What Will Take Longer, Running the Sea Wheeze Half or Registering For It? (Answer: Registering!!! The Fun Continues Tomorrow)

I've been trying for an hour and a half to register for the race but no joy yet. It didn't help that my DSL cut out at the check out screen. Anyone have success yet?

Update - The Whyte Avenue Store just posted this:

Due to an overwhelming response of excitment for the seawheeze registration, they are accepting no registration at the moment and the race is not sold out. They are working really hard to get it back up and running! Stay close to social media (twitter & facebook) to get the updates! Happy running!

2nd Update -

The Sea Wheeze Facebook page finally posted an update:

Due to the incredible number of people who jumped on to register, we’re experiencing technical difficulties. As of now, the majority of spaces are still available. We’re working hard to resolve this and will have an update here at 3:00pm PST today.

3rd Update-

Well, kids, we broke it good - congrats to us all!

I am excited to sign up for this race so I hope they get everything set up properly for things to go smoothly tomorrow. Maybe they are going to add lots more spots. ;-)

HAHAHAHAHA! Excellent banner ... you will definitely finish the race quicker than registering using their "dollar store" software/server!

Nope. Obviously Obamacare website creators are also running Lulu's websites.

Glad I'm not the only one locked out...

OMG, lululemon and their crappy servers!!! Turn the registration over to Active next year. They handle Disney's enormous races with few problems. I'll pay the fees.

I've been trying since 10:03. I thought it was just me having problems! Hopefully it works before I chicken out! I thought lululemon was the only thing that could motivate me to run... But maybe I'll stick to yoga. Or more realistically, just walking to dogs.

no luck here either. #lulufail

No surprise. I have difficulties with the Lulu page all the time. Items that are 'hot sale' are impossible to buy. No matter at what time!... It is really disappointing! Specially when there is no actual Lulu store to go to!... They need to spend some serious Dev to have a better system!

From what I have read, the site is down and no one is actually registered yet. I am stuck at the check out screen.

I swear they pull this stuff on purpose to give the illusion they are more popular thank they really are

I was able to register and received great response from lululemon customer service via e-mail.

Be patient and you will get through:)

LuluAddict said...

Wow, Ashley, you are the first person I have heard make it through.

Anonymous said...

I just got booted at the waiver page...so frustrating!

Anonymous said...

Were you able to enter your "race participant" info? Stuck there as if I entered zero info!

Anonymous said...

I called the number listed on top for help..what a JOKE. They claim they're event people yet know zip. I've been trying since 10:02am

Anonymous said...

I was able to fill everything out but now it won't let me checkout!! WTF

Anonymous said...

im close...just waiting to pay now...but have been waiting to pay for 20 minutes now =(

LuluAddict said...

I am stuck at the check out page, too. I am on the SW FB page and multiple lulu FB groups NO ONE has gotten through yet.

Junie B said...

Stuck at check out page as well! It just keeps thinking and thinking :O)

Taryn13 said...

My goal is to finish the half in 2:30 ... I've been trying to register for 2 hours and 18 minutes .... GEESH! It always crashes on the checkout page.

Junie B said...

Ashley do you suggest those of us on the checkout page just wait as it spins?

Anonymous said...

I am stuck waiting to pay too...have it all filled out but no where to enter credit card info yet...anyone else have to wait to pay and get through??
Thanks

LLA was it like this last year with all the troubles?

Reading your banner was the first thing that made me smile in the last 3.5 hours! (Which means I actually could've finished a marathon by now...) I'm stuck on the checkout page - shorts selected, etc. etc. This is agonizing. But happy to be in good company. ;)

Junie B said...

Just saw them respond with this: We'll be turning off the registration process for the time-being so I recommend checking back at 3pm PST, when we have an update.

It says the event is closed!!!

Mine's been spinning for over an hour. Good thing I took the day off for this. But I've already missed one yoga class, and if this debacle continues at 3pm, will probably miss the other as well. *sigh*

I am trying to register from NZ. I hav spend $5000 on airfares for my husband and I to travel up to do this race. I'm normally good at self control but I've just had a major cry. Why is registering for races sooooo hard. I'm so worried I'll miss out:(

Anonymous said...

Omg, this company is completely inept at all things IT-related.

Anonymous said...

And of course the majority of spaces are still available, this is an over 10,000 capacity event. I suspect lulu is trying to create hype and a front page news story with making this process so difficult and "exclusive." I'm so over this. Hello LA Marathon, buh-bye lulu crappy half. Better weather, course, and similar pricing. I don't have the time or inclination to wait on this any longer.

Anonymous said...

I got through to check out after hours of trying, now it is closed. What a cluster. They should have been prepared since THEY created the "excitement" to register all at once by pumping it up so much and saying it would sell out fast.

Anonymous said...

"This" from a company who's revenue is in the billions. Nice.

MB. said...

Lord, calm down. Some of you are being so over dramatic.

The servers are down because of too much traffic. The race won't sell down today--lulu's goal of selling out this year is in a week.

They'll beat that goal but you'll definitely have a full 24 hours to buy your tickets, so take a deep breath :)

Anonymous said...

Can anyone that made it through the registration process take a screenshot of the new ladies run tracker II shirts? I'm curious what they look like :)

Anonymous said...

MB - With all due respect, people have the right to be upset. Telling people to "calm down" is disrespectful. The IT issues that Lululemon has is a constant. There is absolutely NO reason we should be spending the entire day trying to sign up for an event, or buy a new product, etc. I'm not as bothered by this as some are ... I know it will sort itself out eventually, but I certainly respect the ones that are upset ... especially people that have already spent a lot of money in travel plans to come to Vancouver!

Anonymous said...

Jeeze people. its not yogageddon, there are a ton of spots this year (I hear over 10 thousand spots) Its not going to sell out in the first day.

What most of you fail to realize is, despite your "use another system" or "get a better IT Department" go to a concert ticket site and try to buy tickets for a popular band the second it opens up. guess what,, you wont get through either. You all need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN. Really popular races had to go to staggered registration because it happens to them too. And they have been at it a lot longer than two years.

It is the job of everyone working there to hype an event. the faster an event sells out, the more promotions and better swag we get because they can pimp it to everyone.

BUT, when 5 thousand air headed yoga posers all open up two browser windows and keep hitting refresh every three seconds on their computer because "Gasp OMG you can't get in right away, this simply will not due CRUCIFY LULU" shit like this happens. It over loads a system they have no control over. So you have no one but yourselves to blame.

But honestly it really comes down to this, with all the shit you throw at their feet, why the hell do you even shop there anymore or want to run their race?? Either suck it up and realize shit happens that isn't their faultall the time or go away and let the door hit you on your ass on the way out.

Distance racing is getting more and more popular. The Disneyland races here have gone from taking a month to sell out to selling out in 24 hours so I can understand why people are trying to register as soon as they can and are super anxious about it.

I know the Disneyland Dumbo inaugural race took down Active's servers last year but I think they recovered pretty quickly.

OMG anon 2:35! WHO is it that needs to calm down? Lol.

Anonymous said...

@2:35 is it really necessary to use foul language? You must be a MAN because I was brought up that only Uneducated Men use harsh tones and Harsh words. You are plain RUDE.

Anonymous said...

looks like we are going to have to wait until tomorrow to register! uhhhhhh

Anonymous said...

@Anon 2:35

Very classy!!!

Anonymous said...

@3:00 You are incorrect, I am a women who is highly educated and respected in my community.

I am not worked up, nor am I being rude unless you are one of the people who are worked up and or being rude and therefore would feel personally attacked by my comment.

As a lawyer and mediator I look at all sides of a problem with very little emotional attachment and for the most part I find that the grand majority of people commenting are making uneducated suggestions about issues they do not understand and have no knowledge in, and to further my point, all the comments and examples I made can be found being made by people on the facebook page.

Foul language aside though, I was always taught that uneducated people make assumptions, so unless you would like to go head to head about this point I suggest next time you keep sex based slurs to yourself as they can easily be flipped to show just how ignorant the original commenter of the slurs really is.

I'm very disappointed I didn't get to register today, especially after spending hours waiting for their servers to work.
Tomorrow, I hope they allow everyone who made accounts today to complete registration first. It would only be fair to those who were waiting at 10am PST today to register.

Anonymous said...

@anon 2:35. Yikes. Bad day for you? Clearly something has made you very ANGRY? Seems like you're the one that needs to chill out a little. Surely you're more intelligent than your post would suggest.

Anonymous said...

what a nightmare, I feel bad for all the people registering at the moment.
I like the Obamacare comment, I guess it's best to humor a disaster.

hope it is better tomorrow

Distance running is definitely growing. More people are wanting to run half marathons and marathons. For this year's Boston Marathon, you had to be over a minute and an half faster than your qualifying time (which had to be 5 minutes faster than the same age qualifying time 2 years ago because they raised the standard). My husband's PR which was 8 seconds under his qualifying time got him in last year. This year, it would not. I was worried I wouldn't get in, and I was almost 5 minutes under my qualifying time. I was so relieved I did! I think registration only lasted 2 weeks. Of course, they let in all the runners who didn't get to finish last year because of the bombing, and they allowed people who were affected somehow by the bombing to apply for spots too.

I hope all of you get in for Sea Wheeze. I definitely want to do it next year with my sisters in law. It just didn't work out for me this year. Good luck you guys! :)

While it is certainly the job of race organizers to promote an event, I disagree that the right approach is to "hype" registration to the extent that there are countdowns to a specific registration time /date (down to the minute) and repeated warnings to mark your calendar to sign up then bc the event will sell out quickly. This whips everyone into a frenzy so that they go on (as directed!) at that exact moment so they don't miss out. If a race wants to sell out that quickly and promotes in this manner, they should be prepared to handle the onslaught of people trying to register all at once.

Anonymous said...

People whining about IT... notice the website is functioning just fine? it's only the registration part that doesn't work, which isn't them, it's 2M (like disney goes with active or whatever)

Anonymous said...

@anon 3:23. You claim to look at all sides of an issue with very little emotional attachment. Your post was clearly emotionally charged. It came across very, very angry. As an attorney, surely you have cases to read through tonight rather than writing long posts on this blog? If you are that "educated" you know this is childish.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm "5 thousand air headed yoga posers all open up two browser windows...". Assumptions? Who's making those? Lol

Anonymous said...

@ 2:35/3:23 & MB 2:08, actually thank you for saying it. I can't believe the ridiculous drama here!

I think the only other sensible person here is Anon 1:28 who's off to register for LA.

Glad I didn't even wait around for this. Maybe I'll register, maybe I won't. I run a lot of races and it certainly won't make me cry or be "upset" if I don't run it.

Eric Lewis said...

no surprise.. they can't make a regular upload work properly

Jen said...

Anon 4:16 - completely agree. Apparently their marketing and IT departments don't sit at the same table.

I'm frustrated and disappointed, mainly because I HAD the time today to deal with their issues. I don't have thus luxury tomorrow (well, I do since I have the day off, but we're traveling south of the border and I don't know if I'll find a Starbucks for wifi at noon). This is a fun race - and as this debacle can attest, it is going to be very popular this year, and in subsequent years. I hope they revisit what when wrong and make it right.

My husband speculates that maybe lululemon had some sort of denial of service attack today and that is what caused such a prolonged outage. Either that, or a hardware failure, which is unlikely.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for some common sense. Well said *clap*

The LLL webpage was actually somewhat affected, at least this morning, by the server mess of SeaWheeze registration. I was trying to get into my account to check an order status and see if my Monday order had arrived today. I wasn't able to get into my account info for maybe 10 minutes. I'm guessing if you tried to make a purchase online this morning you might have run into some issues as well.
