Swiftly Prices Boosted in US and Canada

Swiftly prices just went up by $10 across all styles, on both the US and Canadian sides. This prices me out of all but the most compelling new colors. They're just too prone to snagging for me to justify $68 for the SS and $78 for the LS. I like Swiftlys for running but I like my silverescent circle mesh tops even better.

The Speed and Run Time shorts also increased, from $54 to $58.

Defines jackets in Canada are up to $128. What in the everloving eff?! That's so much nope right there. I love Lulu but they've pretty much priced me out from any impulse purchases (e.g. I used to buy all colour iterations of wee space or diamond jacquard because I loved them so). I'd like to say I won't be buying any more Lulu, but I probably will. The thing is, I'll be thinking over my purchases very carefully. Is the colour/print something I really love? Is the quality there? That's really the only way I'll be realistically buying any more. WMTM isn't really even a deal most of the time anymore - the sale price is the old regular price. Case in point, the defines...I'm not sure what direction Potdevin wants to take this company but it's the wrong way.

I'm getting more and more disgusted with Lulu--thinner, cheaper and less fabrics, higher prices, and poorly designed clothing, sigh!

@ anon 11:19 pm - I just that! And Scubas up, too! Both those pieces aren't selling that well at their current prices.

I found after last price increase, that sure I could spend more money on the items, but I didn't want to. I can spend another $10 on Swiftly top, but I don't want to. They did nothing to improve quality of items that are taking price increase. I am in business and we have price increases usually once an year, but not a price increase of 14%. Funny thing even when items come up on WMTM at old regular price, I don't want to pay the price they are asking. I bought my first pair of Alo from Nordstroms last week and think I will check out Atheltica. I own enough work out clothes but liked wearing LLL for casual and going out.

I think it's because their sale prices from $68 to $59 make us roll our eyes.
A lot of their sale prices lately are not a real sale for me (less than $10) to have a final sale piece.
I think my buying is going to really slow down!

The across the board $10. increase on all Swiftlies was too too much. The racerback is not a $60. item IMO no way no how and with the s/s and l/s over $70. and $80. with taxes I can't see myself buying as many as I used to. Look at how many of their printed Swiftlies in the last year ended up on WMTM. I bet they wish they had jacked the prices up before they brought out all the black ones. It's one thing to raise the prices that will deter a lot of customers from buying as much as they used to but I don't think they counted on loss of sales due to unhappy longtime customers.

Their prices seem so weird to me lately. When I consider my FAVORITE technical pieces, things like speed crops and pace rivals along with CRB's- those are all priced really reasonably- crops and pace rivals are only $88, but compare those with some of the "fancy" wunder unders like the dottie tribe that are upwards of $120 - I feel like there's no comparison, technically speaking, between the two and yet a SIGNIFICANT price difference.
I understand if lululemon's goal is to increase or change prices across the board, but maybe have some consistency? Maybe some technical features to justify the increase?
I'm disappointed that we saw the swiftly increase in price without the introduction of a better fabric or design- they ARE prone to snags and tears and even though I really like the tanks for running, I won't be likely to buy them anymore unless they're on WMTM.
On the other hand, I would gladly pay the $120 price tag for a great pair of rebel runners or a special edition pair of speed tights, something that REALLY performs.

UGHHHH price increase just before Seawheeze, too!! I love their stuff and it sure does last....just wish that it was made in the USA/Canada because other lines that are similarly priced are not made in sweatshops....

I'm with anon@ 11:19pm. I will be more selective with items I purchase at these prices. I doubt I will be purchasing any more swiftlies either since I didn't love the fabric to begin with (snags too easily) and I already have a good array of colors in the tops I do have. In other products, it will have to be a pretty amazing pattern or color for me to purchase. They haven't been putting out much that I "must have" lately.

can we please start a petition to bring Chip Wilson back please? I think it's about time. We can deal with his crazy antics later. First let's save whatever is left to save of Lululemon.

scuba's are crap now now side panels and no lined hoods, they are cheap cheap cheap!!!!! I love scuba II, hate the III! Yeah they ship the production off shore for cheap wages expand all over the world then they jack up the prices...... who's getting all that profit?????

Grrrr!!! I almost placed an order last night for a SS swiftly and back up pair of black speeds. I just never pulled the trigger. Now I'm so mad at myself!

@ anon 11:19 - yes yes yes! well said & I totally agree. I too noticed that defines are now on WMTM for their old full price. wth. and wmtm has 130 items. hmmm - I wonder why. its barely discounted. I remember the days when there were 20 items on wmtm & I actually felt like I was getting a deal.
in all honesty, they are doing me a favor - I don't need any more lulu.

lulu is just keeping up with other overpriced athletic wear companies. The Nike run store on 5th Ave NYC sells running crops for over 100$. Look at the Sweaty Betty website and see what they are charging for sports bras and yoga tights.
I agree that it is ridiculous. I am happy I have a nice collection of lulu classics. I don't really shop at lulu myself.
I just love reading this blog.

Seriously, even the WMTM prices are not really discounted so much. $64 tank tops for $54? Thanks Lulu . . .

Miranda said...

I wonder if the increase in price directed at the swiftly line has to do with the fact that they are so snag prone, and Lulu maybe was replacing/repairing too many of them? I don't know, I like swiftly a lot but I will stick to buying them secondhand from here on out.

Speed shorts at $58...I like Athleta's shorts lately better anyway. They don't do that weird flare out at the sides thing like the speeds and run times occasionally do after a few wears. And at $44 and $54 their shorts look like a steal now.

Anonymous said...

It's laughable. It doesn't matter whether or not we can afford it, the product isn't worth it! I hope people realize that! My stay on course crops from 2010/11(?) still look new. Speed tights from the past 2 years are falling apart. And Lulu wants us to pay more? HAHAHA! NO. I've purchase 2 items this year. 2! I remember setting my alarm for 11:30 pm uploads back in the day and making weekly purchases.

I have been a very loyal customer to Lululemon for the last 10 to 15 years as they held my interest for a very long time. I thought I could not get enough; a match made in heaven so to speak.

With their horrid website, I hate navigating through it; and, I rather come here on this blog to get the daily scoop anyway. Their cheapen fabrics with their not so friendly website and increased prices tells me that enough is enough! Also, I read somewhere that LLL claimed the new launch of their website was a success. I can tell you that that is a fat lie because I know for a fact that I am not alone in this! Also, have you noticed how much clothes makes it to WMTM???? This means they are saturating the market and the way to make up for it is with increased prices. Shame on Lululemon!!! I am buying less and less which in the long run is a good thing! The relationship is indeed over!!!

Done with Lulu. It's gonna be a serious consideration for me to buy Lulu ever again now. I've been revolted this year with all the cheap, tacky looking prints. I'm definitely holding on to what I have and making it last. Took out an old pair of yogi crops from years back and shock! no rolling waistband, no pilling, no cheap stitching, etc.
I've said it before and I'll repeat: what a lousy way to treat your customers!

I'm sure many of us read this interview, Potdevin calling for higher profit margins and predicting that companies that aren't in it for the right reasons will go away.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/07/22/lululemon-ceo-talks-candidly-about-looming-athleisure-bubble-chip-wilson.html

Look there are only so many people who want to invest in the 'best' atheleisure. Is he going for high margin, low volume? Cause this stuff is not selling out if he is.

I'll sign your petition!

@11:37 AM, I agree with you regarding the weird flare of LLL's shorts, and I have also been buying more Athlete in general. Their shorts don't flare out strangely, and I know if I have a problem, no questions asked and no attitude in returning.

Anon 8:09a.m. LOL I wil sign it! It was while he was at the helm that I fell in love with Lululemon 15 years ago and bought the best Groove Pants ever! Best material, never pilled, soft as can be and I am proud to say I still have them but retired them 2 years ago, talk about quality! Next purchase was my beloved Dance Studio Pants and Crops, BEST LOOKING COMFORTABLE PANTS AND CROPS EVER, then came my Groovy Run Shorts (still have and wear) and WUC (which I still have and wear). I am not happy at all with the direction management is taking this company. It's reputation for quality product & awesome design and detail is quickly going down the drain along with the loyal customer following, good job boys.

Ugh, there will be no answer justifying the price gauge. Remeber the whole we priced all the crops and pants the same to avoid confusion...(so take 22% off, dont add it) and then half the bottoms got a different price again. Instead of $72 they are $88 &$98. For the shorter crops with nothing special about them. Now the WMTM is the same price as the retail a few months have ago..do they really believe the buyers are gonna "well ok, I get it,and I approve." And keep buying? I'm curious to know how many have dropped off the Lulu train. I seriously bought 6 things a month for years. And now, nothing in months... btw I'v been hitting up LUCY, and when they have a sale they mean it. The website and store will routinely have an additional 30% off sale prices and they send out $10 thank you coupons every few months. I get tops for $12 and bottoms for $30 and I love them all. If I don't, I can return the sale items up to 60 days later...bye lulu

Anon 8:09am I agree!

Nobody I know in all of San Antonio to Austin wears sweaty Betty. I'v ordered their stuff and it's subpar to even UA..SB is a ripoff,so I wouldn't compare that to LLL even just for prices.

Mentioned this in my store today - apparently the switflys increased in price because they're 'more technical' now. I guess the material/yarn in newer colors is more durable and able to hold color better, and they're wrapping the 'silver' so the colors aren't as heathered looking. I just think the overall raises are ridiculous, and I should have stocked up before everything went up in price :P

Anonymous said...

As anon 3:36 said, I can pay the extra, but I don't want to. It will have to be an awesome color / piece for me to buy. I basically live in swiftly SS/LS (not a fan of the tank) over top of a CRB. If a color came out, I bought it. That won't be so anymore. The extra $10/piece really just leaves a bad taste for me. I run a business as well and WISH I could roll out that giant price increase!
It is also not lost on me that the prices go up soon after free returns come in.
I haven't bought much since the new website anyhow as the new suspended clothing as the main view does nothing for me. Absolutely nothing grabs my attention. Usually I check the upload looking for things that I see on here (thanks LLA!)

Anonymous said...

I got one of the LS and I love the feel of it. I may not buy as many, but I definitely won't stop buying them.

emily said...

I almost placed an order last night and didn't. I'll spend my money stocking up on the CRBs instead of buying things at inflated prices. I am considering returning my black Swiftly because it has snagged and pilled worse than any of my other Swiftly tanks. It's ridiculous.

I bought a cute pair of Reebok running shorts on clearance for $15 on Sunday. And they function perfectly well on my runs. I've also been stocking up on Champion bras at Target. Even at their full price of $16.99, it's a much better deal than any of the Lululemon bras anymore.

I did order the red Pace Rivals on the upload tonight. But, I figured at least those were still a somewhat normal price. And finally, a true red! I need a CRB in that color!

I remember the days when wuc were $72 and wup were $82...

$68 is way too much for an SS - no way. I thought that was too much for the LS. The price increases are a real bummer. I won't buy as much. Particularly as alot of LL stuff has niggly issues (LS swiftly sleeves too tight; running pants that won't stay up; sizing disparities). These issues with higher prices will just lead to a lot more returns under the warrantee. Or maybe they'll just get rid of that too.

I don't shop at Sweaty Betty bc I think the prices are outrageous. New companies will emerge. Especially if LL keeps screwing with the staples. The lines are usually too wierd and nonfunctional these days and the prints just look like Nike anyway.

I love that Potdevin predicts that companies who aren't in it for the right reasons will go away.... A classic example of how our words are mirror reflections...

Anonymous said...

Haha, anon 6:43 PM, yes! I was thinking the same.

Lol the other day I walked in to the store and sort of wandered over to the swiftlys and the second my hand touched the fabric here's the sales kid, "the silver in those tops prevent odor!" Blah blah. I'm like, "thank you for educating me!" I really feel for those kids. I would hate to have to approach people and announce unsolicited random tidbits of information...

Anonymous said...

Exactly, GratefulMama, that is the most annoying thing to me. I just want to be left alone to do my thing. I find it distracting. If I want help I know I can ask.
