"Technical Innovation, Style, Function, and Beauty" - Music to My Ears

I'm listening to the 2013 Q4 Conference call and will post more about the details later once the transcript is up but the one thing that stood out was that Potdevin and Poseley mentioned "beauty" a lot when talking about the return to "their design-led roots".

The Spirit Pullover from 2009, to me, remains the embodiment of the perfect melding of function, technical, and beauty in athletic clothing with regards to how lululemon does it. (Long time lululemon fans think 2009 was the pinnacle year for products.) Besides the flattering fit, the reflective bird symbols are what really sets this piece apart, really puts the lululemon stamp on it, so I hope we go back to seeing these special, lululemonesque touches like this make a return.

What is your favorite piece that most represents technical, functional, and style/beauty to you?

My favorite "beautiful" piece by lululemon are my "Hold me Close" crops from spring 2012 before things went downhill. They have these beautiful flower grips all down the legs which are amazing for holding yoga poses, and just, well, beautiful. Not to mention that the luon is superb. Sigh, those were the days.

The Gratitude wrap for me has always been a wonderful go-to piece since it's first release. Its an incredibly versatile and functional piece that I wear for all seasons (it's good for those cool summer nights at the cottage on the lake). I wear it around my house, out for casual wear and to and from the gym. The colours have always been beautiful and can go with many outfits. The material is pretty hassle free (not needing any hand washing) and I feel comfortable wearing it around my young children (meaning I'm not so concerned about drool or spit up because I know it washes well). Although I don't actually work out in this piece it remains one of my favorite pieces from LLL :)

Not sure what is the name, but I have a pair of tights (circa late 2008/early 2009) that have a reflective peacock design on the ankle. They are beautiful and I wish styles like that would come back!

I didn't know Lululemon from anything in 2009 so can't really comment on that too much. While I have tons of Lulu and that I love (more than this piece even), I have one piece that, to me, blends form/function/beauty. As controversial as the name was, the draft dodger jacket is it. I have the white one and combined with the reflective insets, I don't worry too much about being seen when I run. I wear it as a cute jacket for cool spring/fall days in the upper midwest, and I wear it for every one of my winter runs (and I'll run outside into the low teens). The cuffins are awesome, as is the zipper placement and the magnet for holding the flap while open. Plus, the lace makes it pretty up close. When I think about it all, this coat is it for me!

Knowing how long production is already set, we may not see these features until spring 2015 at the earliest... Unless Lulu works a quicker TAT and weaves in in with the established line.

When do you think we'll see these, LLA?

I like the skirts of 2011. Super edgy girly flirty and fun! Since then the only fun one has been the Presta cycling skirt and the standard Pace Setter, which can go away and I wouldn't miss it. If I wanted plain Jane lacking fun details, I'd buy any of the other hundred running skirts out there. I was originally drawn to Lulu because of flirty fun functional design. I've been waiting for way too long...

Define jacket, hands down. Oh, I miss it so much!

I wore that piece yesterday for my run. Still one of my favourites. I'll never sell that one.

From 2011 & early 2012 Run turnaround LS in plum Pique (wearing it now) and Quick Step pants. Run Wild jacket, Run free pants. All amazingly beautiful, unique, technical, and well constructed.

Favorite year: 2011, this was lulu at their best for me. Unicorn tears, run resolution skirt in passion (obsessed!!!), galore striped wucs, I could go and on.

I love and wish I bought the back in track jacket!! I see people who are wearing it and it still looks cute and stylish! So jealous!

Oh dear god don't bring those crops with the grips on them back, they're for cheaters. They also went to wmtm.

LLL created a winner with the Run Bundle Up Jacket. The technical aspects and functionality for winter running are perfect. The overall look of the jacket is so appealing, feminine, but not fussy. (The only thing missing is the iPod cord exit!) I love this jacket and I would definitely say that it is beautiful, especially in the silver and polar cream version, which I have. I also have the limitless blue one. I get compliments all the time and people ask me where I got the jacket.

The Run Energy Pullover. Still clinging to mine even though it's 5 yrs old and has seen better days.

Define jacket! Especially the ones with the contrasting Om color.... I stalk them on eBay now.

@AZlulufan - the Energy Pullover is one of my favorites, too. I've been waiting for something similar to it to come out again, so far the Race With Grace is the closest thing I've found but it's a totally different material.

I actually have the Spirit Pullover from 2009. I hardly wear it but cannot bear to part with it (to make way for new stuff) because the quality is just so unbelievable!….

@5:37pm- I am the original poster who enjoys the "cheater" crops. For the record, I don't use them for yoga, so I'm not cheating at anything. I enjoy the feature for more gym-related purposes (they grip mats very well when doing inverted crunches or other activities where you are lying on your side, for instance). No need to be so nasty. I dont care if they made it to WMTM, I think they were a fun, innovative, and pretty-looking piece. Please consider being more respectful of the fact that everyone has different tastes. I am not reserving judgement on you for not liking them, because although I don't do yoga, I can appreciate that while some people migh appreciate this feature it may be undesirable for more experienced yogis.

I'm too new to the game to think back past 2012, so I would go with the Define jacket. I was able to grab one of the last few that were available online - alberta lake rose herringbone. It is my favorite lll piece.

I think LLA has a crush on the new CEO *chuckles*

I love this blog, very informative and addictive.

My favourite item of all time has to be my one and only Define. I got it in 2010. I wear it casually, to/from, and warm up since the gym is always cold. I need more of them but would never pay over $200 on Ebay.

@ anon 1:18 pm - lol. Did you see the stock was up today? Wall Street liked what Potdevin had to say, too. :)

My 2 original DHBH pullovers. Soooo quality! Like wearing a soft hug! And I SO wish they would bring back the simplicity of the speed skirt. It fits SOOOO much better than the pacesetter! It was the original lulu piece that caught my eye on another girl and made me look into lulu.

I knew christine day was bad for lulu wow she almost sunk the ship!!! Now this new guy needs to find the designers that flew the coup and entice them back and get rid of most of the current design team imo!

I loved the MOM- Mind Over Matter Pullovers! The fitted luxtreme design so perfect for running in cool spring and fall temps. Define Jackets!! LOVE LOVE LOVE so please bring them back. I also love all my Inspire Jackets. I'm not a big fan of the Nice Asana jackets-so plain and boring.
