UPDATE: Wow. ABC7 now reports that the person arrested by police is the unidentified 27-year-old woman who survived the attack. According to that report, police believe she caused her own wounds after killing Murray inside the store on March 11.
Montgomery County police have arrested one suspect in connection with the rape and murder of 30-year-old Jayna Murray. Murray and another woman, who survived, were both sexually assaulted and beaten after closing the Lululemon Athletica store on Bethesda Avenue last Friday. ABC7 is reporting that the person police have taken into custody was someone known to at least one of the victims. The woman who survived told police that two men were responsible for the crime.

Needless to say, I will refund everyone's donations back to them immediately. Jayna's family set up a foundation in her name. Here is the information on how to donate directly.

This just baffles me. It's disgusting! I'm so glad it's been solved...but wow..

Wow. I didn't see that coming!

At this time, my thoughts and prayers goes to Jayna and her family/friends...

This is sick!!! So sad for Jayna's family.

SICK. It did seem odd that what looked planned (masked perps) happened because of accidental/coincidental timing when the girls went back AFTER closing. Now it is clear that as an inside job the evil employee asked Jayna to return to the store for a forgotten item only to walk into a death trap. I hope the people responsible never see the light of day again.

Whaaaaaaaaat!?!?! Sick people in this world unfortunately.... I want to know WHY!? Lulu must be so embarassed to find out it was one of their employees who did this.... This is just aweful!!!

this is insanity. like a freaking CSI episode. i feel sickened since i actually felt pity for the "poor girl." seriously? rot in hell.

Wow, that is just awful. I did find it odd that the one girl survived--if they assaulted both of them, why let one live (as awful as that sounds). I was glad someone survived, even though it must've been horrific. But the fact that this girl would go to such lengths to try to get away with her crime? Words can't describe.

I hate to admit it but I figured the other girl was involved in some way. I come from a policing family and ever thing I have been taught just made me question the whole sittuation. I am so saddened for Jayna's family and I hope they can make it through this difficult time.

Exactly! Why would the masked rapists only kill one? Even if it was an accident, their thought process would have probably been to eliminate the eye witness. Plus, I also thought it was odd for one to call the other to go back into the store. I actually wondered if the evil employee planned to have her friends come and rob the place, but the whole sexual assault part is odd. Where does that factor in? Was it a one person job? Or was there actually another man involved? She's clearly a nut and it's scary to think that these kind of people exist among us and we would never know.

well, i too noticed that one survived, however i assumed that the other girl died as a RESULT of her beatings and the other just happened to not have had the same "head injury" or whatever. i didn't think the masked men INTENTIONALLY murdered her and left the other alive, just that since it took so long to get help the girl died from injuries. it never occured to me that the other did it.

Oh never mind, I just read the article and no evidence of sexual assault was found. Seriously, did she think that forensic scientists/police specialist wouldn't figure that out? I hope it was an accident. . . with an elaborate cover up and that it wasn't actually planned.

Good point, anon 5:12. The whole thing was just so weird. The randomness was disturbing, but the reality is just as bad.

You have to wonder if Jayna and Britney had somekind of "hidden relationship" -since Jayna was supposed to move, to be with her boyfriend in May, it is possible that the murderer was jealous, so much so, that she did the unthinkable. Crimes seem to get more brutal when there is "love" involved.

OMG - that is horrible my thoughts and prayers for her family. I hate to say it but the story seemed so fishy and I had a feeling something like this happened. It was just too weird! I am still shocked. :(

George, I don't think it was an accident as police report Jayna's injuries as being "catastrophic" in nature and that even seasoned veterans were rattled by what they saw. :(

Ohhhhh my... I'm shocked. If anything could make this whole awful thing more sad, that's probably it... I just can't stop thinking about this whole thing. Does anyone else feel like that too? I keep thinking of how truly horrible and terrifying poor Jayna must have been. I have never been in the Bethesda store and never had the pleasure of meeting Jayna, but it just hits so close to home, you know? Lululemon has this wonderful sense of community, even among people you don't know- all you have to do is read these blog or the various Facebook pages to see how tightly knit, friendly and supportive this community really is- I feel like we lost a member of this community. I am just heartbroken for Jayna, my heart goes out to her friends and family.

At the same time, I'm completely disgusted that someone could do something so heinous, and I'm angry that so many people opened their hearts to someone who could do such a horrible, disgusting thing. So many people worried so much about this woman and reached out to her, said countless prayers for her and donated money to help her get back on her feet. I didn't think the situation could get much more devastating, but this definitely does it.

*should say how terrified Jayna must have been

Ugh. In her mug shot, Brittany Norwood is wearing the In Stride (?) jacket in coal that I wanted. Well, it's prison garb for her now.

How could anyone do something so brutal? What could be so bad that she had to torture and kill Jayna? It's probably a work thing. I reckon that's the only thing they have in common.

I think love was probably involved and am very curious to know what really happened. It can't be something like who stole who's groove pants. But you never know, people are crazy!

Here is a link to a story run by the Washington Post this morning, it was on the front page when I woke up.

The story was kind of weird from the beginning. Why would masked men choose to rob a Lululemon store when the much more lucrative Apple store was right next door? It's not like Lulu deals in a lot of cash or the products can be sold for a big profit. The motive of robbery just seemed weird. I initially thought sexual assault was the motive and the persons involved had to be some sort of monsters to beat a pair of strange women.

I am extremely curious to find out what pissed Norwood off so much that she beat another person to death and will now spend the rest of her life in prison over it. It's also so weird that a woman did this to another woman. I wonder if she was on drugs.

does anyone know if there were any security cameras around that could have shown anything?

Anonymous said...

I am from the area and learned early after the events that there were no surveillance cameras in the store to assist the investigation which I must say shocked and angered me. Clearly the suspect knew this. Had there been cameras perhaps this could have been prevented.

i think the way you titled this is in the format of low grade gossip
