So, did you get in? Jeebus, that almost gave me a heart attack. Contrary to the advice given on the Sea Wheeze Facebook page to use a desktop or laptop it turned out that the mobile app and iPads saved the day for most of the people who got in. There was definitely no going in order from the waiting room. From posts on our Sea Wheeze faceboook group it seemed like the race was essentially sold out by about 13 minutes in. It was officially declared sold out around 10:30 am. The latest post I saw a person who got in came in around 10:25 am. My sister and I had our laptops and desktops refreshing right before 10 am but got put into waiting room hell right away and ended out timing out in there. We switched to the Event Brite app by about 10:02-03 am and got ourselves in. We then got my older niece - it will be Sea Wheeze number four for her - in around 10:06 am and I got my nephew in around 10:08 am. I was getting this message for a few minutes until a slot opened up:
And I think I finished up with his entry around 10:13. My sister tried registering her last daughter around10:13 am and got the no inventory message in the middle of registering. It seems people randomly got in after about 10:09 when other people closed open registration windows until the whole thing was gone around 10:25 or so.
I heard of very few people that got in via laptop or PC. I had an iMac and MacBook going with multiple browsers and ended up in waiting room hell. My sister had non-apple products so that wasn't a discriminator. I also have nicely fast internet access and we were working from different states.
Oh yeah, and this will hit hard for those that didn't get in - I read one very sad post from a legacy runner who did not get in - last night at 6 pm, lululemon had a special registration event for one hour for employees. Rumor is 1500 slots - 15%! - were set aside but not all were used. Update - reading 700 signed up. So, nicely done, lululemon - nothing was done for legacy runners but employees didn't even fill the slots set aside for them. I'm hoping these are some sort of hedging slots to cover the 25% no show rate the race typically has but I believe permitting restricts lululemon to only about 10,000 runners. So, maybe they can only officially sell 10,017 slots but the actual bib number exceeds that. I looked at the bib numbers last year and they went into the 12,000 range, though the 11,000-12,000 range was not used.
Tell us your story - did you get in? What devices did you use and what time did you have success? If you were on a desktop or laptop and got in did you even pass through the waiting room? I am dying to figure out how this worked.

Made it in from my work PC from my home ISP in Kentucky. Refreshed at noon (central) and did not get put into the waiting room.
I got in using my phone at about 10:15. From my computer I was immediately placed in a waiting room at 10:02 and then got kicked out. As I was registering on my phone, it let me in on my computer so it seemed that as people were closing browsers it was opening up slots. Next year will by my 3rd...looking forward to it!
I got in right at 10am on a PC. It took about 2 minutes for the full registration page to load (I was down to a little over 5 minutes to register) but managed to complete and submit it without a hitch.
Used my cell phone and app at 10:10, no probs. Couldn't get in last year but did it the year before. Super excited!!
used a pc, got into the waiting room right at 10:00 am and was able to register fine. was also able to register my boyfriend via iphone and i have to say, the process via phone was MUCH faster than pc, that's for sure. i'm not sure what made the difference but it did...
I got in using my laptop! My mom was on a kindle to get in and not sure about my sister, who also got in. I did get put in the waiting room while my mom got right through. I heard through the Facebook groups (after the fact) that most everyone had more success with phones/tablets. Wish I had known! I just assumed laptop would be the best. But it ended up working out :). This will be my first Seawheeze and I'm so excited.
I was using a Macbook. Clicked "Register" on eventbrite at 10 AM and immediately went to the waiting room. Eventually got redirected back to the main page claiming that there was no inventory. After clicking the "register" button a good 5 times and being sent back to the same page I finally made it to the page to fill out my info. THANK GOD. Frantically filled it out and got my confirmation. I was nearly in tears because while I was getting the "unavailable" page around 10:05 my friends were texting me saying they got in! They were both using their phones. Had I known that I would've used my phone since I was all logged into eventbrite and ready to go in the first place! UGH. 3 hours later and I think my heart rate is still up lol.
I got in using the app on my iPhone by some miracle! I was limited to my phone, otherwise I probably would not have tried the app. I had my husband try from his apple laptop, but he was immediately put in the wait room at 10 PDT. This also happened to two of my friends using their computers and they did not get in. I am bummed I will not be able to run it with them. The app wasn't the smoothest either. I kept hitting the pay now button, and I just kept getting the spinning wheel of death and nothing else signifying the transaction went through. After many rounds of this, I refreshed the screen, but was given the sold out notice. To top it off, my credit card company flagged the transaction as fraudulent, so I wasn't sure if the payment went through. Ugh! I was so heartbroken until a couple minutes later when I got an email confirmation! It was a lot of anticipation, nail biting and frustration, followed by sadness and then unexpected joy. What a quick emotional roller coaster! I just ran my first half marathon this past weekend and this will be my first Sea Wheeze! I'm so excited!
Ugh, so jealous! I did not get in!!! This would have been my 2nd race. I was on my MacBook and just kept refreshing! I was also trying on my iPad but failed as well. I AM SO MAD!!!!!!!!!
I used my desktop at work, and I didn't get in. I was ready right at 10am, but it took a moment for the "Register" button to even work. At that point, I started freaking out and grabbed my phone. As I was waiting for my phone to load the page, my computer sent me to the waiting room. I closed out of my phone (big mistake) and sat staring at the virtual waiting room screen for 8-10 minutes until I was booted out. I kept hitting refresh, but nothing worked. I wish I had just used my phone. One of my girlfriends who I planned to share a room with got in, so the trip just got way more expensive for her. It sucks! I'm hoping maybe they'll consider doing a lottery type registration, because this was just too crazy.
I got in from my iPad when I refreshed EventBrite at 10:01 or 10:02, no waiting room just straight to registration. My friend was stuck in waiting room for a long time then got the sold out message. She kept refreshing and at 10:24 got in. I'm so relieved- we had a great time in 2015!
I got in through desktop (pc) no waiting room, also got in through mobile on eventbrite no waiting room
Same experience for me! I had 2 browsers on my Mac open at 10am for me and my hubby. It took awhile to load the registration page and then it put me right into the waiting room. I quickly tried on my iPad and got to the registration page right away. Luckily I had another iPad and registered on that one at around 10:02. Both iPads successful in the mean time the Mac timed out of the waiting room and said sold out! It definitely wasn't first come first in!
Luckily my friend and I were both able to register but she went right to registration and I was in waiting room hell on two computers and four browsers. At 10:08am it booted me out and said not available. My friend had been registered for awhile at that point and we were texting about how to handle my not being able to register as I hit refresh over and over again. Probably around 10:20am I got the registration page and filled it out, hoping nothing went wrong. Wish I had known about the app, I would have been all over that!
I logged in right away at 1pm ET. Was out into waiting room right away on iPad and desktop. Got through in iPad but almost did not make it. When I was hitting the payment button the timer get going down but the page was spinning. With 15 seconds to spare, I was registered. So excited to run!! Looks like an awesome theme this year with hopefully great designs!!!!
Legacy here. Got in, and I also registered my husband. Two browsers (IE, Chrome), two iPads, three phones. Had signed into my Eventbrite account on all. Was using Safari, not the app on all mobile devices as well. Got in immediately on IE and on one iPad. Registered us both before 10:03. Got back in to register friends who were still in the waiting room, but they ended up registering and I let the spaces go. Let my last space go at 10:14 and after the clock ticked to 0, the screen refreshed with the note that it was unavailable.
Agree LLA with the reserved spots for eds, but not legacy runners. I'd like to see their segmented list of those who have registered and run or walked all four of the previous races. I'll bet it's less than the 700 spots that weren't taken by the eds. To those who are dedicated to traveling to Vancouver, spending our $$ in that fabulous city and completing this race each and every year from the get-go, offering guaranteed registration to less than 10% of the field would be a nice gesture.
Had to register both myself and my sister. Had 2 laptops and a phone and got in with my phone and MacBook!
I started refreshing at 9:58am PST on my work laptop (Windows based Dell using Google Chrome) and got in right at 10. Never went to the waiting room, but there were a couple of moments of spinning that nearly gave me a panic attack! I was fully registered by 10:03.
I am so excited as this will be my first time running SeaWheeze, and my best friend got in as well!! See you in Vancity :)
Registration was fairly gut-wrenching for me, and it was my own airheaded fault. At 10am, I clicked on the register link on both my desktop and laptop, and they both started clocking. The desktop then miraculously went straight to the registration form. No waiting room! Incredible. I filled it out, hit submit, and it kicked me out to the main page because I had EventBrite open in another window (oops!). My laptop was in the waiting room, so after recovering from a near heart attack, I tried on my super slow, four year old iPad and went straight into registration. My hands were shaking like crazy, but I managed to fill out the form and get registered by 10:07. So happy! I learned my lesson and will make sure not to have multiple browser windows open next year.
Congratulations to everyone who got in! The race is a piece of cake compared to registration! :)
Re: Bib numbers. I volunteered at package pickup last month, and we were told that bib numbers in the 12000s were for BFDs. We were instructed to send those runners to the BFD table. I'm not sure how the BFDs get in, but I imagine that they must set aside some slots for them.
Had both desktop PC and Macbook laptop. Both went straight to the waiting room with the PC Desktop getting the registration page within 30 seconds. Just after I finished registering on the PC the Macbook got the message. I clicked refresh a couple of times till the "Register" key came back and then I went straight to the registration page. No problems.
I used my PC and refreshed right at 10AM from the eventbrite page. I was placed in the waiting room for maybe 2 mins and then proceeded to register. It will be my first SeaWheeze!
I'm really excited to plan my trip.
I feel like it would be cool if they had a official sponsored way of transferring your spot at cost to other people. I know people who sign up have life issue come up, pregnancy, injuries, lost of job, etc.
I also don't want to prompt people buying spots to flip them though for more money so I can understand how its a non-transferable ticket.
I got it! It took me about 6 minutes as soon as Eventbrite opened the registration. I held on and waited on what seemed like forever. Very excited as I have not ran a SeaWheeze Half Marathon before (newbie here)!
Had three computers going at 10 am and went straight to waiting room. Then pulled up the site on my phone and got in immediately. So weird, but I'm glad I got in. phew!
I got in right away from my desktop and then it kicked me out right as I was clicking "submit." I was then transferred to a waiting room in the 2 browsers I had open on my desktop. On a whim, I tried with my iPhone and it worked. My friend also got it to work on the iPhone. I had to refresh it a couple of times because they said no tickets were available, but once I got through there was no waiting room on the iPhone. Such a stressful registration process!
Got in right away on my iPhone after waiting in the "waiting room" in multiple browsers on my Mac laptop.
I had a browser open on my laptop as well as my desktop. I refreshed at exactly 10 am on both and the "Register" button came up on both. At first the button seemed like no matter how many times i clicked it it wasn't doing anything but eventually the desktop went straight through to registration page first. By the time i was finished i looked at my laptop and that too had gone to registration page but i quickly closed it with 4 minutes left to free up a spot. My mom registered my husband on a laptop and had the same experience as myself- no waiting room.
So unbelievably stressful but I'm just not willing to forgo this race....
I registered from my PC (google chrome) right at 10 a.m. and got in. No waiting room so feel pretty lucky!
I did hear you couldn't have two tabs open and that Eventbrite recognized it and would make someone start registration over. Did anyone experience that? What a bummer if you made it through only to be shut down and then it sold out. Eeeek!
I tried at exactly 10 & was sent straight to the waiting room. It told me not to refresh & I did feared losing my place in the alleged line, so I did not refresh.
Got thrown out of the waiting room at 10:13...
Super pissed. Especially to hear about all the people who tried after 10 am & got in. Don't get me wrong, good for them, but YOU SUCK EVENTBRITE. The waiting room is BS.
@ anon 3:25 pm - I hear you. I didn't refresh and my waiting rooms timed out on my computer at like 10:20 so I would have been up the creek. Meanwhile, I'm reading people who did refresh were able to get in. The sign up situation was jacked.
@Nicole - I think the key was to use multiple browsers.
I used a desktop PC at work using a Chrome browser -- refreshed the page at 1pm EST (10am PDT), got in right away (no waiting room) and spent 2 minutes debating which size shorts to get, and registered!
Used Chrome on my Mac at school in Kansas. Refreshed the browser twice to get in. Entry confirmed via email at 12:05pm CDT. I think it's reasonable compared to other hot events. (Hello, Marine Corps Marathon! "Next time" as always. )
I didn't get in. Was on my PC with 2 different browsers. Got sent to the waiting room at 1:01, and like the other commenter, followed the instructions not to refresh. I thought I was just in line to register! Finally got booted to the page that said registrations were no longer available at 10:14, and the other browser booted me a few minutes later. I kept refreshing and refreshing but the pages just kept saying that no registrations were available until finally the register button got greyed out--about 10:17 I think. I assumed that it was sold out and never even thought to try on my phone. Ugh. Was planning on running with a friend, who got in. From the SeaWheeze FB page, sounds like a lot of people had problems with not everyone in their group getting in. Why won't they allow transfers?
Well I have run SeaWheeze in the past and I am glad that I decided not to go through this hoopla this year. I was at work anyway, very busy, and only vaguely remembered. Even if I had tried it would not have been appropriate for me to be focused on this while at work, whether on a personal phone or work computer. Now I read about--yet again--the hassles and frankly, it's just too ridiculous.
Agree with someone else's comment on the lottery system. It's just a more respectful process as well. I've been through that with Nike and it was perfect, imho.
I realize people want the experience of the SW race and access to the store and the gear, but honestly, being in Vancouver (or BC in general) and running one of the many races there is an amazing experience.
@Julia - I had heard the 12000 series numbers were for VIPS (and maybe sponsors?). I thought when I looked at the bib numbers of this last race about 300 or so were set aside for the VIPS so to hear 1500 slots were set aside for employees seemed startlingly large. I can't believe the number of legacy runners has to be much more than 400-500.
I used Firefox on my desktop PC at work. I was refreshing the Eventbrite page at 9:59, and I saw the green Register button probably between 10:00 and 10:01. It sent me to the waiting room, so while that thing spun in circles, I opened Chrome. But then the Firefox page sent me through to the registration page, where it took me a couple minutes because I had to look up my emergency contact info. Then it told me I hadn't filled in every section -- I guess my Eventbrite login doesn't have my city saved (which is weird, because I used them twice last year).
Interestingly, my credit card texted me about the transaction while the registration page was still spinning. That text arrived at 10:05.
I refreshed my laptop, ipad, and iphone app(in that order) all at 1pm EST. My ipad opened up first and so I started using it, but 30s later my laptop opened up and so I finished up on that. My hands were shaking so I wanted to use a keyboard, lol. I didn't get stuck in any waiting room and by 1:05pm I had finished. Received my email confirmation at 1:07pm.
My friend registered using her work desktop. She also refreshed at 1pm but got put into a waiting room immediately. She was there for about 6-7 minutes but managed to register. She got her confirmation email at 1:13.
I then went over to the hotel pages and kept flip flopping on which room I wanted and let my cheaper priced room expire. I went back for the $285 room but it was sold out. So now I'm paying $80 more per night. The cheaper rooms for the Fairmonts by the water went FAST! This is my first Seawheeze AND first time to Vancouver so I'm okay with the higher price. It happened.
I used my husbands PC as I only have an iPhone and an iPad and it was recommended to use a PC over a mobile device. I clicked register right at 10 and was registered in two minutes. A few minutes later the confirmation email arrived. I never saw a waiting room but did notice that when the registration page opened the count down clock had already knocked off about 23 seconds.
Also I was checking out the SeaWheeze Twitter feed last night after dinner and noticed a woman had tweeted that she was registered for the SeaWheeze. I thought how if registration opens tomorrow at 10am??? So I checked the page to see if it was open early and it of course said not available. I then went back to see if I'd miss read her tweet and it was no longer there....makes me now wonder if someone had told her to take it down?
I didn't realize it was today !! So bummed! Congrats to everyone who got in! maybe I'll get in someday.
As soon as the time switched to 10:00, I refreshed the page on both my laptop and my phone. About 15-20 seconds later the register button showed up. I clicked on the PC first and got to the registration page about 30 seconds later. I clicked on my phone and it probably took closer to a minute to get to the registration page. I went through with the registration on my PC and didn't have any issues. I think I was registered by 10:04 or 10:05. One friend got in, the other did not. Glad I made it but now I'm getting stressed over making hotel reservations!
Super stressful. At 10am my husband and I tried to register each on our separate cell phones. The "no inventory is currently available for your selection" was up on both our phones. Then finally, I refreshed my phone and the timer went off for me to fill my information. I ended up registering successfully but the husband was not so lucky--and he is the tried and true serious runner/triathlete!!! I felt so bad for him. The orange "no inventory" message was on his phone until about 10:27 or so, and then he refreshed to a sold out!
Now I don't know how I'm going to get him in the race--I hope some slots open up later--my husband's on R&D, does demos for lulu, and wears lulu all the time. So bummed and super stressful and frantic. Our mornings totally revolved around this registration and we ended up both starting work at noon.
I had both my imac & laptop going & was put in the waiting room. I got one completed in a few minutes after sitting in the waiting room. The other said no spots available, but I kept trying. I finally got my son registered too. My other son got in right away on his phone, girlfriend did on her ipad, but many of my friends didn't get in using their desktops.
I'm a legacy and have run every Seawheeze. My sister has run with me for the past 3 years and it has become our thing that we do together. We love it and (despite all my bitching about lines) it means a ton to us. I registered us both last year without a problem and was hoping to do the same today. I took an hour off work to sit by my computers at home. I had a PC and a Macbook going and was refreshing both from 0957 on. I got the "register" button right away on the PC and tried to register us both but was only able to register 1 and freaked. Good thing I had hit register on the Macbook right away, right? Wrong. I got in this morning after almost having a heart attack on my PC but even though I hit register and was sent to the waiting room at 10:00 on the dot, the Macbook trying to register my sister, got kicked out of the waiting room maybe 5 minutes after 10. So I hit register again and after 20 minutes in the waiting room, was kicked out over and over because the event was sold out. I'm pretty pissed that people got in after 10:09am because that is when it kicked out my Macbook and told me everything was unavailable. I've run this race since the inaugural event BUT my sister and I have run it together since then and I am so ridiculously sad that we won't be running together this year. I am willing to buy ANYONE'S registration for my sister. I've heard there will be an ISO registration page this year? (Obvs not Lulu approved.)
Used a Macbook and clicked register at 10am and immediately & successfully got to the payment/information page!
An employee told me there was 10% spots reserved for them and they only had 1 hour to signup.
I got in instantly at 10:01am on my iPhone but my iMac and MacBook pro didn't get past the waiting room till 10:08am where I quickly registered my friends husband to help her out. That was a scramble to type info in with 22 seconds left on the clock.
I was sitting in Court with a hearing about to start (I'm an attorney). I had a friend at the office trying to register me on a PC. He texted saying he was stuck in the waiting room. I was able to get on my iPhone (no app) and register at about 10:02. My sister-in-law, who lives in Korea, used her Macbook and was able to get in right about the same time.
So glad we both got in! This will be our first one.
I could not get in on my PC, I clicked the button at exactly 10:00 AM. My friend who I'm running with got in with the app. I was able to get in on the app right after. If I would have kept trying on PC I probably would have failed. So happy to have gotten in but I feel terrible for folks who got in but their running mates didn't. I hope they open some spots up for those folks.
No wonder why people were having issues getting. Just think abou the number of people with many devices trying all to log into the same place at once. talk about bogging the system.
M
i did not get in and i was using a macbook. i wish i would have thought to use my phone. i tried right at 10am and got put in the waiting room and never got a spot. super bummed because my running partner got in.
@Lar Par - join that Facebook group I linked to - Sea Wheeze. That is a great source to find bibs. As a legacy I'd also try appealing to lululemon directly and begging for an entry.
LLA, which FB group are you referring to? Sorry, I couldn't find it...
