Try On Comments - Lightened Up Singlet & SS, Ruched Swiftly LS, and More

Caught on the hips and ballooning out in the back.

Back pleats add visual bulk.

Caught on hips.

Looks caught on hips.

Not a flattering silhouette.
I tried on the new Lightened Up Singlet and SS yesterday. I did not like the Singlet at all. I am a pear shape so found the hip area too snug. The top got stuck on them and then ballooned out in the midsection even more than the pleats already make it when on the hanger. I didn't want to size up because it would be too big in the chest area. Lululemon keeps coming out with these run tops made of the same material as Speed Shorts, Ultra Light Swift, but I haven't bought a single one yet. Though they are ultra light it seems to me once they get wet with sweat they'd just cling to me. Admittedly, my typical high sweat areas in the summer are the upper chest, under my boobs (sports bra takes the brunt of perspiration) and center upper back, which don't look to be problem areas in this top. Does anyone run in these swift tops? Do you like them? Better than a Swiftly tank or Silverescent top like the older Energy SL singlets? I also don't care for the lack of give in these tops compared to swiftly or silverescent tops. I'd say fit was TTS but if you are going to buy this tank, size it for your hips.

I liked the fit of the Lightened Up SS much better than the Singlet. It either allowed more flare for hips or the scalloped hem helped a lot with that area. It's not a bad shirt at all but if you are going to use it for running, I'd say buy it on the roomy side because the material does not have a ton of give. The fit on this was TTS.

Ruched Scoop Neck Swiftly LS, shown with Pace Crops, Free Reign Shorts, and Tracker II shorts. I really love the Pow color but I can't get on board with the ruching. It seems to add visual bulk and I didn't think it improved the fit of the LS Swiftly on me or other people in any of the try on photos I've seen. I am also not a giant fan of the Scoop Neck in the LS (or the SS for that matter). If I'm wearing a LS Swiftly it's because it's chilly out and the neck is one of the areas I feel cold earliest. I also find the scoop is too wide on me since I have narrow shoulders. I mean, if lululemon is going to monkey with the fit of Swiftly LS, then loosen the arms up a bit. Those are crazy tight and I hate not being able to push the sleeves more than an inch up my forearm (and really have to work it over my Garmin 610) because of how insanely tight the cuffs are. When I run in long sleeves I like to be able to push the arms up to cool off. That is one reason I love running in the Run in the Sun LS - so easy to push arms up and it never rides up.

New, fug cotton Deep V Pullover.

Saw these Pace crops in the store yesterday. The contrast "fish" stripes across the butt are two different colors - Pretty Purple and Vintage Pink - and it's super cute. I have a few pink swiftlys so would love to add these pace crops to my collection but I already have six pairs of run bottoms so don't need these...sigh.

Pipe Dream Swiftly with Pipe Dream Tracker II shorts. Also shown are Pretty Purple Tracker IIs.

Lightened Up LS
Do these sheer luon ls tops even sell that well? My store had a ton of Runamuck LS on the markdown racks. I like the sheer luon 105F just fine but find the material can sometimes feel scratchy in the ls and I just can't see what I would use this for other than a to/from or daytime pajamas.

A lot of Lulu's LS run tops look like pajamas to me... And the last photo with the pretty purple lightened up LS paired with the PF bottoms makes me think of a little girl's pajamas.
I always like ultra light, LS layers for summer running, but in the last year my tops have become increasingly prone to snags even though the material feels the same.

Thanks for the fit review. I got a swift fabric singlet last fall on clearance (the one with a big slit up the back), but I haven't run in it yet. I also have that one top that was silverescent with an upper panel of swift fabric across the chest (it has a slit up the upper back). I can't remember the name of that, but I love it. It's black so it doesn' show sweat. (The sleeves and body are silverescent though with just the chest and upper back being that swift fabric). Not sure I would buy something (other than that very well ventilated singlet) that is complete swift fabric.

I bought my tts Lightened Up Singlet and don't seem to have the problem you are speaking of. It drapes easily over my hips and doesn't bunch out in the back.
Also, there's something about the Pace crops that I really don't like...I find the piping on the back looks silly, but that's just my taste I guess.

Interesting perspective on the scoop neck swiftlys. I actually really like the scoop neck because that's an area I sweat a lot. I don't run outside so I don't have to worry about the sun factor. I only really wear the LS swiftlys when it's the dead of winter though so I'm more interested in the ss at this point. Though I will say I was super disappointed the US did not get the LS scoop neck color from the last palette like Australia got. I have broad shoulders and really skinny arms so the current fit works well for my body type. I'm not sure about the ruching. Anyone run in it yet and can comment on whether it still creeps up against luxtreme pants?
I like the ss Lightened Up top. I was wondering how that one would work with broad shoulders though so I am waiting for some reviews. The tank does nothing for me, which seems like a good thing since I'm definitely pear shaped too.

Looks like we are back in an ugly Lulu stage. Everything is very unflattering. I haven't bought anything in two months and that never happens!

@ anon 12:13 pm- I hear you about the upper chest being a high sweat area. That is true for me, too.

I very rarely wear a LS Swiftly to run in since I find them too warm unless the temps are in the low 40s or lower, which is very rare here. Most of the time I use it as a layering piece when I have to sit outside in colder weather, like when I watch my son's soccer games in the fall/winter. In that case, I am looking for max warmth and protection against wind.

Sometimes I'll wear a short sleeve swiftly crew neck swiftly for summer runs if I feel I have been getting too much sun. It's not too much warmer than the tank and gives me a little more coverage.

@LLA I almost always agree with you on your review reports even though we sound like opposite body types. I may be size 2/4 but your assessments are spot on for me too. so big thanks!!

if anyone sees secret garden speed shorts in Toronto area please report...

Just when I thought I didn't *need* anything else from the new update...I need to stay away from this blog, the pics are awesome and much better then the lululemon website. The Lightened Up Short Sleeve tops look pretty icky online, but the ladies on this blog make it look so nice! It's so cute! MUST HAVE!! I've never really been a fan of tanks, though. The only tanks I can't live without right now are the peplum tops. They're just too perfect. Haven't seen anything remotely as nice since, as far as tank tops. Sizing is always an issue. I got the peplums in size 10 and they fit perfect. Should I get a size 10 Lightened Up top as well or should I size down? I wear a size 6 in leggings. Help!

hi LLA I have run in super hot weather here in NYC in the singlet that came out last summer I think it is made of the swift material I got it in blue and love red. it has slits in the back.
I also have one that is open in the back and I ran in that one in the Caribbean heat.
I worked fine for me, it was flowy enough that it didn't stick to my body. I sweat a lot when I run and work out as I like to push myself.

The top above is nice, but I think it won't work on pear shaped ladies.

I have swift tank from the past (run for your money?) and really like it; it's light and seems to dry relative quickly. Although I agree that this material doesn't has as much give. I also really like running in Silverescent tops; this material dries very quickly and does not cling. I actually do not care for the swiftlys SL - I find it too warm (I also live in S. CA) and it always rides up.

"new fug cotton deep v pullover"... I had to laugh!

Thanks for the fit review. I'm also pear shaped and dread tops that flare out at the hips.

I missed out on the LS Lightened Up Top, but it looks pretty and functional as well.

LLA, I sweat the most under the band of my sports bra (it has gotten worse as I've gotten older too!). We are talking chafe city--I have a permanent scar there. I always have to lube under my bra if I run. Running has made my once cute little feet ugly and calloused with corns and my chest permanently scarred. I do love it, though, and will never give it up! My feet are bad too--have to wear Feetures sox and lube them up to prevent blistering.

If you can see light through a fabric (like the swiftly fabric) UV rays are still getting through to your skin. As someone with a history of skin cancer, I would not recommend you wear the Swiftlys thinking you are protecting your skin. While you may not tan, you're still getting UV exposure. Better off wearing sunscreen under your shirt or wearing a shirt with a UPF rating. Sorry, that's my PSA of the day.

I am in Canada and will be so disappointed if instead of long dreamed about green camo I will be getting black WUP with ugly pineapples attached to them....LLL apparently mislabeled it and I bet won't fix an error in a normal customer service way...

An update to the pineapple thing :
Hi there,

Thank you for your recent purchase with lululemon athletica. Oops! It looks like the incorrect image of the Wunder Under Pants was displayed on our website. As a result, the Wunder Unders in your recent order are not what you're expecting. The item that you will be receiving is the Wunder Under Pant*Print in our pineapple print. To help make this right for you, we will be issuing you a $25 electronic gift card that is redeemable in-store or online and never depreciates or expires! You can expect to receive this gift card via email within the next 24-48 hours.

Well, as happy as I am with $25 gift, I really hope they upload the real green camo WUP and that I win that computer battle again .... What are the odds of this happening? Still disappointed...

LLA, I agree with you on the too tight Swiftly l/s sleeves. Even with toned arms, I find the sleeves too tight the entire sleeve length, just as you describe. What is the deal with this? It also does not seem to matter if you size up, sleeves are just as tight. I wear size 4 but once bought a 6 on markdown, and the sleeves were still really tight. I'm also not into the ruching angle on the Swiftly.

I will hand it to them on Special Edition Swiftlies. I love my SE ones with the floral, paisley, and blossom patterns in them.

Pretty Purple is lovely. I received my CRB and am very happy to have this one. I'm going to have to rotate (sell) some other CRBs. Too many and some are just not going to get selected to wear now. And I have wafs cashew CRB on the way/shipped.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Lululemon wunderpants! Gosh what a classic April fools joke shipping out those fugpants to their customers.

I really like the ruched LS top. Got it in pink yesterday. Forearms are on lock down. No elbow scratching. The crops were a little snug. I wish I hadn't bought them. I love your reviews today.

Ok - I am going out on a limb here. I like the fug deep v pullover! It hasn't shown up in US stores yet or online. I am curious and will have to try it.
