Today's Shopping Trip - Front Racer Love (I Know, I Know)

It must have been all those Battlestar Galatica photos because after bagging on the Front Racer Tank for the past few days I ended up buying one today. I tried on both the Silver and the Black and went home with the Black. I don't know whether I've run across a photo of it paired with the Energy Bra underneath but they work well together. It's a little longer than a CRB and wider so you can almost wear it as a tunic top. I have narrow, sloping shoulders so the weird front cutouts actually worked for me. The light luon used in both the Silver and the black was thick, soft, and reminiscent of the material used when I first started buying Cool Racerbacks. I would say the length of the Front Racer hits me about the same spot as it does the woman in this photo - a couple of inches below the crotch.

Bruised Berry Faded Dot Cool Racerback on top the Front Racer Back Tank. Both are the same size. I will say the BB CRB does run a bit smaller than my other CRBs.

I also bought the Zippy Green Energy bra. The top photo shows it compared to the Faded Zap Energy. The middle photo shows it compared to an Alfalfa heaband. (I was hoping Zippy Green was similar to Alfalfa or Antidote.)  I've been reading comments that people have felt the newer Energy bra colors are fitting differently than older ones. I happened to wear a black Energy to the store today so here is the comparison of the two, the Zippy looks a little smaller.

I also tried on the Clarity tank and loved it. Since I have the very similar Tiny Tee from the Lab I was able to pass but if you like Vitasea tanks you might want to check this one out. I'd say this runs TTS. If it comes in more colors I would consider getting one.

I also tried on the Power Flow crops. I liked them quite a bit and didn't think they were overly sheer in the Beach Blanket. I wouldn't get any of the colors out in it now but the ed told me the black version of these were part of the pullback so I don't think more colors are coming in these right now.

BTW, remember these Embody crops that we got an accidental look at? They were part of the pullback, too, so won't be coming after all. I am bummed because I really liked the Inkwell Embody crops I tried on. I hope lululemon decides to remake this style with good luon because it's a winner in style and fit.

I also tried on the Elongate Burnout top. It's a nice style but the material is better suited for pajamas. If lululemon is going to do a burnout style then I'd prefer it in the manifesto prints or a pattern like used in the Perfect Layer Tees.

I also have another rumor for you - the SS Swiftly necklines are being changed to a more open style.

I'm bummed about the embody crops, I've been looking for those in every upload since the picture came out!

Thanks LLA! So regarding the front RB tank, does it hide the energy bra? I wish I could see a pic of the combo, are any of these ladies wearing an energy bra in any of the pics? I kinda want it in black.... Also I am between
a size 2&4 in CRB tanks ( 4 is slightly too loose in the mid section) so you think a 2 would be best?

Very disappointed re: Embody crops - the design + the black and blue combo were enough for me to want to give the Luon a shot. Shoot. OT - the new print you called out as being childish? Prominently featured in iVivva's upload today...

I had to go a size up in the Power Flow crops: I was asked to bend over and sure enough you see right through them. What's going on?

the model wearing the silver front racer tank on the website has on an energy bra. i spotted this yesterday and it is a good combo. that lady in the black/white top looks great, but i don't like how it looks in the white/patterned bra photo. seems very hit or miss. thank's to your review, LLA, i'm going to try it in the silver and hope it looks good. it's hard to find an airy lululemon tank that covers your chest and butt.

I agree, the latest Energy Bras are fitting differently. I recently bought a size 8 EB in pinkalicious and it was tighter around the chest than size 8 EN's I bought this past winter. No consistency

To each their own but I will never buy the Front Racer back tank. I still think it is lame.

Well if they mess with the neckline of the Swiftly, I hope that they at least keep the old version of it as well. I liked the coverage of the plain crew neck of the Swiftly, especially during long runs in the heat. Swifly gods, please don't let this staple go the way of the Defines....

I have no idea why they changed the description of the Energy bra to low support. I am a 34C and it is my FAVORITE bra for running! Comfortable, supportive, and flattering IMO. I now have 5. Angel blue, pinkelicious, bleached coral/pop orange, very green, and power purple. It used to say medium support on the website! And I swear they used to market it as a running bra but now it says "low support yoga bra" on the tag.

I actually noticed some slight chaffing under my arms after wearing my Very Green Energy Bra last week. Nothing a little Body Glide couldn't fix, but I'm annoyed that I'll have to bother with that.

when i'm wearing "street clothes" i like to wear a scoop neck but i actually really like the full crew neck of the ss swiftly. i'm willing to give it a shot...but i'll take this as an opportunity to not pass on ss colors i like in the current neck style. ;)

I could see how the Front Racer could work for some people. I actually might go give it a try because I like longer tanks.

I was just perusing some old uploads from 2011.....man, those were the good old days. Sad about the crappy uploads that we've had for basically the past 6-7 months :(

Yikes! I didn't realize the Embody crops were part of the recall. I snagged an inkwell pair and have worn them numerous times to pilates. The luon felt good, so I didn't think they would be sheer. Guess I better do a bend-over test in the mirror. I really really like these crops. The wunder unders have never really fit right on me...these were a much better fit with a bit higher rise. I hope Lulu gives them another shot.

I'm so sad to read about the Embody Crop. I figured they were pulled though because I've been waiting and waiting for more releases in the blues and the greens that we saw. I bought the inkwell and love them and I really hope Lulu is reading this and will make these crops in good old solid luon and all kinds of color combos. These will fly off the shelves. I'd love to see them do this in the run inspire crops as well. Go back to the good old luxtreme that actually had compression and wasn't sheer and do multi-color down on the legs.

@ anon 5:26 am - The Inkwell Embody crops are fine but there were going to be some black ones comes and those are the ones that got pulled

I saw a girl at the local lll (union square NYC) and she was wearing the embody crops in the inkwell, they looked awesome on here and the luon was not see thru. I was coveting them.

I actually wouldn't mind the swiftly SS's getting a neckline update. I love running in swiftlies but a more open neckline would be a welcome change for me.

Aw I'm really bummed we won't get more colors in the Power Flow Crop. I loved the BBB color but I already have that color in In Flow Crop and Beaming blue wuc's. I can only justify so many bright blue crops. Really loved the fit and feel of the Power Flow Crops. Same with Pinkicious color. I already have a pace crop in it. My legs are NOT ready for an all white pair of crops. Sigh!

Just wondering if anyone will ask if you are wearing your tank top backwards. Because that's what it looks like to me. Seriously, just because the tag says lululemon, don't get sucked into terrible deisign!

Anonymous said...

I agree that that backward-looking tank looks dopey, and it also does not flatter the figures of anyone I've seen it on yet.

Bummed that the energy is fitting differently. I noticed the pinkelicious and very green seemed snugger. I guess I will have to try the purple before buying. Wish it would hurry up and arrive at my store. Still not there.

The newer Energy Bras DO fit differently. But I have thought this since earlier this year. My early 2012 Energy bras are much more comfy and I don't know what the difference is- except maybe a little loose around the rib cage? I have a big rib cage so all Lulu bras fit me pretty snugly even when sizing up (I am 5'8" 38D and wear between an 8 and a 10 and take a 10 in the Energy Bra)

@12:26 Me too... That's why I like the Swiftly Tanks more. I'd like to see a Swiftly SS with a wider / open neckline.
