Scuba II Hoodie LOVE! ~OR~ Ribbed Side Panels, Why Did You Quit Us?

I went to my store in hopes they'd have the new Fatigue Scuba and other new things to try on and they did. It was love at first try-on for the Fatigue Scuba. I have a bunch of photos and measurements for you but the bottom line is the old fit is back on the Scuba hoodies.

There are a couple of Very Light Flare Accents on this scuba - some stitching around the hood symbol and the zipper tab is Very Light Flare.

How they all measure up - all are size 10s.
I made measurements on the new Fatigue Scuba II, an older Black Snowy Owl print original Scuba, and a Bleached Coral Scuba Hoodie Stretch Lined Hood.

The new Fatigue Scuba II is made of stretch cotton fleece and is super soft and very pliable. The material is not like the old stiff Scuba material. The older material was super windproof but the stretch cotton fleece is very comfortable. The Scuba II combines the best of both Scubas - the softer, stretchier fleece and the longer, more fitted silhouette of the older Scubas.

Length - I didn't line them up perfectly for the photo but the Fatigue Scuba II is about an inch longer than the Bleached Coral Scuba Stretch (Lined Hood). I took my tape measure and measured from the attachment point of the hood on the shoulder to the bottom hem.

Showing where I took the waist measurement.

Width - Though the jackets measure about the same at the armpits and bottom hem, the waist on the Scuba II (measured at the pocket attachment point) nips in a good inch more than the Scuba Stretch, restoring that great figure-flattering silhouette that everyone had been missing. The bad news is that if you have been cheating down in size because of the roomier midsection you'll have to go back to your old Scuba size.

All in all, it seems the old fit is back with a new softer and more pliable material. I foresee my Scuba collection growing, particularly if more irresistible colors and prints are released.

That scuba hoodie looks great on you! Love this colour. They did make the mens core hoodie (which is one of the best mens hoodie they have made in a while). Finally improvement :)

Here's the thing, you are matching up a jacket that hasn't been through the wash and dryer yet!

So jealous...I've been eyeing that Scuba since the first posting.

Thank you, LLA, for going into the trouble to compare the scubas. It is going to be very useful for everyone who contemplates buying one. I have a huge collection, taking up a whole closet at my place, but I can't bear to sell any of it. The collection goes back to the year 2000; at that time, they had grommets near the pits for ventilation! You are right, it cuts the wind superbly. The only scubas that I never bought were the scuba stretch ones with the unlined hood. (Although I have to tell you, I cried every time I saw the wonderful colours and patterns -still, it was an inferior product to everybody's favourite older scubas.) I am very glad Lululemon decided to listen to us and brought back the style we asked for.

@ anon 3:30 pm - They are supposed to be pre-shrunk. In my experience the jackets may "tighten" up a bit with washing but it's not going to be changed that much. I wash my scubas on cold and then air fluff only. Drying on hot will fade them.

Now if only they would bring back the Define.

yay yay yay!!! I looove the longer length of this old scuba because it was transformative for those of us with less than perfect torsos. This looks great on you LLA, both fit and color!

Very nice! What is the size you are wearing LLA?

Off Scuba topic, but it's over 60 degrees here in the Seattle area! I'm going to wear my new rad plaid shorts to my track workout this evening. I am so excited about the sunshine, warm weather and running in daylight! Monday was my first evening run without a headlight in forever!!! The rad plaid is so flattering--so nice to have the plaid on the bias than the usual big squares parading across my butt, much more slimming! The colors go with so much stuff I already have, they are so versatile. It's finally nice to buy a pattern that doesn't "force" me to buy a new top or bottom just to have one outfit that goes together! So glad I was able to score those shorts on that last Wheel of Doom upload!

I also went to the SCP store today. I bought the beachscape on Monday but it hasn't arrived yet. I walked in and tried on the fatigue scuba and didn't want to take it off!! I may like it more than beachscape if the back is too in your face.

Thanks LLA for the detailed info. I definitely love the old scuba and could not stand the scuba stretch. I'll consider buying a new one when the right colour/pattern comes along.

@ anon 4:40 pm - I know! It's so soft.

@ anon 3:54 pm - All the scubas in the photos are size 10s.

@ anon 3:38 pm - Right?!?

@ Eric- thanks!

Yep i concur- best of both scubas for the new number 2 scuba. I got the antidote green and i'm in love!! I did size up however w/ the stretchier softer fleece its doable I usually get a size 6 in scuba 1 but chose the size 8 for my new one. I adore it i agree w/ lla that when new colors come out i LOve i will cave.

I love the fatigue scuba, but SO don't need another...thanks so much for the fit comparisons! Much appreciated.

Sorry I don't know if it was mentioned before but, is the fatigue scuba hoodie heathered?

Thanks for all the scuba details. I have an original and a first edition of the scuba stretch without the lined hood. It's shocking that there is only a 1" difference in the two styles because once on, it feels and looks like way more than that. I'm almost embarrassed everyone I wear my scuba stretch, its so unflattering, such a terrible design

ah! that fatigue scuba looks great on you!

i got one of the scuba II, heart chakra ones and i love it. love it even more than the older ones. so comfy.

want beachscape and fatigue, but can't justify, with the weather heating up out West.

yes, to the return of define! putting on a forme and putting on a define is just a world of difference, to me. the fit and construction is far superior in define.

i just returned my camo forme. lacking in quality, fabric and construction.

I'm in Seattle too! So gorgeous today! Literally spent the entire day outside: ran at green lake this morning, park with the kids after school and bummed around the beach at Golden Gardens before sunset. I ran in my WUs this morning but I think I could have easily done shorts instead. And I agree, I'm loving this time change ;)

@ anon 6:52 pm - yes, the fatigue scuba is heathered.

OT- LLA or anyone else: do you know if the Beahscape Multi will be coming in a WUC, or just the WUP? I'm dying to know!!!

Anonymous said...

Desperately Looking for an angel who has a pair of size 6 beachscape WUP please email me lewis_101@hotmail.com

You do such an awesome job! Thank you for all your hard work.

@ anon 9:41 pm - thanks!

@ anon 9:29 - you would think there would be crops coming but I don't know for certain and am just speculating.

Thank you for this analysis- you're the best! Could you please add the prices for each scuba? Rumour has it that the scuba stretch was a marketing scheme to reintroduce the beloved scuba at a bigger price.
Thanks again!

This is great - thank you so much for all your hard work and giving us so much detail! I do not own any scubas but can almost feel how soft they are from your description! I too may finally cave and get one.

GRRR you lucky ducks on the West Coast! I live in Ontario and we're expecting a snow storm over the next couple of days...plus it's still cold as hell!!!

When did the wmtm uploaded last night

Anonymous said...

Oh, I love the color of that scuba. Unfortunately I don't think I can justify more than one scuba this year. I wish I'd held out for the scuba 2. :( On an unrelated note, What's with the Lululemon upload to WMTM? It's just a bunch of clothes that are out of stock. At least it looks like something is on sale.

Thanks LLA for the Scuba analysis! It's awesome to know the old Scuba fit is back. I really like the new cadet blue/beachscape and fatigue but I'm holding out in case a print comes along. It's going to be in the low 80s here this weekend and couldn't quite justify ordering a new hoodie.

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 6:29 am - It was sometime around midnight west coast time - something in between 11:30-midnight. I was periodically checking it until it showed up.

Thank you so much for your detailed pictures and info. I don't own any scubas. I already own a fatigue colored jacket so I'll probably pass on this one. It does look great on you and the pictures shown here.

Any word on if the Chakra scubas will be making a reappearance? Regretting not getting a purple one :(

Received my beachscape scuba today. I LOVE it. The back print doesn't scream 'look at me'. It's pretty and subtle and perfect! The new scubas are so soft and the fit is awesome. I bought two sizes, but I'm staying with my TTS. I love that they made them a little bit longer.

I was in the store yesterday and saw the fatigue scuba. It was pretty and very soft, but the color just washes me out. I'm more of a blue person.

I was late to the Scuba party, so my first one was the Scuba II in the bordeaux drama print. It's beautiful and cozy, but the hood is so heavy that it feels like the jacket is falling off in the back if it's not zipped. It's definitely too hot for where I live, but I justified it because I'm moving to a climate with actual seasons and it was too pretty to pass up. I had to slap my hand away from the mouse to keep from ordering the cadet blue/beachscape.
