!

anon 5:35 here again - just checked ebay and there is a lovely take flight skirt - but the length - at 11.5" in a little too short for me - i always get the 4T in pace setters and even my 1 BOT i would love if it was like 1/2" longer - but i do love it - maybe i'll luck out and find one listed without the name... thanks again for pointing out the take flight!
