My OOTD for a run at the gym - Sculpt Tank and Runday crops. |
I took the tags off my new Pigment Wave Multi Sculpt Tank and wore it for a three mile run at the gym yesterday. I tried on the Sculpt tank a few times in the past and never really loved the look of it that much. However, there is an ed at my local store who tells me how much she likes the tank every time I am there and runners in my various Facebook groups rave about how much they like it so when it came out in Pigment Wave Multi I had to give it a try. I have to say I really enjoyed running in it. The mesh straps and keyhole cut out in the back really helped keep me cool. I also liked being able to wear it with a Ta Ta Tamer bra (TTT) with the straps uncrossed. I usually wear Swiftly Tanks or some other racerback style for running which means I cross the straps on my TTT but on long runs and races this gives me a tension ache in my upper back. Initially I thought I was tensing up when running but then figured out it was from the bra pressuring me. Being able to avoid this would be heaven. I wasn't sure I loved the high neck but when I went to do post-run stretching and foam rolling on the mats at the gym I appreciated not having to worry about how much cleavage I was showing. I think I might have a new favorite run top. The fit on the tank is a roomy TTS.
The tank reminds me a lot of my favorite Right Round tank, a spin tank with a mesh back that is also fantastic as a run tank:
Right Round compared to the Sculpt Tank. These are both size ten. The Right Round is made of luxtreme and mesh and the Sculpt is made of slightly stiffer Warpstream and mesh.

Thanks for the review. I was on the fence but think I'll jump now:)
I actually appreciate the higher neckline the more I wear it as well. After run stretching outdoors it's nice not to worry about showing too much and with the UPF50 it does help with outside running and sun exposure on the thinner more prone to wrinkle neck and chest skin. My fave running top. I hope they keep it around awhile.
LLA, if I remember correctly you also ordered the run for days crops. Have you tried them? I am debating between the black and deep camo if I pull the trigger. Any feedback will be much appreciated.
I did order them but they haven't arrived yet. I tried them on again when I went to the store on Friday. I happened to be wearing my Runday crops on that visit and this time I didn't care for the Run for Days as much as I did the first time I tried them on. It's hard to live up to the comfort of Rundays, though. I ordered the plain black and decided I didn't need another pair of black run crops after all so I'll be returning them when they get here. I thought they were decently opaque and compressive and the waistband was comfortable but I don't need them. The leg openings worked well for thicker calves.
@ anon 1:21 am - I know. My chest gets nailed by the sun. I burn, even with sunscreen so I don't mind covering that area up.
I got one too and sized down funny I had an orange bra on too and thought it matched well.
@5:14 I tried on all three colors of the run for days crops this weekend and was not wowed by them. I really tried to figure out what was so great about them, especially given the $98 price tag, and I was stumped. While they weren't super sheer, they also weren't opaque on me. Conveniently I was wearing my black pace crops from a year or two ago and I could directly compare the two. The run for days crops were definitely sheer in comparison in the same size.
I found the Varcity crops to be more opaque, but I didn't get those either because there is this sheer meshy vertical stripe up and down the side of each leg, which are just too revealing for my taste. I want workout pants, not "can you guess what color undies I'm wearing" pants.
I also purchased the Sculpt tank in Pigment Wave and I love it!! I wore it for 5 mile run in my gym and it kept me feeling pretty cool. And the print is awesome.
I was surprised by this tank as well. It's not something I would even have tried on but I came across one marked down to $34 at my store and for that price thought I'd give it a whirl. I thought I'd hate the long neck also but the fabric's so light you hardly notice it's there. The length is great, long enough for tights and short enough for shorts imho. Bought another having found the love!
I absolutely love my Sculpt tank. Kept me cool as well!
I can't express enough my disappointment with the Run For Days capsule. I wanted to love everything, and I would have bought everything but the tights. The shorts were just ok--fit slightly more snug and short than Speeds (and at age 50, I don't want to bare any more skin than Speeds), plus almost $70 was off-putting.
The material of all 3 tops was not soft and almost abrasive (could see major chafing with them). The LS had the oddest fit--super tight arms, a huge neck hole (so that it felt like it was falling off my shoulders a la Flashdance (I was suddenly overcome with an urge to put on leg warmers and a headband...). It was also strangely blousey and huge in the chest (my normal size 4 was so baggy--and I'm a 32D!)
The tank also ran large--I sized down to a 2, but the scratchy fabric was a deal breaker--especially at the price point! If you do buy one of these tops, size down! The SS also ran large, and the sleeves were slightly tight (though not as bad as the LS!)
OT: tried on heat wave roll down WUP today but didn't even get them all the way on because they were already whiting out - 82% poly with white inside. You know the rest.
Thanks for the great fit reports everyone. I don't live anywhere near a store so I rely on all of these so I don't have to go through the hassle of returning everything! :)
I went into my local store prepared to buy everything from the run for days collection and left with nothing. The tops were stiff and scratchy, the shorts just didn't flatter my thin frame, the crops cut into my calves at the bottom seam (and I don't have large calves), and I just couldn't take the plunge with the bra. I found the band actually to be slightly loose, although it was still very supportive somehow. It seemed like the support came from smashing the gals down. They underboob from the cutout made me a little uncomfortable as well. I wanted to love everything because I found the colors and designs gorgeous, but ended up being disappointed.
I would love to order a sculpt tank and need your help from you all! I am reading mixed reviews about sizing. Do I need to size down or keep TTS?
can't believe anyone actually likes those tops..... horrible mess!!!!!
Miffy316 I bought a size 4 in the sculpt tank. I buy 4 in the 105 singlet and coastal tank (they are both loose on me but I like that) but six in anything fitted like swiftlys or outerwear. I'm 5'3, 118 pounds, with very little bust, but after four kids I'm a bit concsious of my belly. I would say it's tts if you don't love things tight. If you want it fitted size down.
@Miffy, it depends how you want to wear this tank. My TTS in the sculpt tank was loose around the torso. My size down was more body skimming which I prefer so I went with that.
miffy316--
I am a 6 in crb and most tops. small boobs so I get a 4 in pretty much every bra. I'm a 6 bottoms. I wear 8 scuba and most outerwear style stuff. I would say I'm pretty average in my proportions. I wear a 6 in the sculpt tank. it fits me well. not too baggy in the top/boob area but fits over my hips/butt which isn't big but isn't super petite either (yay squats etc). I think an 8 would be too loose everywhere and a 4 would be too tight in the hips/butt. I do wear a 4 in the 105f bec I don't like it super loose.
Thanks!! My body profile is just like you! 5'3, 118lbs and very small bust. I think I will go with size 4!!
Thanks for the feedback! I don't like body skimming tight so I will go with size down!
I bought this today. I might take the tags off ☺️
