OT: Kira Grace

Has anyone tried the new yoga clothing brand Kira Grace? It just launched in January by a woman who used to be an executive at Lucy. According to this article the material feel a lot like luon and is one thread away from lulu's blend. The tanks are pricey - $68 but that bottoms are in lulu's price range. Just wondering if any of you have tried it and what you think if you did.

I have not heard of this brand but recognize this model from the Lucy website--back when their clothes looked really cute online and not dowdy like they do now! Although I still like their clothes, it saves me a lot of money because I have moved away from any of their stores so I can only shop online.

So funny. Just as I saw the top picture and before reading the accompanying text, I wondered why this well known Lucy model was here, pictured on this site!
She was Lucy's main mannequin for several years, sort of what the blonde skinny model is to lululemon.
I am not familiar with the brand, but since I like Lucy very much and I'm a lulu addict, I should definitely try a few items out from this designer.

I have two of the leggings. Highly recommend...and great customer service. Love that I don't match everyone else at the studio when I wear these

PS. I just checked the link for the article and it mentions another yogawear brand: Tanya-b. Googled it and when to its website. This brand offers what looks just like coloured WU!! They have green cropped leggings, as well as a blue one very similar to Porcelaine. For $59
I need those green crops now!

@ anon 4:36 pm - how it the fit? Is it as flattering as lulu bottoms? Also, is the material about the same weight, wicking, breathability?

I hate mail ordering stuff and I want to find a local store. They are going to be at the San Diego Yoga Journal conference in a couple of weeks. I think they are carried at yoga studios but I can't find a link anywhere on their website that lists the stores. I emailed them to ask them for Orange County studios.

There is another interesting, made in the USA, LA-based brand called SOLOW. They have a joint venture with Free People for their new yoga line.

i see solow on amazon for 44.75 on the high waisted crops. 90% cotton 10% spandex - 47$ some tie dye leggies toow

Minda said...

solow looks super basic! - love the look of those watermelon kiras

LuluAddict said...

@ Minda - Yeah, I'm not interested in cotton workout wear but SOLOW has some nylon stuff - eclon, I think they call it. The Kira stuff interests me more since the tops are longer and they fabric is supposed to be like luon.

@Lulu Addict-regarding Kira Grace fit. Sizing is Xs/S/M etc instead of numbers like lulu lemon. I take a 4 in lulu lemon wonder unders and XS is perfect for me in kira grace. I think they are maybe a bit more flattering than lulu lemon because the rise is just right--not too high and not too low. I have the warrior crop leggings in the jade color and the fabric is maybe a tad thicker than luon and absolutely NOT sheer. I haven't tried the tanks at all so I can't comment on the fit of those ones. Also, if you message you will get a personalized response from Kira herself (at least I did when I had questions).

@ the person regarding Tanya-b. I tried their crop leggings and the fit was great but they were see through in the rear for me when i bent over! i was sad about it but had to return. I tried them in the pink color.

SO funny, I just ordered these leggings in the teal and watermelon and the warrior bras as well this morning. I read an article about them a few months ago touting different yoga brands and when I saw these leggings in my inbox today I said I had to give it a try. I will report back .

@ LuluAddict -- more from anon regarding Kira grace leggings. I also have the warrior knee capri. these are a different fabric than the warrior capri legging (shown in your blog picture). The fit is really amazing. But they are a much thinner nylon blend and because of that they are much cooler, but they also sort of border on being a bit sheer. Mine are alright but I could see if you're between sizes or perhaps built a certain way that you'd need to order up in the knee capri to avoid see through. hope that helps!!

We sell Kira at my studio and she takes my yoga class:)
It's very nice quality. The tops are super cute, but I haven't personally worn one. I really like my power Y tanks. Colors are vibrant and the quality seems superior to other brands- Athleta, Nike Lucy, etc. The tights, kind of like Wunder unders, are very thick and hold you in in all the right places. I'll have to branch out and give a try. Difficult though because I haven't officially broken up with Lulu yet, but these recent quality issues are crap.

I'll have to ask around to the women who wear Kira's stuff a lot, about how it's holding up to washing and wearing. I'll report back.

OT- Here is a reply to a feedback left but someone asking why they changed the gusset ?

"Thanks for your review, Pucci. Our designers are always looking for new ways to innovate our product. From wear testing and feedback about wanting a more discreet gusset, the designers decided to go back to our original triangle gusset. Thanks for sending your feedback our way, I'll be sure to pass it along for you."

IMO: It's all BS. I don't think they really care if we have CT....

That purple tank is darling! Does anyone know if the shelf bra has space for cups? Or does it come with cups? I literally am smuggling raisins (I would like to thank my kids for that) and needs cups or have to wear a sports bra that has cups. Without it I look and feel like a 12-year-old boy. If this tank comes with cups I would looovvveeeeee

@ Jek - thanks!

@ anon 5:49 pm - I messaged the Kira Grace website earlier asking if they had a list of studios in my area that carried the brand so I could see it in person (they did not) and the message was signed as "Kira." It's kind of a kick to think you are getting a personalized answer from the founder of the company.

Of all the other brands I've tried I think Zobha and Margarita are the closest in terms of fabric that feels/holds you in like luon.

We have another brand rival to lululemon in Southern Ontario (Canada) it is called "Titika". It was started by 2 design students and the designs and customer service are incredible...

Ok that model gives me hope that my 32F boobs might actually fit a tank with a shelf bra! Love the back on the purple tank you posted.

Jek- looking forward to your update!

I recently ordered the Warrior tank from KiraGrace and it was so refreshing to walk into the studio and not be wearing what everyone else is! Her clothing line is beautiful and performed well as far as wicking perspiration and comfort. Kira herself messaged me personally regarding a question I had and I have to say it was awesome to receive a quick personal reply from Kira herself! A pleasure to purchase, wear, and receive EXCELLENT customer service unlike Lululemon!!

@ anon 7:57 pm - I know - it's nice to see a busty model for a change. Check out the photos on the Kira Grace Facebook page to get an idea of how the clothes fit on non-models.

OMG I'm so cheating on Lulu for some of these amazing Kira tops!! Thanks for passing on the info!!

Okay, so I was checking out the Kira Grace line, and a lot of it is too intricate for crossfit (too many straps or seams, etc), but I LOVE one thing:
She has different fits for different body types! That is very cool. I've got a muscular, athletic build (thank you, Olympic lifting at crossfit!), and often Lulu jackets and pull overs are too tight in the arms and across the upper back. I always feel frustrated b/c I feel like Lulu should recognize that many of their customers are quite muscular (after all, they do create clothes for athletes), and it looks like Kira has addressed this! I am quite petite- size 4 in Lulu, but I've got some muscles. Great to see that someone is differentiating between athletic body type of a crossfitter and the more lithe athletic body types of yoga enthusiasts and runners.

Kira has a 15% instructor discount, too. You can write to them for info. I just set mine up and plan to order something soon.

Maybe a little OT, but, since we are talking about other brands...

Has anyone tried anything from www.lolewomen.com? The price is about the same or a little more reasonable than LLL, and looks like they have free shipping BOTH WAYS!!!! Zappos have some Lole stuff(on sale!), too-

Would love to know how functional their garment is, and the fitting, and so on.

I was behind someone wearing the Tanya-b leggings yesterday in a flow class. I was envious of them when she walked in, but I could see the sweat changing them color. I'm avoiding them now :'(

I first heard of Kira Grace when I went to Kathryn Budig's workshop. Kathryn was wearing the crops pictured in the post and ironically so was the woman in front of me. They look stunning in person and I'm dying to buy some. I've heard many great things about the product at Kira Grace. Particularly that a portion of the proceeds goes to a great charity that empowers women.
Considering that lulu's quality has gone in the crapper, I may buy these on my next paycheck. (That says a lot coming from a lulu employee :))

I would love to see another review or two of other, related brands like FP Movement, Solow, or Lole! Especially given all the quality issues with Lululemon lately.

Sorry that this is really late.
Just for those who wanted to know how the quality matches to lulu

I bought some kira grace tops after reading reviews from this blog.
Got to say I loved the designs - bought the T back bra top in watermelon and the jade sexy goddess tank.

I wear a 6 in all my lulu tops
so s is ok.

The sexy goddess tank strap at the back came quite high up to the back of the neck took a bit of getting used to.
The material is much thicker than my lulu power Y, ?whisper tank (ok sorry my lulu collection dates back to like 2008). but is comfortable.

Hasn't bled yet, but sadly I think my new goddess tank started piling :(

I'm not sure if it is my washing machine or the way I launder my clothes. But yup fuzzy stuff has appeared on the surface of the tank. It's not too noticeable but I figured I should mention it for those who would be making a $68 investment for those tops.

:) How were your buys from KG@luluaddict?

Kira Grace is supposed to send me a couple of things to check out but it hasn't arrived yet. I've been checking the front porch eagerly every day but not yet. It's supposed to be coming this week.
