Sea Wheeze 2014 Date Announced - August 23rd

The 2014 Sea Wheeze date has been announced - it'll be August 23rd, so a couple of weeks later than previous years. (Registration opens on January 23, 2014.) On one hand this is good for me since I won't miss my eldest son's birthday like I did this year but on the other hand my school district has been starting school before labor day so the school year will most likely start a couple of days before the race and I'll have to work something out with my husband to be able to attend.  It also puts the Sea Wheeze the weekend before the Disneyland Half which is always held Labor Day weekend. Not that a ton of people do both races but I did both last year and I saw more than a few pairs of Sea Wheeze shorts at that race. If anyone has any insight as to why the date got pushed I'd be curious to hear. I'd love for it to be moved back a week or two for 2015.

Now, for the important stuff, the eye logo is a bit creepy but I am loving the color scheme a lot. I really hope that Track Attacks or Groovy Run shorts are one of the short choices this year, if lululemon decides to do run shorts as their race entry item again. Any of you tentatively planning on attending?

SO excited! I'm planning on running my first SeaWheeze half in 2014.

And yes, they are planning on doing shorts with the race entry again. Ahh, just seeing this sneak peek is getting me excited for the race next year.

Ive wanted to travel from downunder for the last 2 years to attend. I'm saving hard so that it happens for 2014!!!

I'm going! I went this year and it was such a blast and Vancouver was so lovely that I'm going to use Seawheeze 2014 as an excuse to look for Apartments up there! Besides, it keeps all my hard work for seawheeze this year going! I too find the eye CREEPY. But I dig the color scheme!

LLA, do you know when registration opens?

When does it go on sale?

Ahhhh! I love the color scheme and my husband and I have basically been asking each other, "How many days until SeaWheeze 2014?" since we got home. It's our one yearly getaway from the kids and we were planning to continue the streak and go for the third year in a row. Buuuuut...August 23rd is my littlest's birthday!!! She'll only be four, so I thought we could celebrate on the 20th or something and she'd never know. (My sister said to buy her a puppy.) How did you pull it off last year, LLA? And how old is your son? I don't want to go down in infamy as the worst mom ever, but I can't miss this race! ;)

I am a little bummed that they moved the date. School here starts by then, so we get super busy with all things back-to-school for my kids. I was really hoping to go this year.

The eye is totally creepy to me, too--very esoteric. Weird!

Thank you sooo much! My SIL's and I want to do this!!

OT - i just went to my local store (manhasset, ny) and they had a TON of sales. Different types/colors/size of sports bras for $14-24. Will crops $34-44 (although the colors were see through a bit)...pants/jackets...they even had full tilt long sleeve in hyperstrype plum for $69 (it was size 2) ... The sales rack was about 3 times larger then usual...Is it the same in all of the stores?

Am I the only one who has noticed that the letters are drawn in different perspectives?

I agree that the eye is quite creepy. Wonder what their message is. I do like the colors, especially the green.

she's four I don't think she'll care!!! also don't go and buy a puppy for a 4 year old that's unfair to the dog!!!!! what and then the dog pees misbehaves and you send him to the pound I suppose all because your selfish and think your kid will hate you for celebrating her b day one day early- come on think w/ your brain and your heart if you have either- you sound super shallow!!!

I'm going for the third year in a row! I don't care for the eye but I do like the colors. Fingers crossed for track attack shorts as an alternative to speeds!!!!

Wow Anonymous @3:04! I hope you day is going better than your comment implies!

I don't think anyone would buy a puppy for a 4 year old and not expect to be the one taking care of it! My one year old "owns" my dog now and all that means is she cuddles him (too much at times), eats his food and holds his leash (sometimes with him attached, sometimes not). It's a fun cute joke.

PS Not be super shallow or anything but "your" implies possession, and "you're" is short for "you are". Please use these two different words correctly. Additional punctuation and grammar lessons would also be a great idea.

Anon @ 12:45 PM: The last time I went to the store, there were so many things on the markdown rack. Race Me short sleeves, Ebb to Street bras in Angel Wing, Urbanite Pants, even a few Hyper Stripe Angel Wing CRBs... it seems like a lot of the things that just got released.

Anon @ 1:14 PM: I noticed it too! It bugs me that the perspective alternates every letter. I am a designer so that might just be me though, ha.

Wow, anon@3:04, telling luluFemom she sounds "super shallow" and predicting her future behavior if she should buy her kid a dog is a bit much! How would you like it if I said "You sound angry and judgmental"? Seriously! Call me a pedantic butt-in-ski, but I am surprised by your vitriol. You could have made similar points but in a much more civil tone. We all come on this site because we like a particular product brand. We all come from different places and backgrounds, but in general, this site is a place to vent about poor service and poor quality relating to Lulu not each other. The thing I love about this blog is all the fabulous, strong women who are committed to bettering themselves (whether through running, yoga, cross fit, whatever), and all the other wonderful ladies encourging and supporting them.

Anonymous 3:04: it's so obvious she was joking about getting a puppy.

Looks like the whole background picture in the logo is upside down. Turn it over and you can see the water, boat, trees...

@ anon 3:04 - whoah, what's with the personal attack?? I'm sure if LuluFemon bought her child a puppy she'd be well aware that SHE would be the one taking care of it (this is typically still the case even when you buy pets for kids into their teens) and wouldn't just get rid of it.

@ LuluFemon. IMO you should go to SeaWheeze! I'm a boxing day baby so I NEVER celebrated my birthday on the actual day as a child, and I never cared. As long as I had a "special day" it doesn't really matter when that day is. I don't think you would be a bad mom at all!

Wow, anon 3:04 pm, many people do buy dogs and keep them until they die of old age. We got a dog when I was pregnant with my first son and then we got another five-year old rescue about a year later. One died at age 16 and the other is 15 and counting so kids and dogs do go together very well.

@ luluFemon - he is 14. A four year old probably would know you were missing her birthday but as long as she celebrated early, got some great presents and cake, and got to stay with grandma/grandpa where she could be totally spoiled I don't think she would mind much. My son got dragged to Canada for his 13th birthday (and dragged to about 8 different lulu stores on that entire trip) so he didn't mind staying home.

@ Kristin - I definitely hope they have a longer shorts option - Track Attack, Groovy run - for the entry item and at the store. I saw tons of them during the race. It seemed to me more people were wearing the race shorts than the first year but those were flawed with those nasty bonded seamed edges.

I just read on their FB page that this was the only date that they could get the Convention Centre and the route they wanted. I'm so sad as I really wanted to do it again this year but the date change makes it impossible. I wonder if this is the date they will use moving forward? And to think, one organizer told me that they picked the 10th or so of August as the date up until now because it was statistically the weekend with the lowest amount of rain in Vancouver! Not that I think two weeks will make a huge difference, but it's a little thing that they' can't drudge up now.

I really want to do the race next year but if Lululemon doesn't offer shorts with the registration, I won't be doing it... Is that weird?

Not much more stuff on sale than on online... My local store has started mixing sale stuff in with regular stuff... Annoying because I'm really buying a lot of sale stuff and less interested in full priced items.

PS why is there drama on a blog about workout clothes? I love this blog and most of the comments are helpful, so why do others ruin the whole experience? :/

LuluAddict, I saw SO many people wearing the race entry track attack shorts during the race. I was really surprised, but I just think it speaks volume about there is such a need for cute and practical shorts other than speeds. Speeds work for a small Lulu population in my opinion.

Wow. I am not a big blogger so this is the first time a comment I posted has been so misinterpreted - I was being completely facetious about the puppy! I have a very wry and self-deprecating sense of humor but I guess that doesn't always come across online...either way, thanks for all the input (you are so right about the grandparents spoiling her, LLA!) - I hope to get this worked out so I can see some of you lovely ladies in Vancouver next summer - it's been such an amazing experience both times! (And while I wouldn't say I'm "super" shallow, this is a blog for lulu ADDICTS, so there may be something to that...;)

luluFemom, kudos to you for your graciousness! I don't think I would have responded as nicely as you did. Bravo, well done!

Yay! Hotel is already booked. However, I may need to negotiate with DH on our family vacation. That was to be the final weekend of our ski trip to NZ. Might need to leave the boys in NZ while I head back to North America for the race.

@anon 4:18 pm. Good eye! When I first saw the photo, I thought it looked like snow so I thought the run was going to be at Whistler! I spent many spring breaks there with my kids... we're from Hawaii. :)

Yes, LuluFemom - way to take the high road. Rock on!

Although I liked the Track Attacks, I would be over the moon if they offered a Pace Setter option as the premium this year!

sorry about my rude comment about the dog!!! I am surrounded by idiots where I live that don't treat their pets like family, they basically buy them w/ out thinking and then when it doesn't work off to the pound the dog goes!!! Its a sore subject w/ me and that lady sounded so laze fair about getting a dog almost like an afterthought is how I took it- hope i'm wrong but have to say it how I see it at the risk of upsetting a lot of you sometimes you have to be blund and rude to wake people up and make them think!!!! I love animals and people not so much ;)
