Why Does Australia Get Size 12 Free To Be Bras and North America Doesn't?

I can't fathom why Australia/New Zealand gets the Free to Be bras up to size 12 but the North American side of the website only goes to a 10. I'm dying to order the Power Pink and Split Pea versions but I've tried the 10 and it just doesn't work for me. I've read of women using Australian friends to order the Free To Be in the 12 and then having it shipped to North America. I'm just not willing to spend that much to get one. I don't get it. The population of the US and Canada is ten times that of New Zealand/Australia. Why is lululemon missing this market opportunity? Keep them website only if you like, but please offer us the opportunity to buy it.

Frustrating isn't it? I generally wear size 12 from lulu and have noticed a lot of items only going up to size 10 these days. The Gather and Crow crops that came out on the last upload, Venus crops from the upload before. Even when items do come in a 12, they are often sold out on the same day as the upload, especially for popular items in new colors.

I know that lulu has clearly stated that they limit production on their items, as a marketing tactic to increase hype, but I just wish they'd make a more things all the way to size 12 or stock a few more. They're certainly losing money from me!

(Side note: Bring back the Tame Me Tank!)

Agree completely LLA :) LLL fails their C & D cup customers in the sports bra department and now this. Since LLL is trying to pad their 3rd quarter earnings figures for the next SEC filing, maybe they should value their USA & Canadian customers by giving them the same products that they are selling in Australia/New Zealand. Their "scarcity" model is failing. LLL needs to try for quality, loyalty to their log term customers, and operating in an ethical fashion for a change. I seriously doubt, however, that LLL cares about customers opinions. If they did, they would have corrected all their mistakes by now. Very disappointing LLL!

Is Australian sizing maybe different than US? I saw an item on eBay awhile back that listed both Australian size/US size...so I wondered...

I for one, would love to see size 12 in not only bras, but a lot of tops and bottoms that only go up to size 10. I have also spoken to educators about larger cup sports bras...it's so hard to find a sports bra that is functional and pretty for my 38DD's. Lululemon just doesn't have one that does the trick, although I understand that the TaTa Tamer used to come in 38DD, but it doesn't any more.

I find it puzzling, because if you watch the website it's the size 12's in all garments that sell out right away. That's your average size woman...make more for her, Lululemon!

I thought they just didn't make the Free to Be in a 12, which I was willing to accept, until someone mentioned that they bought it off the Australian side of the website. It just doesn't make sense to ignore the big market that is North America.

The extremes of the sizes - 2s and 12s are made in less quantity than the 6/8 "sweetspot" sizes. You have to be quick to get them.

Australia sizes are different so the 4 is like a size 2 and the 12 is a size 10 that is why they don't have size 2. If they did us sizing the people in Australia would get really confused I assume.

Couldn't agree more. I don't get it - they sell out of the bras here in no time and if i don't buy my size on the spot, its gone tomorrow - so why are they cutting back and instead making ridiculously small covering bathing suits as a branch out? Service the loyal custombers you already have and don't discriminate for size. I bought a ten in a bra b/c it was the biggest they had and now can't wear it... it just doesn't work. boooh.

I agree. The Aus side has No Limit tanks in size 2, but the US side has stopped carrying them in 2. They are my favorite tanks but I need a size 2 and have thus stopped buying them. I don't understand why Lulu is limiting their size range for the larger market. It makes no sense!

YES bring back the Tame ME!!

There is a lot of that, stuff sold in one Market is not sold in others. Very frustrating. In keeping with their "scarcity" panic-inducing model though I suppose.

I would have been really frustrated at the Sea Wheeze since they didn't have any size 12's. I always wear a 12 and I had everything booked to do that race, but had to travel on business that weekend and cancel.... That would have been so disappointing to me! I can't see why they don't offer everything in the full range of sizes, that doesn't make sense to me!

It's the same thing with Flow Y bras, NLTs and the Run for your money tank... annoying.

I buy mine off the Aussie website or get from a store in Auckland NZ and get them sent over. I've ordered the pink, bruised berry, flash, and angel. So frustrating that they won't do them in a size 12 I asked lulu and they just ignored my comment. I just don't get it do they think we have bigger boobs in NZ and Aussie??? Weird they would sell soo many!!!!

Sadly, it is often true that 2's and 12's are forgotten. But being a 2 (as I am) has advantages. Stuff doesn't sell out as quickly right after the upload, and the 2's make it into WMTM more often frequently.

I could understand why they wouldn't make the bra in a 12- it is low support and low coverage and meant for smaller cups. Lulu offers different bras, like the Energy Bra or Tata Tamer for larger cup sizes. But it seems really strange that they would ONLY offer it on the Australian site? I personally am a 34C and don't really have a use for the bra- I wear tanks with built in bras for yoga and higher support bras for running. It is cute though!

@ anon 10:08 am - Check the lulu size chart on the Australian side of the site. The size 12 is an Aus size 16, so it's the real US/Canadian size 12.

Anonymous said...

Also- The No Limits tank on US size is only in sizes 4-10 but it goes from 2-12 on the Australian site. This is stranger than the Free to Be Bra! Why?!?

Yes I agree that the size 2s often make it to the WMTM section but I am upset they stopped making items completely in size 2, like the Energy Bra. When I called GEC they said it just isn't a popluar enough size. Just make 50 of them then and let them sell out then so that at least we get a chance at them!

I'm confused about the Energy Bra hype. I just excitedly tried one on today for the first time. But it was medium support *at best* for my 34Ds! I thought this bra was supposed to be another high impact support option for we busty girls? So far the only Lulu bra that I can use for running is my TaTa Tamer. I have Adjust Me and Cross Your Heart (or whatever it was called - in Paris Pink), but they are used solely for Barre class. I would also like another supportive option.
OT: do we think there's more product to come in angel blue? I just picked up the CRB, but I'd much rather have a run top that color. Any rumors?

@ anon 11:17 am - I think larger busted women like it because it's comfortable, offers good coverage, and decent support. So many of lulu's bras are low cut or have small cups. I don't use it to run but if I am doing something low impact, like weight lifting, then I wear it. I also like to layer it underneath other tanks with a built in bra for more support. I've seen smaller busted women wear it for running. My spin teacher likes to wear it alone with a pair of crops or shorts to teach class.

@ anon 11:17
description on lulu website states that energy bra support level is low

Julie said...

I can't run in an Energy bra either. Low support for my 34Cs.

Anon 11:17 here.
@ LLA, thanks for your insight!
@ 11:48, now that you mention it, I remember the website saying it was low support. The "hype" I was referring to was more from comments on this awesome blog. People LOVE the energy bra. And I thought some of those commenters were D's and DDs, but maybe they just use it for low impact.
Anyway, it doesn't work for me. I think the Adjust Me has way more support, though sadly still not enough for running. Oh well. Thanks for the replies y'all!

Wait. Anon 11:17, again. I just remembered: the hang tag on the Energy Bra... I swear it said "high impact"? Or perhaps I'm crazy.
Not that it really matters because I left it at the store. Some other E Bra lover will be so excited to have it. :)

One thing to add, for the larger busted ladies, I have found some great sports bras from Moving Comfort and Panache. Sadly, they really don't have the cute colors that lulu offers.

Im a true 38DD and size 10 in flow Y bras are too small. I ordered an energy bra in size 12 because of all the "hype" and it's a little roomy. A 10 probably would have fit me much better. I even put it in hot water and the dryer hoping to shrink it. LOL... I jump up and down with the energy bra on and I find for me...it's low to med. support. There's a lot of bouncing around! :( A little disappointed.....

AUS has a different sizing system... Im a size 6 and from what I understand I would be a 10 in AUS lululemon.

@ Anon 12:43 pm- look at the lulu size chart on the australian side of the webiste: http://info.lululemon.com.au/education/info/sizes?mnid=mn;education;size-chart

It says lululemon size 12 is Australian size 16 and the bust measurement is 101 cm. That is 39.8" which is right at US/Canadian size 12.

Ok... as an Australian who used to shop from the International website I can assure everyone who's confused that a size 6 Lululemon cool racerback in the US is exactly the same size as one in Australia. Lulu do NOT change there sizing system in other countries.
I do however find it hilarious that you guys complain about missing out on a few size 2 or 12's. We miss out on complete size ranges of heaps of new products... Turbo Tanks, Energy Bra's, Carry & Go Hoodies, Tea Lounge Crops just to name a few. Also we have no decent WMTM section! Not to mention the crazy inflated prices on our side of the website! Try having to pay 'ebay' prices everyday for a CRB or pair of Wunder Unders then you might really have something to complain about!!!

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Tea Lounge Crops. I just bought those! So cute and comfy!!! Husband does not need to know the price, though. ;)

Generally, lululemon products come in either 2-10 size runs or 4-12 (unless they are a core product that comes in sizes 2-12). So my best guess is that perhaps for the Free to Be Bra the sizing is a bit different despite what the size conversion chart says. Because they come 2-10 in the U.S.

Anonymous said...

A bit off topic here...just wondering if anyone placed an order from the website upload early Tuesday morning that is still "processing"? Mine usually ship same day, so I am wondering what's with the hold up...

Anonymous said...

every woman must be built differnt, because the energy bra (I am a size 34 D size 6 in lulu) I can use for hi impact activities, jumping running skipping rope they are not implants either. On the other hand the free to be bra doesn't work for me. I fall right out in 6 and the 8 is too lose

Anonymous said...

As a loyal aussie customer I can assure you all that Lulu do not change their sizes for aussie customers. We have to convert when were are in the store. Could you imagine the outrage if an Aussie based clothing company tried to operate in the US/Canada and didn't convert to the local size? There are lots of quirks and differences between the US and Aussies sites but it is by far in favor of the US side. I guess the US customers will always get the lower prices and greater range. We aussies have gotten used to it. Heck we can't even "live chat" to a customer rep in the US/Canada at a convenient time for us because of the time difference. When I ask them about aussie based products they are useless.

Hey larger busted ladies! While we are on the subject, has anyone been able to try the new high support bra that showed up online this week? I went to my store today to check it out but sadly they did not have it. I have this huge fear they they will phase out or "redesign" the TaTa Tamer which is the ONLY bra I can run in (although I do love the Energy for everyhing else). Would love to hear thoughts on the new one though!

Anonymous said...

Mine shipped at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Later than usual for me as well -Jenn

anon @ 3:17 - I would say it is prob because you are wearing a 6 in the energy bra. I am a 34B and wear a 6 in all lulu bras including the energy and a 4 in everything else (tanks, crops, pants).

@August 23, 2012 11:17 AM

I'm a 34D and the Energy Bra is my favorite for all workouts, including higher impact ones. Not sure why the style is not working for you, unless you're using it primarily for running. IMO This is LLL's most comfortable bra with, as LLA said above, decent support. I've used mine for crossfit, cycling, pilates, yoga, barre, aerobics, and more. Running gives me shin splints and doesn't do much for me other than bulk up my legs, so it's not my primary type of workout. Perhaps that's where the difference lies.

You can buy them in stores in size 12...they go fast though...but I promise you they are there!!!

LuluAddict said...

@ anon 8:53 pm - Thanks! I'm pretty sure my stores don't get them in 12s but I will be sure to start looking for them.
