It also comes in Polar Cream. Showing the side vent. |
I know I said in my post about the new Scubas that lululemon should just keep the same designs and raise prices but the new $178 Uba Hoodie is pretty outrageous. I'm not exactly sure why I would need mesh venting on top of my arms but whatevs. There is also venting on the sides. There is reflectivity edging the hood and the stripes on the arms are also reflective. Really? A couple of vents and some reflective tape add up to $70 more than a regular Scuba? Easy pass for me, particularly in boring and prone-to-fading black. (Thanks to Ms. C for the photos.)
Update - Hmmm, not sure what material this is made of. Maybe that is why the price is crazy high. The wrinkles in the white make it look neoprenish so I'm thinking it's not french terry. However, the tag is of no use (shocker).
Update 2 - The material is not french terry but something that feels polyestery on the outside but super soft on the inside. A new technical fabric, apparently. Still, $178 is big number.

It is SO UGLY
Ughhhh, seriously? I suppose the timing is pretty much on par with the SE Scubas from last year with the lace, ribbon taping and fur, or the transformer hoodies from the year before that turned into pillows and vests...
I don't get the thought process behind this. The only time I want mesh venting on my clothing is clothes I will sweat or run in- but the Scuba isn't practical for those things since it's not a technical, wicking or breathable fabric. So why waste money on the venting? I reach for a Scuba when I want to be warm and cozy, I have no use for the venting!
A Scuba with a detachable hood or a zip out sherpa inner lining would be functional and maybe something I'd consider spending extra money on. Or a running jacket with detachable sleeves to make a vest.. But not this!! This is a miss!
@ RunItMyWay - Exactly!! The Scuba is a warm and cozy hoodie and not meant to sweat in.
$178.00!!!!! I almost fell out of my chair!
I seriously almost fell out of my chair. Was sitting down and pulled up your blog! $178.00!!!!
I'm guessing it is some sort of soft shell material based on the description. I'm always open to a new design but this thing is just fug to me.
I too was wondering what I would ever use this jacket for. For me, the only possible activity I could foresee using a vented jacket for is cross country skiing, but usually I prefer outerwear thinner than a Scuba. The ambiguity (and price!) of this jacket has me stumped!
OT...I found this very interesting. I bought a Flow Y-like bra from "One Tooth" yoga store...for $28.99 and I'm usually a size 10 in Lulu bra's. A size Large was perfect in the Lulu like, knock off bra. Anyways, where lulu is having problems with fit, quality, bleeding issues, ect...I thought LLA would find the hang tag very interesting....
One one side it says, "One Tooth Activewear, Designed and made BY Canadians FOR Canadians. As a Canadian company One Tooth Active wear delivers quality engineered clothing to suit EVERY lifestyle!"
On the other side of the tag, it says, "OT Tech fabric offers.... *Superior colorfast dye process, *Built-in compression to help you look your best, *Breathable, wicking, quick-drying, *Easy-care, cold-water wash, *Pill resistant engineering, *Consistent performance, wash are wash and *Comfort and durability."
The reason I'm posting this LLA, because I find it funny, it says ALL THE THINGS Lulu seems to be having problems with, right now. This tells me, this Vancouver based company is very aware of Lulus issues. very interesting hang tags, to say the least...
Dis. income girl. :)
AHAHAHAHAHAHA. A $178 HOODIE. HOODIE. What on Earth is Lulu thinking? Their price points are ridiculous now. I'm a huge Lulu fan but I'm close to being done. With these kind of price points, terrible design changes, bleeding dyes and wonky craftsmanship, I just can't anymore.
Well said RunItMyWay, I don't use my scuba's as I would my snowboarding jackets, and I won't run in them, so why the vents? and why a vent on the side of the arm?? its supposed to be in the armpit if you want to get technical about the best placement of these vents. My bicep doesn't need the venting!
Its another money grab that all the lululemmings will snap up, as long as these items help keep my technical gear at a comparable price to other brands I am happy.
Ugh ! What were they thinking ?? It's very ugly and as mentionned above.... no need for venting with a Scuba ! Super easy pass !
I find my self getting overheated in my outerwear ALL the time in the winter. When you are outside everything is fine and then you get in a car/go in a house with someone who like the temp. too warm and suddenly you feel like you are dying. Well, you can take all your layers off or you can can just make a couple quick zips!
I don't think I will be buying this but I also don't think this is as dumb an idea as some people are making it.
Where in the hell are the wraps? They were wildly successful last year, or so I thought. I have 2 method wraps that I adore. They are flattering and warm! How about one of those in true violet. Signed frustrated in the Midwest.
This looks very similar to a base layer that my husband bought at MEC about 5 years ago. Though his is a halp-zip on the front it does have shorter zippers on the arms near the top and the fabric looks the same. You're right, it is kind of "neoprenish" with a soft fleecy lining on the inside. He wears his underneath a wind, rain layer as it it neither wind nor waterproof.
There is no way in h*** I would pay that kind of money for something like this a glorified base layer!!
Yeah.. This is a super fail on Lulu's part.
I love my "special" scuba that has that zipper/detachable lining. But Even that I got at the outlet for a hundred bucks. There is no way you could get me to pay this much.
Seriously.. My outlet store has about 6 different types, all from this season as big. fat. failures.
Lulu has lost their minds. Literally.
If this is a technical jacket similar to a softshell, I would consider paying that as a cold weather running jacket.
I'm not buying a $178 hoodie no matter what it does! This is another fail that will be in WMTM soon. Everyone just wants classic designs with older quality in nice colors. Geez
Hahahahaha Is that a joke? As if scubas were not already unflattering enough, as to now pay close to $200 dollars for a cottom hoodie.
Ladies for less than that we could sponsor a full year schooling for a child in a third world country. Think about it. Or support a local animal rights organization.
Maybe I'm more sensitive to these issues, after just returning from a country where a single mother tries to send her four kids to school, making just half a dollar a day. Gifting her $30 (two lululemon headbands) meant one month salary for her to support herself and her kids.
Um yeah. No.
Great for me (and my hubby)!!! I will save money this week.
next, lulu will bring out "crotchless panties" with side vents! I'm expecting it will come out very soon!! LMAO...
It's an easy pass and the vents are a gimmick, imo. I like the trim around the hood and the logo that's about it.
As for people who don't like certain details (9:55), to each their own, but I have the SE Scuba with pleated tape in Ghost. It is in fact a beautiful Scuba sweater. I have received many compliments on it.
I put on a scuba everyday after hot yoga and walk to work. I would love some vents and a more technical fabric. Sooo they maybe didn't loose their mind to catering to a variety of people.
Looks like it will be a cheap week!
@ 10:53 AM, One Tooth Activewear has been around for a few years, yes it is in competition with LLL. Hence, similar hangtag speak etc. Their clothes are made in the exact same factory in Vancouver where LLL used to have their stuff made, when it was made in Canada (the odd LLL item is still made in Canada). I have a couple of things from OT and they are great.
I could see the Uba Hoodie being good for cycling, but only if it was actually thick enough to be more wind resistant like the scubas used to be. But being able to stay warm as you pick up speed, but also being able to vent the jacket without taking it off, plus the reflectivity - it's all great. Is it worth paying $178+ (taxes)? That's an easy no.
