I tried on the Reflective Jacket. The material is super shiny but thick and stiff. It felt very unbreathable to me in the store. I began to sweat in it just wearing it in the dressing room so I can't imagine running in it unless it was really, really cold out. There are only a few grommet holes under the armpits so the venting there is non-existent. I thought the neckline was also kind of stiff against your neck and I can see it could become annoying over a run if it rubs against your bare skin. I just checked the on-line reviews to see what people had to say and quite a few people say they found it hot. The fit was TTS. Since I don't run at night this is an easy pass for me.
I tried on the Get Up and Glow Jacket, too, and liked that much better. I though the fit was TTS. As a run jacket for Southern California I think it's overkill since it's lined with coolmax so it felt very warm on in the store. The store was out of the Spring Has Sprung in my size, which is the one I'd be most interested in as a to/fro jacket for me.
I tried on the Uba SE and liked it a lot. I really dislike the bulk of the front fleece liner but the rest of the jacket is nice. If it came in a really pretty bright color, like Sprinkler Blue or Bruised Berry, I could see getting one but the current offerings are not driving me to buy this jacket. I think it's a useful windproof, water resistant jacket but I can live without one for now until some better colors come along. I thought it fit TTS, maybe a bit roomy in the middle.
I tried on the Reflect Crop and disliked them. I just didn't think they were that comfortable. I tried on the version shown in the photo which is not kind to people with thicker legs. The rise is mid, I think. At least I'd classify it that way on me. Neither the website nor the hang tag describe the rise. I would definitely prefer Inspires or Run For Your Life crops over these.

Old E& F (top) compared to new (Thanks to Ms. O for the photo) |
I tried on the new Ebb and Flow crops in black. I really dislike the new length, which is about 5" longer. The waistband seemed not as snug as the previous version and the pants seem less compressive overall. Last time I had to buy a size down so the waist was really snug but in contrast to the new version, it seems like the new ones are almost too loose. I didn't think they were super sheer. I could see a faint outline of the rip out tag when I bent over but I had on nude underwear and didn't think they were that bad. I did not try a full-on toe-touching bend, though.
Top Speed on top of an Energy bra |
I tried on the new Top Speed bra and liked it quite a bit. I thought the front coverage was similar to the All Sport or Energy bra. The armpits are a little deeper than the Energy's, as you can see in the second photo. The bra band seemed to fit a bit loose in the black one I tried on and I blame that on the elastic piece at the bottom of the circle. I think it's too stretchy compared to the rest of the bra. I think the Energy and definitely the All Sport have tighter bra bands. The straps were comfortable but not super supportive for bustier women. This would be a low impact bra for me. If I was going to rate shelf bras in terms of support I put the All Sport first, Energy second, and then this one. The racerback is fairly wide in the back and will show quite a bit when wearing a Cool Racerback. If you've been looking for something similar to the Energy in terms of front coverage you should check this bra out.
I tried on the Spring Has Sprung No Limit tank and was very tempted to get it because I am dying for a tank in this print. However, I have to layer another bra under the No Limit for anything more active than weight lifting and I kind of hate doing that. Then I remembered that a new All Sport bra came out in the Spring Has Sprung print so I made my own Spring Has Sprung No Limit-ish/Pump It Up-ish tank combo with the All Sport and the new Black 105F Singlet:
I tried on the Burning Yellow cool racerback today but found the color very similar to Creamsicle Pop, except an anemic version of it. I did not like it at all. I also saw all the new Flare/Inkwell color blocked and striped stuff and thought it was all hideous. I bought the light Flare Cool Racerback last summer and really like it but it's just awful next to Inkwell. Way too garish. I know navy and orange is a hot combo in fashion right now but lululemon's implementation of it is terrible. I cannot wait until it is gone from the stores.
Update - I forgot to post that I tried on the Post Restoravtive Sweatpants, too. Man, I really liked them. They reminded a lot of my favorite Feel Good pants. They are super soft and the gathers at the ankle are kind of loose, not like the tight ankles on the Pleasing Pants. The material felt the same as the Pleasing Pants, which were very delicate, so if you get them treat them tenderly. I see there is one review on the website about someone putting a hole in them when putting them on, which is a shame because these are cute and comfortable. If they were $20 cheaper and I didn't spend over $400 on race entry fees this month I would take a chance on a pair. I thought the fit was a loose TTS.

Does everything have to have stripes now?
I wish they'd put back the scalloped edges on the 105F tank. Without them, I find them too plain. I can find similar tanks for less elsewhere.
Great idea lla, by making your own no limit! I keep trying them on and they don't highlight my small waist (which I like to emphasize) because of my full bottom and the support is just not there like at all for me.
Y
I don't like the Burning Yellow CRB either. I still don't understand why they didn't offer a sold Alberta Lake CRB.
I think it's safe to say that a lot of the flare/inkwell stuff is going to end up in wmtm. It'll be interesting to see if people "like" it then. I don't and wouldn't even buy it if it went to wmtm.
I have seen someone in the polar haze stripe CRB and that's about it. Otherwise I haven't seen anyone in my yoga classes (go to 2 studios that have a range of age groups, live in a major city) in any of this stuff. Pretty much only classic LLL.
I love the flare/inkwell. I bought thebra and u-turn and wore it with inkwell ice queens yesterday to a race. I goy TONS of compliments? I am blond with fair skin. Maybe the color scheme looks better on me than you?
@anon 10:54 - agree about the scalloped edges. It was a pretty and feminine design feature that made the 105 singlet stand out from the competition. I personally don't mind tweaking and revamping styles but in the last 6 months none of the tweaking has actually improved quality or customer satisfaction. Whichever way this goes for Lulu, it will make an interesting business case in a few years. I think Lulu is experiencing the same issue as a lot of retailers: sluggish economy, aging customer base and increased competition for existing market share (hence all the tweaks to protect their profit margins). Lulu is looking for a way to stay relevant but it's not looking to stay relevant with me, obviously! I'm 40 and I was shopping at H&M for my 5 year old son when I saw an flare/inkwell striped shirt. My 5 year old can pull off that look no problem. His mom? Problem! OT - I just realized this morning that I'm no longer a lulu addict but I am a Lululemon Addict addict. Thanks for all of the great work, time and energy that you put into this blog.
E&F ii are definitely way more sheer than the i's (i's it's not even an issue for me). They will only get worn to Bikram, not Vinyasa Flow, and not anywhere else (whereas the i's I wear to Bikram and Vinyasa Flow). The only reason for that is because in Bikram people where a lot less than I do! I figure my slightly sheer E&F ii with decent nude undies, while still keeping it classy, is pretty much a non-issue at Bikram. I do regret the purchase of the E&F ii, especially due to the thinner material. The ii's really are substandard when it comes to the material. I don't truly get the 'second skin' feeling that I do from the i's. Yesterday in Bikram I actually thought about them during practice (not as comfortable as i's and distraction - not good). I also really don't like the new length. I'm able to shift them up to a crop length and this is comfortable and they stay put. Everything stayed put during Bikram, and I wore them with the waistband folded down. But overall, there are enough negatives that make me admit they should have gone back. If you're thinking of buying them, don't. Wait to see if they bring back the prior version with the thicker material. I realize that may be vane hope because everything with LLL of late is all deteriorating quality!! This is just another example. On wash & wear: washed twice and worn once, no issues so far. (I have no issues with the E&F for wash & wear.)
In the past Scubas have gone to wmtm sometime around now/in the near future. Will happen with the Scuba Stretch? I can't believe they are selling as briskly as the old Scuba. I totally won't pay full price but might buy if they go to markdown at a reduced price I could see my way to.
I actually found the Top Speed bra to be very supportive. I'm a 34C and got it in a size 6. Absolutely no jiggle whatsoever when jumping up and down and running. For me, it's way more supportive than the All Sport bra or the Energy bra. I only wish it came in more colours without stripes.
I bought the reflective jacket and LOVE it. I wore for my 15 k run which was dark for the first half. I was seen for miles! It is light as a feather. Feels super good on. It was -12C on my run. I found it breathable. Finally a jacket for the dark cold winter days. I will wear it for at least 6 months of the year!
totally agree with the scalloped edges. I bought the angel blue one when they first came out, and that's what I like about it. Otherwise it just looks like a giant tank top for basket ball players. :/
LLA, I love your idea of making your own "no limits" as the perfect solution for me too! I am wanting a SHS top, but there is none to be had! I bought my first All Sports yesterday and love it (still have to train in it though...) so a SHS with the 105 would be really nice!
But, although I do not like stripes, I was surprised to find myself buying the orange/blue striped Get up and Glow pants after seeing them in the picture of the woman on the rope a few posts ago. I have thick legs and didn't find the stripes to be unflattering. I do have to add that I'm planning on pairing them with white tops, and a have a "vintage" white Shape jacket I love, and a running tunic in a neon red from about 4 years ago that is very similar in color to Flare and looks adorable with the pants.
I did end up ordering an Inkwell crb since my local store sold out and it just wasn't worth my time to travel to the other 3 or 4 stores within driving range since all of the stores have taken to not answering their phones!
Took my Ebb and Flows back, too sheer, too long. (Inkwell) And I'm patiently awaiting more LS swiftly options, mostly Dune and Frond.
I agree about the scalloped edges - I liked that version the best but the current black one isn't bad at all.
I bought a Top Speed bra yesterday, I wanted the All Sport in black, but my store didn't have it, so I got the Top Speed instead. I also bought 2 new All Sport bra's yesterday. I didn't find the band on the Top Speed to be stretchier. I also found the bra in general to be more restrictive than the All Sport or Energy bra, though I haven't washed it yet, so I'm wondering if it will stay that way.
@ anon 5:22 am - I didn't even try on the flare/inkwell stuff, it repulsed me on the hanger. If it works for you, that is great. It's really eye-catching but I found it extremely irritating to even look at - like waving a red flag at a bull, it just bugs me for some reason, lol.
@ anon 6:59 am - ITA agree about the 105F looking like an oversized basketball jersey. Did you ever try sizing down a size or two in it? I buy it two sizes down so it fits more like a loose fitting cool racerback. It's just too sloppy looking (and fitting) in my regular size.
@ anon 6:55 am - I can see the reflective jacket working well for -12C temps. It's a great jacket if you want visibility but I can't see using it for my climate in southern California. A vest version would be nice.
I think the reflect crop looks good on you!
Agree. Loved the scalloped edge... it just looks like a regular tank without that cute detail.
@ anon 10:19 am - thanks, but that isn't me in that photo but a store ed. ;-)
For anyone looking to match their Spring has Sprung -- TOMS has a print to match exactly -- LOL!! Nordstrom has a killer return policy!!

Just throwing in my two cents worth. I don't know WHAT Lulu is thinking, when they create so many "useless" jackets/coats where the piece of clothing is either too warm for working out in or not warm enough, but I heafty $300 price tag!! Then...a few weeks later, it's on sale In WMTM!? I REFUSE to spend that on a lulu coat! In my opinion, most lulu coats aren't worth spending $300 on, but hey....my guess is thats someone is paying that, or else Lulu wouldn't keep trying to charge that!
I also have loathed the inkwell/flare stripe combo but then went into my local lulu and one of the educators was wearing the new rulu top - I think it is called first base and it was really cute on her! I was totally shocked. not enough to convince me to try it on but very cute. That new top is super soft and really cute. I ended up leaving with it in mint moment.
I returned my e&f ii inkwell today. They were sheer on me but oh so comfy. I can't pay $80 for lounging tights, though. I wound up exchanging them for a pair of currant grooves. I was surprised they still had them in store. All the new stuff is so "meh" to me. Last year at this time I was crazed about everything lll. Now I'm finding myself turned off by everything. I hope things turn around soon.
I was so sad that they changed the length of the Ebb and Flow crops; they're like pants on me! I think I'm going to return mine as they won't hem them :( These are my favourite crops ever, too bad they ruined it by making them longer.
It is a lot of money, I totally agree. However,I live in Canada. We have cold dark winters. I run 4 days per week, early in the morning. My last lulu jacket is 4 years old, so I easily got my money out of it. The running room has a new similar reflective jacket for $248 and it does not fit near as nice. . This jacket is flattering and stylish. And I don't think safety and visibility have a price tag, As we have had a few close calls when drivers say they didn't see us until the last minute. This isn't going to happen now:)
I had the exact same experience with those new luxtreme crops. Wanted to love them but they felt much more snug than the RFYL and inspires in my normal size. the Luxtreme wasnt as soft either.
I have to admit it... I bought a orange/inkwell item. The flow y bra :). I actually like the odd wild accent (just not ON mass like the shirts/ pants ). I figure I'll wear it under opaque tops and in the summer with a navy singlet and shorts.
I actually love the idea of the flare/inkwell pacesetter especially paired with a white, dune, or inkwell swiftly: but not owning those was happy to pass.
Have you seen/tried on the Gap's Ebb & Flows? Yes, Gap put out Ebb & Flows.
Wow, they are thicker, equally comfortable, a little bit shorter and of course, half the price. I only saw them in black in my store.
I have to say that Gap is my go-to now when I don't like what LLL is offering, or when I want to find the same colors at much better prices (not to mention typically better quality). I'm not a huge fan of Athleta, but GapFit has stepped it up big time over the last 2 years and if you haven't given them a try, you're missing out on a chance to supplement your LLL collection with some inexpensive, sturdy basics.
I too live in Canada. orignal comment at 2:46 pm and although some jackets from Lulu ARE worth the heafty price, many in the last 2 years, have been a waste of money. I read the reviews and most people say some of the overpriced jackets, are NOT worth the asking price. Thats probably why I pass on most Lulu jackets! Like that ugly black coat in WMTM with a hood. Looks like a fashion coat that went wrong. LOL... They wanted $300 for it and then it was down to $200 and now it's $130! LOL.... For a coat, like that, that's not very functional or warm from the looks of it, wouldn't pay more than $80 for it. Waste of money and material, for an item of clothing that barely keeps a person warm. LOL I don't know what Lulus design team is even thinking! :(
The Run Reflective Jacket is going to drop in price. The jackets always do. So if you can wait it out, wait it out. Then you'll have it for next season.
Maybe I'm alone, but I actually love the new length for the Ebb & Flows. If you're saying it's a 'crop,' please don't give me a knee-length biker short thing. The length on the first version was just awkward looking, sorry! That's my main issue with the Ebb & Flow first edition. Call it a biker short if it's that short on people. I haven't noticed sheerer material on the second version personally.
lla I like the fact that you created your own no limits with the 105F tank.
I am still sitting on the fence with the polar cream one. I have 2 of the old ones with the scalloped edges. I do like the silvercent material though so I will more than like get it.
M
I just wrote a review on the LLL site. I LOVE THE EBB AND FLOWS! This is my first time trying these, so I can't compare to the originals, but wow they are fantastic! They suck me in like crazy and feel amazing! And NO sheerness! NONE! ZIP! ZILCH! I bought the BLACK in my usual size. Wow, I'm so happy with these! Mind you, I'm 5'2 and they're pants on me, but as a shortie I'm used to that.
Anon 9:40,
What are the gap version of the "ebb and flow" called?
Thanks!
@Anon 12:40PM - I'm not the OP, but the Gap version of the Ebb&Flows are the GapFit Motion Capris ($50)
@Anon Jan27 4:31AM - GapFit also has a racerback tank (called 'Breathe') that comes in 'consellation blue' which, to me, looks sort of similar to a solid Alberta Lake CRB...
