Upload - Are We Back in 2012?

Depression, er, Belle LS. This top looks perfect for those days when I don't want to leave the house and just want to binge-watch Netflix on the couch.

What a suckfest of an upload - a bunch of boring, drab, cheap-looking crap. Hang on for more...Or don't. It's not really worth it.

Back At It Tank. I don't know why it doesn't come in a 12.

Back At It Again Tank. No 12 in this either. Oh yeah, and great modeling.

Sculpt It Singlet. So blah, and it, too, doesn't come in a 12.

Sculpt It Tank

Like Nothing Tank. This is the only thing I semi liked, but it doesn't come in a 12 and it only comes in Slate and Black. Yawn.

Ceremony Pullover

Belle Jacket

Both Ways Bra

Fast As Light Bra.

Is this the level of "detail" we can expect on the designs from now on? Some dorky scalloping? This looks like a Home Ec project.

Fast As Light Muscle Tank

Bordeaux Sculpt It Crops

Sculpt It Tights. I really hate these.

Spray Jacquard True Red Wunder Under Crops

One of the few decent items in the upload - Deep Indigo Define Jacket.

Dots Festival Bag

Go Go Go Tote

Yin Time Bag

I don't know about you but I feel like I've been transported back to 2012 when I used to rant about the cheap-looking and boring designs Christine Day put out. Has she secretly come back? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, lululemon!

My wallet was safe. Anyone order anything?

I'm compiling my list of things to wait for on WMTM! I'm not paying $64 for a bra or tank. End of story - Thursdays are my new upload day :)

Anonymous said...

I loved your comments, LLA, and agree with them. The tanks/singlets all look way too short for me (I have a long torso, and even though I'm only 5.5, the tops fit me almost like on the models). The Canadian prices are shocking! Shocking! Will not buy at regular price, not even when this crap goes to WMTM for $9 off.

Anonymous said...

WHY are the lengths of all these tops so short? Ugh. This was by far the worst upload this entire year. Drab colours, drab designs, heightened prices. Lame.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 4:32 pm - so true!

@ anon 4:37 pm - the shortened lengths seemed to be a signature Christine Day move, too. I forgot to mention that. The Canadian prices are ridiculous - $68 for a luxtreme singlet. I'm just going to hoard my older ones that are way cuter and have nicer design details.

Sara said...

I do like the grevy color and the mauve, but h-to-the-no am I paying $64 for a singlet. I'm only excited for WMTM lately...the prices are getting out of hand.

I just left a comment on Lulumum's website about the way Lululemon has changed for the worse -- the fabrics are cheapen, this upload is drabby and not to mention their distasteful website which I absolutely HATE to use! I do not trust their fabrics anymore -- the last item I ordered was the heathered bali breeze swiftly l/s and it looks like it has 'runs' on the shirt and it feels polyester-ish!!! I have more Lululemon then you can imagine, and this makes me grab my old tried & true LLL clothes. However, I am shopping on e-Bay for the vintage stuff that I did not get. I may pay more for NWT's but at least I know what I am getting with the older stuff: decent fabrics that were functional and fashionable wherever I go!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Lululemon has lost its magical touch that made it special. The feminine details in the clothing have been replaced by uninspiring designs. Definitely not what it used to be.

SW24 said...

Wow.. Usually I like things or they just aren't for me. The things in this upload actually bother me, I hate them so much. Those seems are horrible. Between the pantie hose and the gaping seams I literally can't help but laugh. I would never wear half of this stuff out of my house. Ugh, rant over.
I do like the belle jacket. Although I'm not paying 158 (138 retail plus tax) for a "lightweight" jacket... Sorry. And I must admit I liked the scalloped edges on the both ways bra. But I hardly consider that exciting. I feel like those small details should be on all Lulu products. I much prefer the classic look over the "trendy" seams and mesh.

Anonymous said...

I agree I like the Like Nothing tank and the Define Jacket, but there's certainly nothing exciting to see tonight or anytime recently.

Anonymous said...

I do love the laser cut scalloped details. But this upload was totes whatevs. I'm good on everything. Thankfully because I've spent a s***load on lulu lately. Not necessarily new though. Newest things I've bought were fatigue aligns, tuck n flow from Aus, pure practice pants in grey and black, black goal crusher tank (that was cute) and last black n white free spirit tanks. My white beyond boundaries crops lasted one wear before the laser cut panels turned yellow, ugh.

janine57 said...

So agreed. Lulu just has the inflated ego anymore. They fancy themselves high end couture like Chanel or something. The real reason people bought it was because it was cute, Functional, colorful with cute feminine details. They want to be a status symbol so bad. It's sad. It's not about the clothes anymore.

Anonymous said...

I am actually feeling really good about the changes. It has pretty much helped me cut out 90% of my lulu shopping addiction out. I pickup the odd WMTM item if it's a good deal. Other than that I feel great not spending on their items, instead I have made great purchases elsewhere.

Anonymous said...

Lol! Love the commentary! :) and totally agree on the prices. In case anyone is curious - I picked up a pipe dream blue speed short in store today, and they rang up as $49 (on markdown) instead of $44 or $39. :-/ hashtag dissapointed. With tax they were $54 - what speeds were just 2 weeks ago on full price

Anonymous said...

I may be the odd ball out, but I tried on fast crops and the belle items today and loved them!!
Mind you, I don't all like tight tops.... And the colors are so pretty!!!
Anywho, I al digging it... But the prices are KILLING ME THO!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yeah I hate most of it..... the short tops are a joke! They are doing it everywhere high waist everything and short tops...... I hate this fashion I refuse to conform...... i like long tops and i'm only 5'4" I think a nice long lean look just looks and feels right! My square hips do not look good any other way!!!!

Anonymous said...

Don't like all the mesh and definitely don't like this type of pantyhose mesh.

This must be the "innovation" we are paying more for. No thanks.

Anonymous said...

I don't like anything in this drop. I am not a fan of shorter boxier tops and these tanks are just more of the same boring designs with thin cheap fabric in boring colours with expensive price tags especially for us Canadians.

Anon. 4:52pm I agree with you about the price tag of the Belle Jacket but for me this is not a jacket so much as it is an overpriced l/s top with a full zipper. At this time of year to not give us a lightweight jacket with lining and thumbholes just doesn't make sense.

Anonymous said...

LLA, I love the candor of your comments and I agree.

Nada for me. Like other readers/customers, my LLL spending has significantly curbed, and not just recently. There is not that much that appeals to me. I refuse to pay the exorbitant prices, too. WMTM is also a more regular check-in for me but agreed, I won't be duped by a $3 or S$9 discount. It's only a matter of time. So much of everything has ended up on WMTM or MD in store and it does not move. Then, THEN they go and increase those WMTM prices. How dumb do you have to be?

As for the "new" direction: I guess we were warned that this is the direction they are going in--boring and expensive--while leverage the brand identity alone to drive sales, quality be damned. Potdevin thinks no one can compete and other brands charge the same or more for similar items, therefore apparently LLL doesn't have to work that hard.

What I find absolutely hysterical is that LLL keeps going on about their innovative designers and how they are more innovative than ever. Say again? What innovation? Although I get it now, it's simply LLL propaganda, putting the media and social media to work. Say it enough and new customers will believe it. Since they do not really know they think they are missing out.

Looks like my wallet is safe. Plain, boring and overpriced.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree, janine57, and it is sad.

Lulu these days is a combo of retread Nike & drab 1990s Prada.

kellidotca said...

I like the yin time bag.

Anonymous said...

The only positive thing I have to say is that I do actually like the scalloping on the red bra (but not the bra). As for everything else, I have no words... just hideous... and the prices are ridiculous.

My red CRB II came today. I like the colour, and I do like the tank, but the stitching quality is absolute crap (so many obvious flaws throughout the stitching). Overall it isn't worth $52.

I'm not even excited for WMTM anymore to be honest. I've been doing well waiting out things I had my eye on to end up on WMTM since after Christmas, but now it just seems like a slap in the face to see things there for what their old regular (and already high) price was just a week or so ago.

Jillian Vieweg said...

Is this a sleepwear collection? Who puts on any of these pieces and is excited and motivated to work out? I'm not sure who the woman that they are designing for is but it is definitely not me. I wouldn't buy any of this if it were 40% off at old navy.

Mega snooze!

Anonymous said...

Phew, thank you lululemon! Nothing for me :)! Prices are higher than I want to pay. Like those said above Thursday will be my new Tuesday ;), and even then I'll be thinking twice before a purchase! I liked the look of the high times pant in the fall colored pattern, but glad I waited to try them on in store as there were backed in white and looked terribly on. Fit was good otherwise, and if I sized up I could tell they would have stretched out and then be falling down. So Thanks lulu for making it easy to say "no". ;)

Anonymous said...

It appears they're trying to appeal to a different customer base. I haven't bought anything in a long time, and the last thing I purchased was a $34 WMTM bra. Most of my interest and $$$$ has shifted to Athleta, Nike, and Glyder, surprisingly enough. I use to order from Lululemon weekly. Glad to say my addiction has ended.

Don't like anything except the indigo define jacket. Honestly...for the time of year I want to see beautiful, bright colors. Haven't bought anything since May, and this upload was terrible. Not motivated to buy anything at all. What were they thinking with this?

Sam said...

I had a horrible experience returning the new Vinyasa and Swiftly with the new price to the Bethesda store in MD today. Person ringing up my return tried to refuse it because she said it was purchased in March. I was like, uh, I bought it ten days ago. It's red and has terrible sleeve holes. This was released this month. The person next to the cashier laughed and agreed it was bought in March. I pointed out ALL online order slips inverted the month and year. First cashier says "I have never seen this before, ever." I was like, uh, I order online all the time - THEY ARE ALL LIKE THIS. It was like the damn twilight zone. Both employees get snarky, rude, and actually begin snickering when I offer to pull up my email invoices, account online, or call Customer Service. One points to something on invoice, laughs, and other employee smiles. I asked what was wrong now. No answer.
After all of this - and two return transactions, when every other store I've been to can do one - they are almost done and the second person references "third day." I stopped.
"Is she training?" I asked.
The first employee/cashier says yes, it's her third day. She's even more rude than the first few times we spoke.
1) If you were training, why did the person next to you - who is obviously TRAINING YOU - not realize the dates on online invoices are inverted and tell you?!
2) If you were training, why did you insist, "You have never seen this before," if you just started working there?
3) Why is someone who is obviously so disdainful of customers training a new employee? Poor woman has no hope of succeeding or doing well when such a nasty person trained her.
After all that, I did look around the store. (They asked if I wanted to look before they did the refund. After how snarky and rude they were, I did have to answer - "No, since she just figured out she can do this, I don't want to take my chances." Oops.)
I almost bought the Yin bag that was on the upload, a Sculpt tank on Markdown, and Studio III pants. But then I realized I don't need to buy clothing from a store that obviously gives two shits about clients.
I wish I had just made the trek down to Logan Circle to return. Such a disappointing and nasty experience. I told my husband and he told me I better not order from the upload tonight. Don't worry - nothing tempted and so turned off at this point.

i like it - it's not flashy or anything but these are all simple, minimalist basics that will work forever and that are going to pair up with pretty much anything!

i particularly love the fast as light bra and the sculpt tank! gorgeous pieces that are timeless. and the back at it again tank is another one that is wearable in so many ways for many years to come! I also love the ceremony pullover! it will look GREAT with high times!

and i think the young woman modeling the back at it again tank looks great! i love seeing the tank styled in a unique way!!!!

Anonymous said...

I got the deep indigo define...my purchases are few and far btwn these days. For the new prices, I really have to love it.

I like the simplicity/minimalist look. Just gives us good colors and some nice, subtle detail. I do like the greyvy color. The rose blush color in the FTB Bra also looks nice.

I tried on the Sculpt It Tank and Singlet in the store. The tank just didn't look great on me. I'm sure it'll work for others. I found the singlet a little snugger than usual in my usual size 6. I'm an 8 in bra tops so maybe I should have tried the 8 in the singlet. I didn't. The deep indigo define was sold out in most sizes, including mine, in the store today. Came home with nothing.

Anonymous said...

So... Then I caved and ordered the aquamarine "love and light" scarf from wmtm! Well... At least it's on sale?? It's made of merino wool so I don't feel ripped off anyway...

Anita Leisser said...

Agreed - pretty drab and uninteresting. Dusty mauve is nice, but I feel it would show every cellulite dimple on my ass if I ever wore pants in that color.
I'm also all set with the whole mesh thing. It's enough. I had bought the Time to Shine pants but sent them back as the seams were coming apart after a couple uses. Now I have the Rise and Flow pants which I had to size down in, and I'm still on the fence with the scratchy mesh on the sides.

My wallet is safe. I'm waiting for a CRB in WMTM in black or other staple colors and that should be it for the next little while.

Not impressed by the prices either. I've never checked out Athleta but I might do so now.

Anonymous said...

Agree that most is crap, but I've come to expect that from Lulu now. I actually like the Sculpt It Crop, but no pockets mean no purchase.

Agree with the posters above, especially anon @ 6:03 who expressed it so well; this is a brand new company, and it's terrible. Designs are ugly, quality is horrible, and prices are way too high. The question is, will it EVER turn around? We need a new CEO and new head of design for sure. Maybe when that happens, there will be a chance, but I'm not even holding my breath.

Jessie said...

Wow! definitely the most disappointing upload since I started following the brand...and in following with the rest of the summer.

Anonymous said...

@ Jillian Vieweg agree with you! this does look like sleepover clothing.

someone said these are timeless pieces. I don't know about this, I like to have my workout gear fun and exciting and motivating me to work out. I would choose a timeless piece for office or dine out attire.
I mean, CRB was a timeless piece. and they canned that one. so much about timeless, classic pieces.

I have yet to order ANYTHING (from regular upload or WMTM) since the price increases went into effect. It's funny, on tuesday nights I have a standing date with my boyfriend, I have my glass of wine and order lulu and he gasps at the total. Last night he finally said "you haven't ordered ANYTHING in weeks, what's going on?" I told him to try and pick out ONE cute thing for me to order, aside from these mesh pants (which points to my theory that they were designed BY men FOR men's pleasure) he couldn't come up with anything. It's good for my wallet but what are we to do this fall if they don't come out with anything cute??
I know most of you have been into lulu for 5 years or more and have a healthy stash, but I only got into lulu a year ago when I started losing weight, and now my items from last fall/winter are 2 sizes too big! I've scored a few things from the outlets and BST group but I'm starting to get worried! It was bad enough when they replaced the studio pants (I can't even wear the III's with my bulky calves), I am genuinely worried that I need to find a new brand before fall :(

Well, this craptastic upload is one for the books. Such a dull, over priced drop in August. Like what in the actual hell? I guess we should have known that things would end up in the dumps. The Paris and Flash bleeding debacle was just the start (remember, it was PH balance issue! Eat ice cream, don't sweat! LMAO). And now look at the company. It's a shame. I have been buying Lulu since 2009 and am glad I didn't unload old stuff.

Anonymous said...

Ladies..... lululemon is not the same company.... Chip sold it and it is now owned and operated by others and yes some of the designs are maintained but mostly not! The fashion industry is the same as all other industries, they like it all to look the same...... nothing special! Until another start up comes on the scene..... then they get big and sell out and quality goes by the wayside as well as the uniqueness! Its the way of the SYSTEM...... Fashion is a machine industry like everything else..... coke or pepsi, democrat or republican, nike or lulu...... you get the picture? I am going to sell most of my lulu and move on I will still buy occasionally when i am so inclined but the addiction is GONE GONE GONE...... i am also happy about this.

Anonymous said...

This upload was really depressing. The colours, the styles...snooze. And the $10 increase for swiftlys is ridiculous. I noticed on WMTM, the pink paradise swiftly is on sale for $49...a dollar more than it's original price when it first came out. I think they should've kept the prices $48 for old colours...what a rip off. I asked about it in store and they said well, there's new technologies so we had to increase prices...yeah, but pink paradise has been out for months...silly. BTW, I'm in Canada and on a trip to Oregon, I stopped into Lulu and was actually surprised that the prices were the same. With the exchange, it made no sense to purchase Lulu in the States. Our dollar is low right now, if you're up here for a visit, I'd drop into Lulu, you'd def save some $. But if the new stuff continues to be all crap then nevermind.

Anonymous said...

The only items I got since the price increase on both WMTM and regular upload are the camo running skirt (has grippers and still old price), define that went to $79, crb that went to $29, mesh crop top/bra that went to some sale and became a regularly priced last year's item (know how it wears and love it a lot), and a regularly discounted tshirt for hubby and rulu dress for $79.....I am watching the prices and have my memory and math skills as ready as ever.....damages are also returned promptly (who knows when they make changes in that respect), and the rest of my buying energy goes to browsing Winners for heavily discounted athleisure, and chasing down unicorns on BST....
I love lulu, still think they are the best in terms of older stuff plus some tights and running skirts.....but the hoodies, skirts, pants, cropped tops, sweaters, etc can be found elsewhere much cheaper....plus, as many of you have said, my closet is quite saturated and I don't really NEED anything at this point....

Anonymous said...

I totally agree anon 6:03, well said! You hit the nail on the head, every time I read an article or see one of those videos (never used to, but have looked into the links that have shown up in the comments on LLA and LLM blogs recently) I think that is just what it is - Lululemon propaganda. They're a turn off, imo, they don't impress me, not even one little bit. All I get out of them is a sense of there being an over inflated ego behind it all. Also completely agree with janine57, well said.

Anonymous said...

I agree anon 8:07, I was confused by that comment as well. To me, these aren't timeless classic pieces, at all. I too like fun, cute, feminine and cheerful and that's what I want to see from Lulu. I love classic and timeless pieces, but I don't consider this crap to be that. imo, I think they're trying to be trendy here with this stuff.

Honestly, I don't give a hoot about what is trendy or any of that crap (sorry, just my personal opinion) that is in all the 'fashion' (brainwashing) magazines or on the runways. If this is the direction Lulu is heading, I know for sure I won't be following. I've never been a sheep that follows along with the herd anyway.

Anonymous said...

Dislike short shapeless tops, and the mesh and other details on those pants and crops just looks too precarious. I get nervous just pulling up my pace rivals or inspire tights, I can't imagine something that is like 50% mesh. I was never one to buy at full price, and even WMTM is becoming out of my price range. I have a nice collection now and may pick up a few things here and there, but for now I just look.

Laura P said...

I came to the blog to see what I missed during the upload because everything looked so blah. I guess I didn't miss anything at all!

Not sure about the slumps with Lulu lately. My most recent purchase have been Beyond Yoga and Alo. Ive had two pairs of new pants from Lulu have seams unravel after the first or second wear. I do a studio workout for 1 hour and then run errands. No way seams should be unraveling. I don't really complain about the prices, even increases, when the quality stands behind it. I appreciate Lulu repairing or replacing products that don't hold up, but it should be exception not the norm.

Just wait, next week will probably be some magical and amazing upload and I'll forgive, forget, and spend, spend, spend.

Anonymous said...

It is such a sad heap, that for a moment, I actually thought Ceremony Pullover said Cemetery pullover.

Anonymous said...

No, I don't think it could be turned around. I spoke with a supervisor regarding the horrible website several months ago, they took my name down, etc. They said they listen to all feedback and know a lot of customers are complaining about their website. As of today, nothing has changed. It is, undoubtedly, a new way that LLL is doing business. They know they are huge and have done remarkably well under Chip Wilson. But these days, I do not get the sense at all that they are really listening to the customers like they used to. The only way they are going to listen is if they are honest with themselves and the proof will be in their financials compared to the previous years. Because LLL is so huge, it will take time to really see if there are any losses. This is typical of what companies do: they get so big and financially successful because they started out small and cared about what they did, but then being big doesn't necessarily mean bigger profits. Just more headaches. Egos are egos!!!

I am so glad I got all the LLL clothes I need! I do not need another item, and in the event that I want a vintage item badly (better fabrics, not cheap), there is always e-Bay.

Anonymous said...

Replying to self... Order was cancelled by lulu today :(. Total bummer, was really looking forward to it. And, I find it terribly hard to believe in this day and age that they are unable to track warehouse stock properly. I have only had this happen to me with lulu (multiple times!) And, only one other time with one other store. Grrr!

Anonymous said...

@Sam 8:27 PM, not only unprofessional but downright juvenile of them. That is not acceptable from any retailer's staff.

Anonymous said...

ZZZZZzzzzz.....!!!

Pretty much sums up my interest in this and the other recent uploads. Loved your commentary, LLA! Yes, these pieces were created for the woman who has totallt given up on life! Wearing them would make me even more depressed, lol! As if the current electoral choices weren't enough! Now my formerly beloved source of feel good, almost instant gratification is gone too with its overly inflated prices, Ho-hum designs and poor quality fabrics! What's a girl to do?!

Anonymous said...

I hope you called to complain! Either to the manager or GEC? That is unacceptable customer service and I'm so angry for you that I want to call and complain!

Anonymous said...

I just so agree on so many levels with you all. I was just telling a friend today how massively DISAPPOINTED I am that NO EXCITING FALL wear has come out by Lululemon yet. What is this? While they are hustling behind the scenes to make a plain old tank top - others like Alo, Carbon38, Free People, and more are getting all of my attention and money. So disappointed, Lulu!! Maybe they will set off the fireworks later fall.

Anonymous said...

7:35 I am with you. I really dislike what lulu is doing at the moment.
for me they had their peak in 2010.
I have enough lulu to last me a few years so I am not too dissappointed. There are many other brands doing great stuff especially for yoga.
teeki, sweaty betty noli mika alo and others that have cool gear at lower prices than lulu.

M

GratefulMama said...

Sure, I like seeing the tops styled in new ways, too, but every single picture of that tank in both colors (lol both, for all three designs) only shows the back tied up like that. And that picture LLA posted with that dumb bra and her hair looks like it has a ponytail bump, it's just lame.
