Paceline Photos

Some photos of the new Paceline stuff.

I'm not sure what is going on with the shorts and all the wrinkles in the back.

No wrinkles here.

eek... why would the stores even post those photos of the shorts?! They have to know it makes them look THAT BAD.

I love the design of the paceline stuff, but the fabric seems to wrinkle very strangely. I've never felt it...is it stiff or something?

Nothing interests me. And I can't really justify the 108 price tag for that cycling shorts. I have two pairs of wonderful Pearl Izumi bike shorts, and together, they are even not 108.

I was thinking of getting some "real" cycling shorts, but after reading the comments about how expensive Lululemon's are compared to others, I will look elsewhere.

I realise bike shorts are padded, but these photos do not show the shorts to be flattering.

So glad I'm not interested in this gear, not even on markdown.

When fabric pulls and puckers like that it's because it's too tight. If you see that happening size up!

LuluAddict said...

@ anoninouse - do you think so? It almost seems that both those women don't have enough backside to fill out the shorts.

I think the pink tops are cute and look functional, but I bit the bullet and bought the Specialized top instead (LOVE it). It looks like they are starting to sell out already.

Those shorts do look awfully bumpy...

OMG!!! Guess they dont know anything about photoshopping nipples out of their pics! LOL Hhhahaha!

Yes, the puckered shorts are way too small for her. Same with the bright pink cycling top. Look at all the puckered, pulled fabric. Clothing looks so much better if you wear the right size for your body.

Yeah it doesn't look too tight to me either. Seems like maybe the shorts were meant for some serious booty.

The reason why those shorts look good on the bottom picture, is because the model is muscular an she is wearing the correct size. I notice bike shorts are never (at least in my view) attractive unless the person (man or woman) is incredibly muscular. This time I can't blame the designers. It's the same thing as trying to fill a bra that is too big for your size, it just ain't gonna look good.

That is the same puckering (on the pink cycle top) that you get on the cardio kick tank. I can't figure out if it's the stitching or the fabric.

OT -- Very Green Keep Your Cool Racerback tank uploaded to Iviiva website, if you're a size 2/4 in Lululemon :)
I ordered a Pinkalicious Power Y, printed Pinkalicious CRB and Black quilted waistband Wunder Unders from there today. I'm a size 4 in LLL.

Totally off topic but has anyone heard of Carbon38? I saw a blurb about it in Shape magazine. They spotlight a different fitness brand every week and you can purchase the items. The only brands I recognized were Michi and Lorna Jane. I just ordered a leopard bag from a brand called Outdoor Voices. Free shipping and I can return if I don't like so that's cool. Just throwing it out there since everyone is looking for other brands to supplement.

It doesn't matter what shape her butt is, she might have a flatter backside but she's not gone with her true to size. I'm a dressmaker and I've made dance costumes in the past that use the same techniques and machines that Lulu use for their clothing. You measure your hips at the widest point of your backside, not where the hip bones are, a lot of people measure way too far up, if they even measure them.

If you look further up the page there's a really good sideways picture of a lady who has a very shapely backside, the third picture down, there's no puckering on her paceline shorts.

I agree with you LLL Addict and anon at 1:42 pm, the shorts are wrinkled because her butt is not big or full enough to fill them out. That is the difference between the two photos, one woman has booty, the other does not. I know, I suffered from flat butt syndrome for a long time!

OT but I have a fit/quality report on some recent purchases:

Dune Stills worn and washed 3 times. They look and feel beautiful and soft, but are pilling like crazy.

Run: Layer Me Pullover (not sure if that's the right name but it was on WMTM recently; it's the one with the zipper and the short collar). I took it out for a run - love the Rulu light, it's perfect for the cool Vancouver Island spring. The pocket in the back isn't too useful since anything I put in there bangs around on my butt. Finally, I purchased the black and it is already covered in lint just hours out of the package. However, I am very happy with the purchase. Feels great, looks great, and fits good.

Cardio Kick Tank. HORRIBLE. I think this was the worst purchase I ever made from Lulu. I was skeptical but there were so many reviews saying it was a good choice for curvier women, or women with larger breasts. I wear a C cup, and even though I was spilling out of this tank the seams still puckered on me. The whole front of the tank was all wrinkled up when I tried it on,and to make matters worse the darned cups were so small and you could see them through the fabric - it looked like I was wearing big pasties! I also find that the curved side seams and curved hem make me look dumpy and very thick in the middle.

OT - Does anyone know what's going on with the work it out tank? I see it in my local stores but it's not on the website. I was curious to read some reviews on it. I like it in the very green. Thanks.

Your bike shorts should not be so tight that every detail of the chamois is visible such as the photo of the girl in the pink shirt with her hands on her hips. Way too small for her fit body!

VERY annoying that Ivivva has a Very Green Keep Ur Cool Racerr ii! LLL idiots! This is why there's no LLL VG CRB. The striped KUCRii on the Ivivva banner photo for tanks is nicer than anything for LLL of late. This company is so F-ed up! Taking LLL to a juvenile level and putting some better items in the Ivivva brand.

My non lulu cycling sorts puckered like that when I lost weight and couldn't fill them out anymore.

@ anon 5:43 pm - I bought the pink cardio kick tank for $19 this weekend and wore it to run in. It was ok but I couldn't get it to lay flat on the chest without yanking it down. The luxtreme is just too slipper over the chest. I've though of tacking it down to the bra on the side and seeing if that works but I might just try to dump it on ebay after they are all gone from wmtm and the stores and everyone forgets why it sucked. ;-)

you get puckering when the fabric is stretched in one direction, but isn't stretched in the other direction at the same time, so it puckers. this can happen when an item is too small, or when the fit is just wrong for the body type. from the looks of these pictures, i don't think the shorts look too small on this/these women (i can't tell if it's two women or the same one). i think they look like they fit across her hips, but they just don't work well with her body type - these shorts seem to require an equal amount of vertical stretching as they do horizontal stretching (aka - these shorts are cut for larger bootys). my guess is that the decision to cut the shorts in this way might have something to do with sheerness. if you cut shorts for a larger rear, then there's less stretching the fabric needs to do when you bend over in them - and you're often bent over on a bicycle. what does this mean for the girls with flat backsides? it means that the shorts are really unflattering on them, and they pucker. i suppose you could cut the shorts for a flat backside so there's no puckering for anyone, but then you have a greater chance of sheerness when bending over if you DO have a butt. so either way, someone loses. in this case, lulu chose the rounder butts over the flatter ones.

LLA, after reading your review, I probably won't even get it at $19 now, let alone it's still $39 in my local store. It's ridiculous how long they stayed in WMTM section and they're still available in every color and size.

I have loved the LLL cycling jerseys & tanks I bought last year & have ordered one of the new ones. They have not got the shorts right. One of my favorites is a women's bike shorts brand called Terry- made just for women. Great shorts. I never order their tops because I tend to prefer my Lulu tops.

Anonymous said...

It's me or the lulu site is down? I can't open any page other than the homepage.

Anonymous said...

@sophia Agree with everything you said. seems like LLL just can't use a good quality fabric and flattering cut at the same time, they just have to sacrifice one for the other. Pass.

the 2nd from last picture is just ill-fitted. Why would they want to put up such picture for us to see? lost the appetite for these bike shorts.

You are correct 8:40PM

I bought the paceline jacket and jersey yesterday in the pink and they are both super gorg - love them :) I rode yesterday in the top and it was great. I may go back and get another of the jersey.

On the bike shorts, they did the pucker thing on me like the last pic above - from the front they fit perfectly but the back they looked like grannie undies gone wrong :(
I am a size 4, and in lulu usually go up to a size 6 for the bottoms and 8 for the tops. I started out trying on the shorts in a 10 cause they run small and the puckering was really really bad, so I went down to an 8 and the puckering was a little better but still not good and I was just too discouraged to try a 6. Last years cycling shorts from Lulu were a joke on the padding front and at least the padding felt very substantial on these shorts, but the puckering just put me off. I will stick with Pearl Izumi Pro series bike shorts.
