SeaWheeze 2017 Sold Out In Under An Hour

So, lets hear the war stories. Did you get in? I don't think the waiting room system worked correctly since I was never able to get past the checkout screen and I got to that screen many, many times on several devices. I was trying to register for my nieces and nephew. Thank goodness I had a friend with luckier fingers and she got one niece and my nephew in. SeaWheeze very kindly offered pre-registration for legacy runners yesterday so my sister and I are registered for our sixth SeaWheeze.

Update: We have a large Facebook group for SeaWheeze runners. Lots of good advice about training, where to stay and eat ,and you might be able to find a roommate, too.

Update 2: If you had a payment processing issue you may have some good news in your mailbox:

I didn't try as I was working at the time of registration. I ran SeaWheeze the last two years and was disappointed I didn't get contacted for the early registration.

The registration process this year was just as stressful as last year, but I got in both last year and this year, so I am happy! My sister and husband were also able to register this year! We got in on two iPhones and an iPad. All the laptops we tried did not work and more than an hour and a half later, 9one of the laptops is still in the "waiting room".

I'm skeptical that they offered it to *all* legacy runners (because I've run it every year. And they didn't offer it to me). Everything I've seen makes it appear that they offered it to a select few visible "legacy" runners.

Hi luluaddict,

I did not get in and am really sad. I had two browsers on my mac in the waiting room, and my cell phone on the eventbrite app at exactly 10am on the dot. I entered all the information in eventbrite and pressed register but the system rejected my credit card information which was correct. I then was given 3min to update my information so I tried 4 other credit cards and even had a friend on a separate phone try to register for me.

The computer with the two browsers in the waiting room never made it past the waiting room, while eventbrite kept rejecting all the different credit cards on my cell phone. My friend was so confused she looked up her own credit card information while I did as well to check if anything was overdrawn and our credit cards were fine and the information was correct! It was so depressing. I think the eventbrite app crashed or something because the way it reacted made no sense to me.

If anyone has a bib they would like to transfer to me, please contact me. I run with chasingNewport run club and go with my friends from there and am willing to pay registration.

For those that got in, congratulations! It is a remarkable event.

Registration stunk! Of the five of us trying to register I was the only one who got a spot. As many have written on the SeaWheeze Facebook page there was a problem with the credit cards. My one friend who got as far as picking out her shorts couldn't get past the credit card error. So frustrating.

I was also lucky to register as a legacy runner, having run each and every Seawheeze. I tried to register a friend today and ran out of time! (totally my fault). Now that I'll be 6 years in I guess its a tradition!

For those that didn't get in, there are tons of other cool races! Just google and you'll see :)

I was the opposite. Couldn't get in on my iPhone but got in on my desktop after refreshing for about 10 minutes. Once I got into the registration page, it was straightforward. I didn't have credit card issues like a lot of people seem to have had.

I didn't have any luck last year but I was more prepared this year. I got through on Chrome on my laptop as well as the Eventbrite App on my phone. Myself and two others at work (I had helpers) were on Internet Explorer and none of us got through on there. I got the payment error that a lot of other people were getting and timed out on my phone so tried to get through with a different credit card on my laptop and it worked. It will be my first time at SeaWheeze. I'm so excited!!!

This year was definitely the most stressful of all the registrations I have done for SeaWheeze. 2017 will be my 4th year running with my husband. I was able to get into registration fairly quickly initially but had the problem that many others did with my credit card being denied. I tried 2 times then tried a different card and just as it came up denied as well my time was up. Needless to say I was PISSED! My mom was able to register my husband and I almost gave up but decided to refresh my browser a few more times and was ultimately able to get in and register successfully. I am definitely excited as SeaWheeze weekend is usually one of my favorite weekends out of the year however I feel that every year the expo line gets worse and my excitement for that aspect is definitely waning. I wasn't impressed with the prints this past year and only came away with a pair of socks after waiting in line for hours and hours. I know I told myself that next year i'd skip the expo but...FOMO- it ain't no joke...

I got in on two devices-laptop and iphone, right at 12:00 (CST) without issues. I just refreshed the page right when the clock struck and it was slow to load but everything went smoothly! This is my first time but I have really dreamed of doing this (When I was losing weight and first heard about Seawheeze it motivated me to start running in hopes that one day I could go!) so I was incredibly excited :)

It was offered only to those who have run every year since the inception of the race. Not anyone who has ever run

I got through almost immediately on my iPhone, but also had the credit card issues like many others. It ended up timing out on me even though I tried 2 credit cards (and I have one of my CCs memorized so I know everything was correct!). I got lucky and my coworker was able to get in from her phone so I was able to successfully register myself at about 20 minutes after the hour. I got in again around 40 minutes after the hour from my desktop to try to register a friend, but she didn't get back to me in time so that one timed out.

This is the second year in a row that I was able to get through from my phone, but not my computer. I wasn't even using the Event Brite app (it wasn't showing up at 10 am CST) so I went through the normal mobile browser and was able to register. Seems strange that most people had success through their cell phones - any techy people have an explanation for that?

I was never able to make it past the "waiting room".

@Jurema - So, there is a big SeaWheeze Facebook group ==>
https://www.facebook.com/groups/seawheeze2015/

People who can't use their bibs or don't want their shorts sell them in there. They are also allowing bib transfers this year, starting in January.

Was put in waiting room on laptop and two browsers on desktop. I got in immediately on my phone and skipped the waiting room. Then one card was declined 3 times. Tried a second card and it was declined too. Tried to grab and enter a third but my time ran out and I was booted. Then I sat in waiting room on my phone and the laptop and desktop wondering why I was apparently maxed out on all cards (but more worried about the race hah!) and got in again on my phone at 1:08. Put 3rd card in and somehow got through. Boyfriend kept getting booted on both his computer and phone. I somehow got in from waiting room on a laptop at 1:16 to enter him. Fourth card was declined once and then went through. So my boyfriend and I are both in (me for year 2, his first time). Checked my email and one of my declined cards went through despite error message, so I'm apparently registered twice. Will be selling accidental second registration at face value with shorts once official transfer procedure comes out. Lord was that stressful.

First of all, I didn't know they had preregistration for legacy runners. The website was a mess. Started trying five minutes before 10 and when I did get through it said it was unavailable but kept trying for 20 minutes and got it but my friend didn't. Maybe they should switch to lottery system to avoid the craziness. I'm scared what the expo lines are going to look like next year. This will be my fourth Seawheeze, did years 1,2, and 4. Looking forward to it

Every year they seem to have major issues with registration for this race. I've experienced very busy registrations before with Disney races. Maybe they should switch to using Active, which is what Disney uses. The waiting room did not work at all this year. Last year, it worked for the desktop users but pushed the mobile right through so desktop people got hosed.

This was SO stressful! Like others have said, I had the credit card issue error as well. I was booted out because the time ran out. I thought I wouldn't get it in but i tried again and somehow made it through. I had a phone, my Ipad and desktop open. It only worked both times on the phone via the app.I never even made it to the registration page from the other devices. LLA you are SO lucky you were able to register early.

Anonymous said...

And again I say. I have run every year since inception and the option was not offered to me. Thanks.

SO disappointed!! I have registered for many other types of races. Saddened as my friends all got in.
My experience: I tried at 10:00 sharp, waiting for the scroll as I clicked the submit button, and then got timed out. Refreshed the page a million times on three different devices for 40 minutes, which, at times would show the registration button and then once clicked, open a text box saying the action was not available.
Arghh. Pretty frustrated way to start the "Lululemon Zen" experience. Anyone have a spare entry??

I managed to register, but it was dicey. I got nowhere on my desktop computer - clicked the link repeatedly and kept getting a mostly blank Eventbrite screen (and freezing up). Then I tried with my iphone and got right through to payment, where various credit cards were declined even though the info was correct. Like others, I eventually got kicked out because my credit cards wouldn't process and I ran out of time. I decided to give up because I was so annoyed...but after about ten minutes of fuming and telling myself it was not meant to be, I tried once more on my iphone just for kicks and it all went through no problem. I never saw the waiting room. I'm surprised they haven't come up with a better system by now. This will be my 4th Seawheeze and each time I've registered it has been a total gong show (and I say that even though I've always managed to get through in the end).

Registration was definitely stressful. Was able to register myself and a friend. Not sure how it worked, but it did, even though I was shaking and ended up creating a new eventbrite account in seconds and didn't know what was happening barely. I wonder if they will offer early registration next time to non-legacy runners. None of us can go back in time and become a Lea-Sea... I totally do NOT think it should be a lottery. No way. A lottery would be ridiculous.

I didn't get in this year despite logging on at exactly 10am and refreshing for half an hour. I had to stop trying to get back to work. I do live in Vancouver though so maybe I will volunteer as I have for the past five years. It will be strange not running it after all these years of running the Seawheeze!

Anonymous said...

I was off today for other reasons. I knew about the sign up date but I completely forgot about it. I am actually very glad. It's fun to run it but I don't need to do it every year. There are so many phenomenal races that you can run in Vancouver and BC altogether.

Plus, who needs the hassle of trying to register for this thing. They should totally move to a lottery system (have got into other major races that way). I love that: you register for the lottery, forget about it, and if you come up, you come up. You get notification of a window of time to register, done. Very organized and...grown up, might I add.

@anon 3:30 pm - If you ran every year under your own name, not a bib in someone else's name, and finished all of them then I would contact SeaWheeze. They can look you up in their results system. If you changed your email address the invitation may have been sent there. We have a LegaSea SeaWheeze group on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LegaSEAWheeze/ There was a woman in our group whose name changed because of marriage but she was able to get an invite.

I wasn't anxious about registration this year, as I got in the last two years with no problems. Eventbrite set me straight. What a horrible, stressful experience. I had my desktop, laptop, ipad, and iphone set up. The desktop and laptop went into the waiting room, while the other devices hung and never got past the initial screen. After about a minute, I got into the form on the desktop. I was thrown off by the fact that I was no longer signed into Eventbrite, which I made sure to do prior to 10:00. So I entered in all my info, checked to make sure my payment info was all correct, and hit submit. The card got rejected twice, so I tried two more cards, which were both rejected repeatedly before I ran out of time and it booted me out.

I figured, that's it, I'm screwed, but thought maybe other people had the same issue and tickets were getting released, so I kept hitting F5 on both computers. Got into the form on the laptop and had the exact same thing happen with the payment rejections until it timed out.

Fortunately, my mom saved the day and managed to get me in using her card. I was too frustrated and stressed to feel happy that I got in. What a total cluster F. I feel terrible for those who weren't able to get a spot due to the apparent payment processing glitch. :(

So now people will have chance to register...so wondering if they are increasing number of runners or if after everything settled and all the declines that they realized they didn't fill up to capacity if they add more runners they better increase the merchandise for sale....lineups will be bigger than ever

Very angry, kept telling me I had payment issues even though I used 2 different cards. Then it sold out in 6 minutes!

Joanna Bach said...

I got in without any issues on my desktop first and entered all my info (with shaking hands mind you, so stressful!), and finally got in after some processing. I didn't have any credit card problems like a lot of other people I know had. Relieved to have it over with!

This was my first year attempting to sign up and it was surprising easy. Went to eventbrite 5 minutes before the release and refreshed a few times until it was live. I used my iphone and purposely avoided wifi (was out running errands) as the cellular network seemed to run faster. Also used my Amex and not my visa (which had been previously declined when trying to reserve things in other countries). I'm sorry to hear about everybody's frustrating experiences but it wasn't all terrible.

It is way to hard to get entered! It sux!2\\

I didn't even try.
Left my spot open for someone who really wants it.
I ran it last year and liked it but definitely not enough to do it again especially after the price increase and that finishers corral mess. Seemed like they're just phoning it in now.
There are better races with better swag out there (thank you, Flying Pig). The Detroit Half is still my all time fave run, way better than Seawheeze IMHO.
But happy for those who got in, have fun folks!

good grief. enough is enough people... don't bother with this super stressful experience. use your money on an awesome weekend getaway to the location of your choice and run 13 miles while you are there.

Today is Thursday, so I browsed WMTM, and selected two items. I put them in my shopping bag, then I read the feedback. OMG, what is going on with Lululemon? Never have I read so many negative comments on new merchandise! I know people do complain, and I'm prepared for a few negative comments. I have been buying LLL for 27 years, and I generally have an idea when to read between the lines. When the majority of commenters state that the clothing falls apart, pants are see-through. seams unravel, fabric gets holes and pills, the mesh is itchy, the waist band rolls and pokey, or it runs too small, I accept it as valid criticism. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything. It doesn't make any sense if I can't return it.

P.S. I'm not a runner, therefore I'm not interested in signing up for Seawheeze. But I did read the horrifying comments about signing up. There's no excuse for any company to not get prepared for a lot of people trying to sign up all at once on their website. Hello, it's 2016! My sincere regrets to all those in our little community that tried and didn't get in, and got all frustrated...

HI fellow addicts,

I've got an OT question but I need your advice.

I'm headed to San Diego (from Canada) for Christmas and need to know what to pack. We will be outside 24/7 running, surfing, and doing beachy stuff. Tips? I usually only pack lulu stuff for travel since it doesn't need ironing and all of my pieces coordinate well, so if you want to suggest specific Lulu items, that's helpful!

TIA!

Glad I ran years 1 & 2 before the hype blew up.
I read all your stories and this sounds like a complete nightmare. I wouldn't even want to try and register again reading these stories. NO THANKS, I'll stick to keepin'n it real trail runs. I love Vancouver but I hate hype overkill, takes the fun away.

Also totally agree with you anon 6:31 PM, especially on the "hype overkill". Getting really tired of all the LLL hype tbh.

if they allow all those whose credit cards didn't go through, are they counting them as part of the 10,000 participants, or is the number of participants going to go way up?
