3 Set Tank - Newest Acquisition

I recently bought the 3 Set Tank in the color combo (Pretty Pink/Persimmon) shown above. What is interesting about the tank I got versus the one I tried on in the store a couple of months ago is that the top two layers are made of luxtreme/lullure while the bottom is made of Luon. This makes this particular top very breathable and lightweight. As a bonus, this color combo coordinates with a pair of quilted Groovin' Tie Crops I bought last summer so I guess Lululemon likes to re-use the same colors under different names.

The top is definitely a low support tank for larger breasted women. Using bra cup cookies helps give the top more structure and support. This tank would be fine for low impact activities such as yoga or weight lifting. However, the design is such a classic that I bought this top to use primarily as street wear rather than gym wear. In fact, I wore it to my son's little league game today since it was in the 80s here in SoCal.

Features:
  • 3 Set of your workout routine never felt so easy before!
  • Medium-low support tank
  • Semi-fitted follows our curves but doesn't hug them too tight
  • Wider straps are comfortable and do not dig into shoulders during activitity
  • Longer length tank prevents any peek-a-boo while working out
  • Brushed Silverscent bra elastic that is wicking & anti-stink
  • Made with luon, our signature fabric
  • Chafe resistant - flat seams

The Spark Tank is Back!!!! (Maybe)

Someone from Minnesota just put this Spark Tank up for sale on eBay stating that it part of Lululemon's 2009 Spring collection. The colors certainly look like they could be from the current season. The built in bra doesn't look like it has the pockets to hold the cookies like I thought all of the newer tops have but I can't be sure from the photos. If this is from the current season, this is
big, Big, BIG! news to all Lululemon addicts.

As all Lululemon Addict's know, there is a huge Lululemon market on eBay for both new and used Lululemon items. Among the hardest items to get is the Spark Tank which regularly go for over retail when new and for almost as much as retail when used. I have a couple of Spark Tanks and find them very comfortable and flattering. However, the thing that really makes this top is the sexy open back. I could go on and on about this top - comfortable, flattering, supportive, cool, etc. but just do yourself a favor and get one.

Want it - Move Tank

I swear I saw the Move Tank being modeled in one of my product alerts but I can't find it in my In Box. Maybe the photo was on their Facebook page. Dang!

It's hard to tell from the stock photo but it has double adjustable straps that give it a layered look. I would think that would translate into extra support for larger busted gals. I cannot wait to try this on!

Features:
  • Feeling hot? A yoga tank ideal for hot weather and hot workouts
  • Adjustable bra straps for individual comfort & support
  • Shelf bra with pockets for removable cups
  • Brushed Silverescent™ bra elastic that is wicking & anti-stink
  • Certified organic cotton yarn was used to make this fabric
  • Preshrunk
  • Chafe resistant - flat seamed

Romp Her in Real Life

I found a picture of a real life person modeling the Romp Her (in a size 10). It doesn't look that bad though it is hard to see what is going on in the crotch area and how it looks from behind - the areas you would think would be the likeliest to have fit problems.

Wrap Tech

Lululemon updated their website with new photos of their tanks. They happened to put one up of the Wrap Tech tank in the print I bought - Wet Rose - so I thought I would post it. I am a total sucker for bright prints - they just energize me. (One thing I don't get is why Lululemon posts photos of so many of their tanks in black. It's really hard to see the details of the top with a small black photo)

The Wrap Tech is one of my favorite shirts to wear for spin. It's made of very lightweight Luxtreme and the upper back is covered with mesh for cooling. I wear a Deep V bra under it but I have seen it displayed in the store with a Flow Y in a contrasting color.

Features:
  • A perfect technical tank top for running!
  • Mesh front neckline panel for extra coverage
  • Mesh side panels & back panel for increased ventilation
  • Side pocket to secure money & keys
  • Made from luxtreme fabric with superior quick wicking properties
  • Preshrunk
  • Chafe resistant - flat seamed
  • Lycra® in fabric to hold its shape

Try On Review - Groove Down Crop

Although I am a big fan of the Groove Crop I can't find any love for the Groove Down Crop. They looked kinda cool on the hanger - an extra long contrasting waist that you can fold over to make different looks. However, once on, they just ended rolling right back up. I have a pair of Lucy pants that are designed the same way and do the same thing. Frankly, I can't see having an extra double layer of fabric at the tummy that will just bunch up under my top or unravel all the way to my boobs. For those ladies for whom this design works, the more power to you. I'll stick to the regular Groove Crop.

Verdict: Meh - Sale rack only.

Features:
  • Get down in your Groove Down Crops
  • Made with luon, our signature fabric
  • REVERSIBLE - your get 2 different looks!
  • Adjustable rise for athletic bending
  • Smooth, flat waistband

Relaxed Fit Short (I & II) - My Favorite Short!

I have a few different styles of Lululemon shorts - Still Short, Hot Yoga Short, Spin Short - but my favorites have to be the Relaxed Fit Short. I own four pairs of them. I love wearing these shorts around the house on hot summer days. These shorts fit snug over your bottom and looser in the leg. The looser leg is great for those of us with "athletic" thighs. The waistband is wide, flat, and double layered which helps flatten your tummy.

I have a couple of pairs in the Tall version because I wanted more coverage for the gym. Moreover, the regular length hits me at the widest point of my thigh and tends to ride/bunch up on me -YMMV. Going up a size doesn't help; it just results in the extra fabric at the crotch giving me a polterwang. For me, the tall version of these shorts is perfect. Since I am 5'5" the tall version is like wearing slightly short, really comfortable bike shorts that don't cut off the blood in my thighs trying to stay in place. In my size, the regular version has a ~ 3.5" inseam and the tall version has a ~7" inseam.

The Lululemon website lists both a version I and II of the Relaxed Fit short. From comparing the shorts in my drawer the differences I can see are: version I has the drawstring tie outside the short and the II has the tie on the inside. Also, version I has a diamond shaped gusset at the crotch and version II has a small triangular shaped gusset that starts from the midpoint back. Both versions have a pocket attached to the waistband on the inside for your keys or ipod.

Verdict: Worth paying full price.

PS - A word to the wise, if you dig through to the bottom of the pile of the Relaxed Fit shorts in your local Lululemon store you can often find these marked down - especially for discontinued colors. (Actually, that advice probably works for most any pant except Groove Pants) Three out of my four pairs I have gotten for 40-50% off the list price of $48.

Features:
  • Relaxed fit for high impact sport
  • Drawsting at waist to customise your fit
  • Interior pocket for keys and $
  • Coolmax gusset designed for sport
  • Chafe free-flat seams

Not So Low Tank - Love It!!!

I wrote about this tank awhile ago but Lululemon has the Not So Low Tank back on it's website (and it has arrived locally at the Irvine and Chino Hills stores). I got this tank a couple of months ago at the Newport store. It is one of my favorites for spin class. It is made of lightweight, breathable luxtreme but unlike the Fit Tank and Swift tank it is very supportive to those with a larger bust. I think part of it is due to the fact the bust area is mde up of three layers. There is the built in bra, then a mesh under layer, and then the top itself. It's hard to tell in the stock photo but the mesh gives a neat layered look to the top. This really shows up in the Pow Pink/Hydrangea Stripe (shown above) and Royale/Blueberry color combos. Additionally the straps are wide to hold you up. There is nice accent stitching under the bust to highlight your curves. The armpits are cut high so no worries about armpit fat or sideboob issues. The back is cut low for cooling but not bra strap low like the Embracer Tank from last summer. The front dips enough to expose a hint of cleavage. I really love how Lululemon can make a top that is very feminine and accents your curves in an understated way but is really functional for tough workouts. I love this top!

Features:
  • A lightweight tank built for a big bust & small waist!
  • Front mesh panel increases coverage
  • Built-in shelf bra for medium support
  • Shelf bra with pockets for removable cups
  • Brushed Silverescent™ bra elastic that is wicking & anti-stink
  • Made from luxtreme fabric with superior quick wicking properties
  • Chafe resistant - flat seamed

Whisper Tank Pinstripe

When I want to feel like a million bucks I wear my pinstriped Whisper Tank. Lululmeon uses pinstripes a lot in their designs, usually in the fall collections. The whisper tank is a classic look - very feminine without showing a lot of skin. It even makes the mannequin look good! The Whisper has a built in bra with cups and Lululemon calls it a medium support tank. It you are large busted you will flash a good amount of cleavage.

Oooh, tie dye!

Look what showed up on the website today! Did I not just post about wishing Lululemon offered tie dye prints like Hard Tail and Pink Lotus? Cool!

Romp "Her"

Hmmm. I guess I applaud Lululemon's willingness to try new things but maybe they could try bringing back favorite classics like the Spark Tank and the old version of the Extend pants without the saddle ass instead of straight-to-markdown stuff like this. How do you go to the bathroom without plopping the top part in the toilet?

Features:
  • A yoga 1 piece that is no fuss
  • Stretch, twist, move & turn without showing too much skin!
  • Snap closure hem for individual adjustment
  • Built-in shelf bra with pockets for removable cups
  • Brushed Silverescent™ bra elastic that is wicking & anti-stink
  • Certified organic cotton yarn was used to make this fabric
  • Preshrunk

Try on Review - Track Tech

The Track Tech is the latest short sleeve shirt in Lululemon's running line. I own a couple of the previous models - the Sunrise Tech and the Interval Tech - and I love them. It is made of stretchy, lighweight, breathable Silverescent. You wear your own bra underneath it. It is a very pretty shirt, cut to emphasize your curves but loose enough to aid movement and air flow. It has mesh panels on the upper back and midsection for cooling. A great shirt for when you want max cooling but not maximum exposure.

Features:
  • Lightweight performance top for your toughest workouts
  • Anti-stink & anti-static
  • Silverescent™ using X-Static, the silver fibre
  • Mesh paneling for extra air flow
  • Hidden pocket fits your credit cards perfectly
  • Preshrunk
  • Chafe resistant - flat seams
  • Wicking

Awesome Water Bottle - Camelbak Better Bottle

Besides my iPod, my favorite piece of gym equipment, is my Camelbak Better Water Bottle. It is made of Tritan copolyester, is BPA-free, and you can put it in the dishwasher. My favorite thing about the bottle is that has a straw so you don't have to tip the bottle up to get a drink. This comes in handy if, like me, you tend to easily loose your balance on the elliptical or bike. You also don't have to pull out a valve before you can drink; you just bite down on the straw. (I've pinched the inside of my lip closing one of those typical sports bottle valves.) It has a wide mouth so you can fill the bottle with ice. It's not really 100% leakproof when tipped sideways or upside down so watch how you place it your gym bag. If you load it with ice, it will sweat but Camelback makes a nifty bottle cozy for about $10. They also have replacement parts for the top, valve, and straw which I find at my local REI store. It comes in three sizes - 16 oz, 25 oz, and 32 oz and tons of colors. The 25 oz is $14

Features:

  • Made of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester, the bottle is completely BPA-free and is dishwasher safe
  • Tritan™ copolyester provides excellent impact resistance and is suitable for both warm and cold beverages
  • Bypass the potential hazards of drinking from wide openings—the CamelBak Big Bite valve virtually eliminates spills
  • Just bite and sip and the beverage flows through the valve—you don't even need to tip the bottle to drink
  • But if lifting and tipping is your preferred method, no problem; just remove the straw inside
  • Big Bite valve has an articulating stem, so when not in use it folds down next to the bottle and stays clean
  • Carry the integrated handle in the crook of a finger, or connect it to a pack or waistbelt with a small carabiner
  • Simply unscrew the cap to uncover bottle's wide-mouth opening for easy filling and cleaning; standard cap size fits many other wide-mouth bottles
  • Specially shaped bottle fits nicely in your hand and accommodates most automobile cup holders
  • All components are dishwasher safe (top rack only); do not microwave

My New Tri Y Tank - Mix A Lot Print

Found a photo of the Tri Y tank I got this week. This is the Mix A Lot print. It matches the flower on the Hills Crop. The black stripe in the straps looks really sharp with black pants. I don't usually buy white tops because the armpits yellow and I invariably end up staining them with my pre- or post-workout coffee but I thought this was a pretty print. I like Lululemon's prints a lot. I would love it if they came out with tie dye inspired prints similar to Pink Lotus and Hard Tail.

A Classic - Shape Jacket

My favorite jacket is my Shape Jacket. I have the pattern shown in the photo at the right. It is fitted to your curves so it swoops in at your waist and is cut lower in the front and back than at the sides to accommodate your hips. A very feminine jacket and comfortable jacket.

PS - Barb from the TV show New Adventures of Old Christine had on an apple green Shape Jacket in one re-run I watched lately. I also spotted a men's Lululemon Jacket on an episode of Supernatural. Cool!

Features:
  • All sport warm up jacket for all body shapes
  • Made with luon, our signature fabric
  • Great for the gym or going down to the barn to feed the chickens
  • Chin protecting zip garage
  • Front zip pockets to secure $ & keys
  • Chafe resistant - flat seams

Headband Addiction

I have a serious Lululemon headband addiction problem. Even my husband has noticed it. I believe I am closing in on around 20 headbands. I can't help it, I must have one to match my tops. I tried doing spin class once without a headband and not only did the bangs bouncing on my forehead bug the heck out of me but I had to use my towel a lot more because the headband usually soaks everything up. Doing spin without a headband meant I became one of those drippy puddle people. Ewww.

The latest headband I bought was the Superwide Headband in the pattern pictured above from a Canadian seller on ebay but I saw it in my local store today. I have nearly all the other models- the Slipless, the plain old Luon, the Mesh, and the Dance. I find the Mesh and the Dance the most comfortable. Although I have a tapered luon one that is really nice. I can't wait to get my hands on the braided Free Spirit yet but haven't seen them locally. I'm waiting for Pow Pink, Bluebell, and Sangria to show up.

I'm not that thrilled about the Superwide. It is basically a scrap of luon without finished edges that is sewn together in the back. When it first came in the mail I thought it was some warehouse outlet sample but I saw them in the Newport store today. I dunno, Lululemon, for $14 you could finish the edges.

New Acquisition - Distance Pant

In my quest for lightweight pants for spin class, I picked up a pair of new Nightmarket blue Distance Pants on ebay from a girl in Texas for less than half the retail price. The Distance Pants are very similar to the Hills Crops in that have a mesh insert along the side of the the thigh but are made of all Luxtreme (instead of the heavier luon on the backside). They have a little flare at the bottom so they give you a nice silhouette but not so much that you trip yourself up running or on the elliptical. The pants are so lightweight I almost feel exposed when I am wearing them. I'm going to be on the lookout for some Distance Pants in black since the blue luxtreme doesn't quite hide the cottage cheese on the back of my thighs. However, they will be perfect for late evening walks or runs. The Newport store had them but were out of my size. I'm hoping they'll show up on the e-commerce site in April.

Features:
  • Sleek and feminine, this pant makes anyone want to start running!
  • Made from Luxtreme fabric with inherent quick wicking properties
  • Power luxtreme on the bum keeps you feeling firm, less bouncy, and strong
  • Mesh panel for ventilation
  • Lengthened gusset to prevent inner thigh chafing
  • Inner pockets for $ & keys
  • Chafe resistant - flat seamed

Latest Item of Lust - Circuit Tech

I tried on the Circuit Tech today and really liked it. It's from Lululemon's running line and is very lightweight, breathable, and a flattering silhouette. The only reason I didn't get it today was that I opted to get another pair of Hills Crops (found them in black in Irvine!) instead. I liked the color scheme (persimmon and kiss) shown in the picture best. I'll have to get a Flow Y bra to wear underneath since there is no built in bra. I could wear a Deep V but the racer back of the bra is wider than the back of the Circuit Tech and having the bra show would detract from the cute detail on the back of the shirt. I'll be keeping my eye on this top on future shopping trips.

Features:
  • Lightweight singlet perfect for extra sweaty exercise!
  • Anti-stink & anti-static
  • Silverescent™ using X-Static, the silver fiber
  • Mesh paneling for extra air flow
  • Hidden pocket fits your credit cards perfectly
  • Preshrunk
  • Chafe resistant - flat seams
  • Wicking

Why I am a Lululemon Addict

I've read quite a few financial analysts comparing Lululemon to other athletic wear brands such as Lucy, Athleta, Under Armour, Nike, Addidas, Danskin, etc. and come away saying Lululemon's product is not superior. They also often mention Lululemon's 'cult' like following.

Lululemon is primarily made for women who are athletically active. I suspect most analysts are men and don't often do anything athletic on a regular basis. Since I am a woman, work out several times a week, and have tried products from all of the companies I listed I actually have a basis for comparison. Let me enumerate the many ways Lululemon offers a superior product.
  • Technical fabrics that are quality constructed resulting in a product that doesn't fade, bag, shrink, or unravel and feel great against the skin.
  • Designed for real women with a flattering fit - 'built-in' bras that really work, even on D-cup ladies, bra cups with pockets for cookies to add more coverage or enhance your bust line, waistbands with color block bands that not only look great but act like Spanx, heavier weight Luon camoflages cottage cheese areas, figure enhancing seaming
  • Designed for active people - fabrics that move with you, breathe, wick, have mesh venting in the right places, flat seams relocated to nontraditional positions to lessen irritation, have great little features: built-in ipod/gym pass pockets, earbud cord tunnels, ponytail holes in caps, gym bags with blackberry and shoe pockets, etc.
  • Great designs and colors - trendy but not flashy (talking to you Bebe sport), not dowdy (Lucy, Atheta, Danskin), offers a lot more variety than different colored racerbacks and tanks (Nike, Addidas, Puma, Under Armour)
1 - Technical Fabrics Lululemon's signature fabric is Luon. It has a matte appearance and cottony feel. It is one of the heavier weight fabrics that I have come across in workout pants. It is wicking, quick drying, and has a 4-way stretch. Because Luon is heavier weight, it is able to camouflage imperfections such as cottage cheese thighs much better than other products. Lucy has a similar product known as Lucy Lux. However, Lucy Lux is not nearly as quick dry or wicking a Luon as I discovered when I hang dry my Lucy and Lululemon pants. The Lululemon pants always dry faster.

Luon also doesn't bag after wearing. My Lucy, Danskin, and Addidas stretch pants all bag in the knees after one wearing.

Luon doesn't fade or shrink with washing. I can't say this for my other workout wear. I've had Nike, Danskin, and Addidas all shrink, fade, and get scratchy on me.

2 - Quality Construction Lululemon uses flat seams on all its products. It also seams everything very thoroughly. I've had several Lucy pieces of mine unravel or have stitching start to come out. For a company that prices its products nearly the same as Lululemon this is unacceptable. The same goes for Athleta. I bought a top with a built in underwire that poked through - ouch.

3 - Built for Real Women who Move One thing that sets Lululemon apart from every other athletic wear brand I have tried is that is designed for women. The built in bras in their tank tops really work - they hold you in place and are not just an additional layer of fabric with a piece of elastic that is too loose to hold you up at all. Most of Lululemon's newest tops come with bra cup pockets to insert "cookies" that provide more coverage (and enhance your bust). I think a lot of women like the cookies to cover their headlights. Sometimes the gym/studio is chilly but we don't need everyone to know it!

Lululemon tops also have great little details - ipod/gym pass pockets in pants and tops, ipod earbud tunnels built into jackets, pony tail hole in running caps.

Lots of their tops are cut long and are designed to stay in place when doing inverted yoga moves (or don't show your belly when weight lifting). The pant seams are moved from the side of the leg so that it doesn't dig into your leg during side-lying yoga moves. The inner thigh seam is also often offset so if you have 'pillowy' thighs your thighs just glide right by each other friction free when doing cardio.

Lululemon's pants are the best around for making the most of what you have, even if you have junk in the trunk or cottage cheese on your thighs. The materials, cut, and construction all work together to make your backside look great. Lululemon is obviously a company that really listens to what women want in their athletic wear and puts money into research and design.

I am an admitted Lululemon addict but it is not because it is trendy. The reason that Lululemon has a cult following is that Lululemon is unique in offering athletic wear that has both fashion and function. I sincerely hope Lululemon keeps making great workout wear for years to come.
