Lulu at the Olympics

Check it out - US (!) Men's Beach Doubles team Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal is wearing lululemon. They are both elite lulu ambassadors.

Cool. I do have to say though ... and please, no disrespect to my American friends whatsoever, but shouldn't Lululemon be on a Canadian team? Kinda similar to Ralph Lauren having the USA Olympic uniforms made in China. Again, no disrespect to the USA, it just would have been nice to see it on one of our Candian athletes.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree and was wondering the same thing!

Anonymous said...

Yup.... was just thinking the same thing.

Minda said...

I view it as lamely as - a brand is a brand. Nike TYR Adidas Reebok UA - its everywhere- not just one particular country.
So why not Lulu too? There is no allegiances when cold hard cash is on the table! heheeeee

Minda said...

There ARE NO - allegiances... sorry nearly 1 am turning comp off now lol

Anonymous said...

pretty sure they have some Canadian athletes/elite ambassadors at the games as well.

Would be a bit ridiculous to discriminate against some athletes and not sponsor American teams, would it not??

Anonymous said...

Wow.....Is that an Olympic athlete wearing Nike? Oh yes!!! Is he from Oregon, USA? No!!!! Cheers to LLL-an international brand!! Woot woo!

OT: I finally caved and bought a Ray Tie and Fly because it was on sale. I'd been admiring it since it came out but wasn't sure, but I love a sale.

Anyway I can't remember anyone mentioning this specific item for bleeding/colour leeching. How careful do I need to be??

Thanks!

SeeAlliRun said...

@ Anon 11:32 PM, No bleeding/leeching from Ray, at least I haven't had any. I have the Wunder Unders and the CRB.

SeeAlliRun said...

Lululemon should do the Canada team wear like Roots did in the past. The Hudson's Bay stuff is sooo ugly.

I need to start watching more beach volleyball. Hotties! I love the Olympics!

Anonymous said...

Yea...At the end if the day, Lulu is just about the cold, hard, cash... (Just like any other company out there) Would have been nice tho...to see Lulu on a Canadian, I agree. In the beginning, the first few years....you could only buy Lulu in Canada and no one even knew what Lulu was. I remember wearing it and no one even knew what Lulu was! LOL And that when all the labels said, "made in Canada."

Anonymous said...

@ Anon 11:32
You made a great choice! I love my ray Tie and Fly. No bleeding issues here. I even bought this tank in Lilac after wearing Ray a few times. It's so cool and great for running!

Anonymous said...

@ Kristin,

I agree, those boys are yummy!!

Anonymous said...

Why is everyone so concerned about what country wears what from where...is not the whole point for it to be unified event to bring all countries together......

Anonymous said...

Why is everyone on this site always so negative.

Pink Peony 4 said...

I wonder if lulu did it because they are elite ambassadors? Also there's only two of them so it's economical. Maybe the Canadian govt needs to negotiate (tax break, etc) with lulu but with quality issues why bother right? I'm happy to see it on anybody in the olympics.
OT: in 2006 we went to tour Canada (rocky mountaineer train) and Vancouver was the last stop. We saw lots of Olympic stuff at Hudson bay but never thought anything of it. I of course realized they were about to host the winter olympics. I wish I had bought some souvenir so I can wear it now.
I love Canada. I will make a point to go back maybe for seawheeze one year?

Anonymous said...

@9:39, 9:48, 9:49 - that's silly. I'm Canadian and LLL can create Olympic clothes for whatever country invites them to do so, just as others have pointed out for Nike, Adidas etc. Think of it this way, there are many countries out there that do no have a home based global sports brand, so if they asked LLL, Roots, Nike etc. to create their Olympic (or other sports) gear, are those companies supposed to say "no, get someone from your own country"?

At the end of the day, whatever gear the Olympians (from all countries) happen to be in, I hope they love what they're wearing, that it's comfortable and helps them perform to their best with no annoyances...like chafing and colour bleeding!

The USA men's volleyball outfits look good.

Anonymous said...

@ Pink Peony 6:46 AM, thanks for the love! We love the USA as well and you have a beautiful country!

Heads up WMTM USA: there's a Flow & Go Tote now available in BLACK, and a BLISS BAG is back up in bold blossoms embossed dune. I got this bag on sale in Dune and I love it! I'm very careful with it but it has not always been able to be treated delicately (throwing it in the overhead bin when travelling), close quarters on transit, BUT it holds up extremely well and has not become dirty.

p.s. Run Wild Jacket has made a reappearance as well. Black & White in a number of sizes. I'm surprised the Run Nothin' to Hide Jacket is still available on wmtm...I got it on sale and it is awesome! I like it better than RWJ (which I didn't buy) but it's all a matter of personal preference.

Anonymous said...

The Bay isn't owned by Canadians anymore. No one has mentioned this. They still outfit our athletes. It would be great to see Lulu on any Olympian.

Anonymous said...

FYI you have to put in a "bid" to make official Olympic sponsored gear. The Bay wins every year because they're so "canadiana" etc. lulu put a bid in during the van Olympics and lost...I think they gave up since then. They also sponsor many elite ambassadors from Canada, many from the USA and a few international (I think)

Anonymous said...

Lululemon has elite level ambassadors in the Olympics for both the Canada and the US teams. There are also stores in Canada and the US... go figure.

Anonymous said...

Evelyn Stevens (US, Cycling) is also decked out in Lulu...

Anonymous said...

Yes The Bay may be not be Canadian owned anymore (as of 2008), but you cannot argue with its roots, which date back to May 2 1670. The Bay has done some decent wear but I think a lot of people really dug the Roots stuff. Contracts are often for more than one Olympics and The Bay was already on deck for these Olympics. The Bay has been renewed as the Olympic outfitter/sponsor through 2020.

Pink Peony 4 said...

While we are on the topic of the olympics, I noticed the USA swim team is not wearing the same gear. They used to have different cuts but you can tell they have a unified color and designs on the fabric. I just saw a girl wearing Arena that is gray and red stripes. Weird that this happens in the olympics also. It just makes it easy to spot an athlete when you are more aware of what you are looking for or at.

Good to know the input on bidding, etc. It makes sense. We all know at the end of the day it is the bottomline that looks you in the face. I love how knowledgeable our girls are here. I learn something everyday.
@Anon 7:21. I bought a bliss bag yesterday for xmas present. I love my menthol that I got from WMTM. Love, love... The Flow and Go is still pretty expensive.
Go team!!!

Anonymous said...

@ Pink Peony 9:21 AM, agree on the Flow & Go being too expensive. I really wanted it but from $128 to $109 it was not enough of a markdown for me. The Bliss Bag was a great markdown and I had scored that one so further could not justify the F&G. And NOW there's the OM tote, which I cannot justify either!

Anonymous said...

@anon 9:15....

I do agree with your statement about The Bay's roots; I just don't feel it has the same meaning anymore.

Anonymous said...

@ 10:50 AM - oh agreed. It's too bad they couldn't get it together and be progressive enough to be profitable in Canada and keep it truly Canadian. Unfortunately even with the great transformation (Toronto Queen St in particular), I still don't shop there. Hmm, who gets my $? LLL, Roots, Mexx, Banana Republic, sometimes Gap, sometimes Joe Fresh, and Esprit did (it sucks now that they exited NA). I am interested in the coming Target stores (mostly for home and housewares).

Anonymous said...

I read an article the other day about Joe Fresh expanding into the US. I think hey have some really cute stuff at amazing prices and all you American girls should be really excited!

Anonymous said...

are those tanks available for purchase?

Anonymous said...

@ 11:41 AM Joe Fresh is in the US in NYC and NJ. They have great fashion clothes and workout stuff! And YES JF is Canadian. Joe Mimran is the creator and owner (formerly of Club Monaco & Caban, both sold to Ralph Lauren...believe I have that straight). Kimberly Mimran is is wife - she's the creator of designer label Pink Tartan.

Check out this site for some great pics of stores and tracking of JF into NYC in particular

Sorry 11:41, wasn't sure if you are Canadian and wrote as if you aren't. Just aiming to be helpful with the JF info. for those not familiar with. Cheers!

@anon9:26am I know. The om tote is a must see fir me. I'm kind of a bag lady. My sister has the f&g tote in dune and loves it. 109 is barely a sale.

To the Canadians: I love roots! They have nice clothes and purses ( leather). I've bought some from salt lake city (ski vacay). They don't sell this here in TX that I know of. Sadly... Another thing I like is the sunscreen in higher SPF ( ombrelle) I think. FDA did not approve the ingredients (?) here in the US. You guys definitely have more stuff I like such as good coffee shops, friendly folks, Banff, lake Louise, whistler, Calgary ( stampede)...Lululemon And so on and so forth.

Anonymous said...

OT: i was looking over the LLL website (US side) earlier. some things seem almost disturbing. no CRBs--last time they did this, LLL increased the price. WU and Inspire crops that have been sitting there for weeks--hmmm, CT, MT, seams, and color bleed problems. more complaints than praise on most every item. the same WMTM for months. did the e-commerce division get sacked??? or is LLL going through a major restructuring or "do over"???

further, when i went into my local store, the sales staff (that's what they are--call a spade a spade) looked stressed despite having very few customers in the store. lots of new sales staff, too. i didn't see any of the usual gals that, sadly, know me by name. interesting...

Anonymous said...

Ok another OT break from Lulu.....other than the obvious high end shoulder bags, like LV, Prada, Kate Spade, Gucci, Coach and Versace...what is something handbag wise....thats HOT right now...that's maybe leather, a lot of celebs may love it, an all purpose shoulder bag...and is under $300. I'm looking for a new shoulder bag...and it's always the same ole,' same ole' out there.... Is there anything NEW out that's the rave right now?? I'm in Canada. Suggestions PLEASE!!! Thanks all! :)

MandyPots said...

We have a Joe Fresh in our mall (NY). I have walked through a few times, but nothing has really caught my eye. Is there something that they do well that I should check out and try on?

Anonymous said...

12:46 PM. Interesting question. We've noticed most CRB's disappearing. US side currently has black and white CRB's, Canadian side has black, white and inkblot...some patterns of CRB's were moved to wmtm last week. It would be a very bad move to increase the price of the CRB! Maybe they are just getting ready to introduce a bunch of great colours we've been hoping for?

Anonymous said...

@ 12:50 the Olivia bag-prince from Roots is awesome! It comes in black, dark brown and in store a light beige/dune colour(more for summer or if you're in a summer type place). It looks like the Marc Jacobs one except there's no plaque on the outside. Have it in black and I love it! Very Classic. It is also Made In Canada.
http://canada.roots.com/NewOliviaBagPrinceLeather/WomensMidSizedLeatherBags//18011075,default,pd.html?cgid=leatherShoulderBags&selectedColor=001

@ MandyPots - JF does some classic stuff, dressy stuff, they will do trendy stuff, the have limited edition items a.k.a. Runway...their lookbook/on-line does not give a true sense of everything they have.

Most of it is VERY economical (t's sweaters, pants, jeans, dresses), some of the runway stuff is more pricey but not crazy. Work out gear is great (you can mix it with your LLL), and things like their pajamas are so cute and indispensable. In Canada it goes fast! so you have to stop by regularly. It is well made too!

Anonymous said...

In regards to the CRB, I think they're just clearing out the old stuff to make room for the new patterns and colors we've had a glimpse of. We are getting to the time where the fall stuff is making its appearance. I would bet its just seasonal turnover. I sure hope they're not upping prices! I'm not sure how much more we're expected to pay for a basic tank.

I usually find a few Joe Fresh things that are cute. You do have to do some searching but it's worth it when you can find a great top for $10 or $12. They have some cute workout wear and I really like their kids clothes. I saw a jacket there the other day that was extremely similar to my Weather or Not Jacket and it was only $79.

Thank you 1:03. I am a fan of some Roots clothing, but their shoulder bags....I find stiff. I'm a lover of soft buttery leathers. Also, any suggestions would be great...the shoulder bag DOEST have to be leather. Just looking for a new shoulder bag...that is a must have! :)

Anonymous said...

I figure..if you all can get me obsessed over buying Frye boots....and these were my very first pair, you all can get me obsessed over a new kind of shoulder bag! LOL.... from one obsession...to yet another! ;)

sarahdee said...

I would recommend Rebecca Minkhof bags, the leather is very soft and buttery and the styles are edgy but classic at the same time. I think several celebrities own them as well so it sounds like what you may be looking for

Anonymous said...

@ 1:42 PM, 1:03 again, always love to share the good stuff/recs! Know what you mean on some Roots stuff but Olivia bag is definitely soft! Not stiff at all and gets softer over time. Recommend you see it in person if possible.

Minda said...

Speaking of Frye. I finally decided and bought my happy birthday to me boots. Dark brown Mimi scrunch frye. 181$ zappos. According to the tracker my boots just left Louisville and will be here tomorrow!!!! I spent so much time reading reviews and asking friends opinons. I don't know why this choice was so hard to make! Maybe because they are expensive and I never had fryes before. I couldn't decide between Mimi scrunch, Veronica slouch or Melissa button back zip!! Lol I will have to save up and get the Veronica slouch next. But they are very spendy so I don't know when that will be! The cross body bags look pretty cool and rustic!! I didn't see price though as I wasn't payin attention to that. Oh Macy's put out these cute 49$ booties in tan. I tried them on today and really wanted to be super cute in booties!!! Unfortunately they made me look kind of stumpy. Which is odd because I have fairly long legs!! Lol floridians in boots. Hilar! But ts fun to try!

Anonymous said...

minda....I loooove my Veronica Slouch boots in dark brown. It was because of the ladies on here...I had to byway a pair!! LOL.... and then....my husband found out! LOL... OOPS!! Thanks 2:02 about that brand...I will check it out! :) xo

Oh and THANKS 2:09! :) Keep the suggestions coming... I'm googling them all!

Pink Peony 4 said...

@anon1:42 pm. You might try to check Gilt.com. They have what's now and a variety of prices. They are based in NY. I have seen Pour La Victoire bags, Rebecca Minkoff, Kate Spade, etc. Some are really spendy but they have ones that aren't. You just need to sign up and be a member but not hard. I live where there is a huge outlet mall so I get to check out Prada, Tory Burch, Gucci, Neiman's etc for whatever is there. They still are pretty pricey for everyday use. Do you want a designer/ Name brand bag? Lucky brand has soft leather goods too.

BTW anon 12:18 pm: I love Pink Tartan. I've only seen it on Gilt.com. Thanks for the heads up on JF.

Anonymous said...

I have many of the designer brands already and I'm bored with that. LOL.... I was looking for something different, but nice and oracticle....under $300 kind of thing.... thanks 3:25! :)

@ anon 4:43, it's 1:03/2:09, how about Matt and Nat? Always cool and practical.
http://mattandnat.com/

Michael Kors is great and his handbags are very hot right now...by my own observation I suggest his brand is the new "Coach", i.e. seems more popular right now. Under $300 possibly but easy to go over.

Awesome Pink Peony on the liking Pink Tartan.

Do you ladies think a Power Y will be released in caspian blue? Should I wait for it? Or get the Scoop me Up in caspian, just to be safe?

:(

Anonymous said...

hmmmmm.... I'm looking for a bag....that looks something like the Chloe bag, but minus the $2800 price tag or a med sized shoulder bag, with soft leather, like a slouchie kind of bag. Not hobo style... I checked out Matt & Nat and not quite what I'm looking for. I will look up Pink Tartan in the morning. :) Every time I see a purse and go, "ohhhhhh...it's always got the $2,000 and up price tag...." There's gotta be something cheaper out there! LOL Thanks 5:91! :)

Funny, in one pic the Lulu logo is red & in the other, the logo is white. I like the idea of native companies making the gear for their Olympic teams, such as Nike doing USA, Adidas doing Germany's, etc, but it's not always viable. I thought it was weird the year Roots did our (USA) opening ceremony outfits for the Winter Games. I get that money is a driving force in the decision & in the end it doesn't really matter that much, I just think it'd be nice.

I don't get why it's a big deal that our opening ceremony outfits were made in China as I'd bet that most of the competition clothes are too. What isn't made there these days? Does Nike make anything in the USA? It would be neat if all the Olympic clothes were made in-country, but in today's world, that just doesn't seem realistic to me.

on another topic, I have a huge review from my CA trip, but like I said.......it's huge, so I haven't posted it yet.

OT - I just got my order from last week's upload today and I love the currant WUC. The color is so vibrant and just as I imagined it to be. It's triangle gusset (not a problem for me) and not sheer (although I usually wear no VPL, nude undies, tag was not visible in bend test). I will wash them later and see if it bleeds. *crossing fingers*

I also got the Caspian NLT (love!) and the silver Venus tank -- good thing I read reviews and sized up. I'm usually 6-8 in tanks but for Venus I got a 10 and I felt like it fit like a 6.

On bags: Radley! beautiful, beautiful leather crafted bags from the UK and very reasonable price for the divine quality you get. The leather is always buttery soft.

Minda said...

I like that all the stuff we seem to adore the most is always described as "buttery soft"! I like my crbs buttery soft! Same as my handbags boots jeans foundation garments towels bed sheets and lipstick! Okay see ya! Add commas where appropriate!

Anonymous said...

I just went 3 times to the Radley USA website.....and it kept freezing up my iPad. not sure what's wrong with their site, but I could do anything. The minute I get on their site, my screen freezes.... :( The bags look very nice. I might try again in a few hours... Thanks!!!

"couldn't"

Anonymous said...

Did anyone have any problems with current currant (sorry, couldn't resist the pun) items bleeding. My Superficial Endeavours blog reported that the currant energy bra bled all over her white mesh CRB. She posted pics. I had speculated (and so did others) that LLL was bringing back older colours to avoid the bleeding issues they have been plagued with. My currant items from the first release did not bleed. If the new batch are bleeders, then it's even more disappointing.

Anonymous said...

MORE STITCHING DEFECTS!

I think that the ls currant swiftly disappeared from the site because of stitching defects. I was going to take the tags off and then I realized that the center front neckline section of stitching is coming undone. I was a little bummed since the stores don't have one to exchange for. I would still like more pieces in my wardrobe but I think I'm going to take a little break from buying LLL. I'll just live vicariously though you guys.

I also looked up Pink Tartan....but from what I could tell, they didn't have a lot of bags avail.-- they have mostly desinger clothes. Also I'm in Canada, so it has to be a company that ships to Canada. Thanks for Danier suggestion!! Didn't see what I was looking for.

Anonymous said...

ugh, i just got back from a week long chicago vacation. i got the chance to visit three lulu stores (2 downtown and 1 in the burbs). i returned 5 things and bought ZERO. all stores seemed pretty stocked. i was at the checkout counter with a made in canada pow pink crb when the clerk (sorry educator) told me to pre-wash it seperately, blah blah blah (basically it's a bleeder) so i basically said no thank you and left. i also saw a white and silver define with absolutely horrible stitching and pow pink defines with okay stitching, but the white mesh is so freaking ugly and you can see it when you put it on/take it off.

Anonymous said...

LLL has expanded exponentially over the last year and now into the "international" market. Obviously, they aspire to make LLL an "international" brand. Thus, it would be in LLL's best interest to reach out to the "international" community, which for a Canadian-based company would also include the USA, in order to increase brand awareness. The USA Men's Volleyball team is the defending Olympic Gold Medal Champion, therefore, it's a good business move to get the #1 seeded USA Men's VolleyBall team to wear your brand. Good to see that LLL is making some wise business decisions. As for those of you who are trying to make this into some type of USA vs Canada competition, let's keep that on the Olympic playing field. The two teams are in different pools, so perhaps that matchup will play out in the Olympic Men's Volleyball finals :) Our two country's have managed to co-exist nicely while sharing the same continent for many years, so let's try to not create an imaginary competition over LLL attire.

4:14...are you near great Winners locations? By that I mean the ones that get some of the great designer stuff...that is still pricey even when at Winners. I don't think you want to go after a full price Badgley Mischka but I have seen their handbags end up at Winners (Toronto College Park Location) the odd time for $300 or so, just a thought...

On the Venus tank: whew, I will not dare put another one on. The last time I did I got claustrophobic. I thought I'd never be able to take it off. It was unyielding.
More purses: gilt has Kooba and Botkier right now within the price range. Leather and marked down. Check ruelala also. Good luck!
I was going to tell you guys that I talked myself into buying a MD Will pants when I went to the store. I have never owned one before but was pleasantly surprised. I did not know Will is a cross between WU and Still pants. It did feel like it and I like both of those. It is thicker material and higher in the waist. I think I will be returning the new tanks I bought in caspian and power purple, not loving the looks of it. I handwashed a few Paris pink (NLT), pow pink and flash before use. I'm over the extra step bec of bleeding. I don't want to be that careful with LLL .

Anonymous said...

@ Pink Peony 6:34, thanks for pointing that out about the Will Pant. I didn't realize that either until you mentioned and then I pulled then up on line and it does say that. I don't think I would pay full price for them....honestly I don't need another pair of pants. I do need some new running tights for Winter though. And since they're making a cross between the WU and Still Pant, why did they have to stop making the Still Pant?!

Ok, so, what are we expecting from tonight's upload? The new pacesetters are all I'm really aware of. It seems like Lulu's been dropping less hints. Or I am the only one thinking that?

OT, does anyone want to sell a size 8 Mirage pacesetter skirt? Sorry, if this is not cool to post on the LLA blog. I'm being so tempted by eBay, but all the sellers with this item are the people buying out the Monday night uploads for a profit and I don't want to give my money to them!!!!

I like Hobo International purses. Great, soft leather and beautiful colors and styles.

My currant LS swiftly did not feel as soft as my other swiftlys. It did not bleed when washed and it did soften a bit but still had such an odd feeling when I first received it. Stitching was fine too.

On the fence about the currant WU. I love them but not sure how much wear I will get out of them.

Got to go to the South Coast Plaza store this weekend. Picked up a LS Swiftly in Porceline, NLT in white/Blazer fossil (so cute!) and TTT. I was surprised by how much new stuff they had! Currant WU, Currant Energy Bras, lots of Caspian... unfortunatly no Caspian NLT in my size. It was funny, though, that I felt like I knew more about the new stuff from here and all of you wonderful ladies!! hmmmm....

I am on the fence about the two new Pacesetters that were posted this weekend. Would I rather buy the purple one or the caspian striped one? I can't justify both, so I'm trying to figure out which one I'd be more likely to wear.

What tops would you wear with each one?

Hey, Ashley! Pure Barre is so fantastic. Get ready for your toughest workout ever! Don't be intimidated by the warm-up... Holding plank for a minute and a half! Whew! Sometimes that's hardest part of the 55 minutes. PB requires you to wear pants or crops (no shorts) and socks. They will probably offer to sell you the official PB socks at the studio with the grippy dots on the bottom, but feel free to try out a class in your regular socks before spending the $. (they do help though) The uniform at my studio is pretty much LLL WUs or WUCs and a CRB, Power Y, or NLT.
Way to go for signing up! Hope you love it!!!

How did this topic jump from athletes to buying bags and boots from Zappos.com? Sheesh, some of you women are very shallow.
As much as I hate to see brand logos on athletes, American dollars have power so why not have them on American Athletes? No matter where in the world the games are being aired, the USA gets more air time than any other country which makes it more fitting to put a logo on our athletes.
